Warlock minion
Warlock minions are summonable combat pets for a warlock. All minions are considered members of the "demon" creature type.
Permanent warlock minions
Warlocks can summon a minion to accompany them as long as they're alive. Summoning a minion while one is already active will afflict the current pet with Summoning Disorientation, stunning them until the new minion has been summoned. All other minions besides the ones in this table function as guardian pets, and do not replace summoned demons.
Warlocks can massively decrease the summoning time of these minions by using [Fel Domination].

Minion abilities
- The Imp's is the only permanent ranged minion a warlock can command, dealing damage alongside the caster with
[Firebolt]. The Imp is very fragile and will die quickly if attacked. Other Imp abilities:
[Singe Magic],
[Flee].
- This entity is an excellent tank, and is able to keep attention of the warlock's enemies with
[Suffering] and
[Threatening Presence], and increase its resilience with
[Shadow Bulwark]. The voidwalker is a great choice for leveling characters, who can pull many mobs and continue to cast spells without being threatened by enemies.
- The Sayaad is replete with spells that deal damage and mesmerize the enemy in different ways. Their first ability,
[Lash of Pain], is a direct-damage, low-mana cast that deals shadow damage to their target. Other spells include
[Seduction], which charms a target for 15 seconds, causing them to walk towards the Sayaad. The Sayaad also has a self-only
[Lesser Invisibility] spell.
- The Felhunter is an anti-caster minion (creatures of their type are also known as Mage Hunters.), They have an interrupt,
[Spell Lock], and can remove buffs from enemies with
[Devour Magic]. Their melee attack is
[Shadow Bite].
Minion scaling
As a warlock improves their stats, their minion also improves.
- Minions inherit their masters' stats as follows:
Master's stat | Inheritance |
---|---|
Stamina | 75% (erroneously reported as ~1/3 in the tooltip) |
Intellect | 30% |
Armor | 35% |
Resistances | 40% |
Spell damage (highest bonus) | 15% (as spell damage) 57% (as attack power) |
Spell critical strike chance | n/a |
Spell penetration | 100%[1] |
Resilience | 40%[1] |
Spell hit | Spell hit, physical hit, expertise, being capped will cap your minion for all three stats, see below for details |
- Minions' offensive spells generally gain bonus damage equal to 100% of the minions' spell power, and minions gain 1 auto-attack DPS per 14 attack power like player characters.
- The scaling formulas for hit are not yet available, however the patch 3.2.0 notes state that "If a player is at their appropriate spell hit chance or hit chance maximum, their pet will be at the maximum for spell hit chance, hit chance, and expertise. If they are below the maximum, their pet will be proportionately below those maximums.".[1]
- Minions gain less health and mana from stamina and intellect than player characters. Minions only gain 1 mana per point of base intellect, and do not gain any health from their base stamina. Different minions gain different amounts of health per point of bonus stamina, and different amounts of mana per point of bonus intellect:
Minion | Health per bonus stamina | Mana per bonus intellect |
---|---|---|
Imp | ~8.4 | ~4.9 |
Voidwalker | ~11.0 | ~11.5 |
Sayaad | ~9.1 | ~11.5 |
Felhunter | ~9.5 | ~11.5 |
Felguard | ~11.0 | ~11.5 |
Sayaad options
In April 2011, in response to a forum thread asking for the option to have an incubus minion and not just a succubus, Community Manager Zarhym wrote:
WTB Incubus. No, not the terrible band. | 2011-04-14 00:00 | Zarhym
This was brought up again by warlock class designer Xelnath later that the same year.

The Incubus was finally implemented in patch 9.2.0 a decade later. The demon's appearance is now customizable at the barber shop.
Original Grimoire of Supremacy talent
Added in Mists of Pandaria, level 75 warlocks could choose the talent [Grimoire of Supremacy], which replaced their demonic minions with more powerful ones. Those more powerful minions dealt 20% more damage and wielded more powerful abilities.
- Imp: Replaced with the Fel Imp.
- Voidwalker: Replaced with the Voidlord.
- Succubus: Replaced with the Shivarra.
- Felhunter: Replaced with the Observer.
- Felguard: Replaced with the Wrathguard.
- Doomguard: Replaced with the Terrorguard.
- Infernal: Replaced with the Abyssal.
Notes
- Each minion has its own randomly generated name.
- New names for minions can be randomly generated by visiting a demon trainer, found near warlock trainers. For 50
, demon trainers will dispose of your chosen minion, allowing you to summon a new one, with a freshly generated name.
- Minions' names are generated either upon the creation of the warlock, or upon the first summoning of the minion, and are not determined by character name, race or gender. Deleting and re-creating an identical warlock will lead to new minion names, and is a cheap way for new warlocks to change the name of their Imp should they particularly dislike it.
Patch changes
Hotfix (2016-07-21): Fixed a bug affecting the health of Warlock pets.
