Spell Lock is a warlock Felhunter ability granted by [Command Demon]. When used while the target is in the process of casting a spell, the target will be unable to cast a spell from the same school of magic for 6 seconds. This is an instant-cast ability with a 24-second cooldown, and is learned automatically by the Felhunter at level 50.

Tips and tactics

Use of this skill will usually force an NPC caster to enter melee combat, where they are at a considerable disadvantage.

This is an excellent tool against any caster class, and is particularly useful for finishing-off healers, especially when combined with other abilities such as [Fear] and [Death Coil] to provide a lengthy period of silence.

Patch changes

Patch 10.1.0 (2023-05-02): Interrupt duration decreased to 5 seconds (was 6 seconds).
Hotfix (2018-07-20): Can no longer be cast without a target.
Hotfix (2015-07-21): Felhunter should now correctly require line-of-sight with its target to use the Spell Lock ability. Previously, it was incorrectly using line-of-sight with the Warlock instead.
Hotfix (2015-04-28): Felhunter's Spell Lock ability and the version of Spell Lock obtained through [Grimoire of Sacrifice] should now correctly share a cooldown with each other.
Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14): Now only interrupts spell casting and no longer Silences the enemy.
Patch 5.0.4 (2012-08-28): Now granted by [Command Demon] (was learned at level 36).
Hotfix (2011-04-29): Some interrupts were still incorrectly missing targets. Wind Shear, Spell Lock, Counterspell, Mind Freeze, and hunter pet abilities Nether Shock and Serenity Dust should no longer miss.
Patch 3.0.8 (2009-01-20): All Silence spells now have diminishing returns. This includes Spell Lock.
Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): Global cooldown removed.
Patch 2.1.0 (2007-05-22): Duration reduced to 5 seconds (rank 1) and 6 seconds (rank 2), and cooldown reduced to 24 seconds.
Patch 1.7.0 (2005-09-13): In addition to interrupting spellcasting, it will now silence the target for a short duration.
