K3 is an independent goblin town located at the southern base of the Storm Peaks on the continent of Northrend. It was founded by a group of goblins who sought to acquire titan machines scattered throughout the region. The residents of K3 have had to contend with various threats, such as the Savage Hill tribe, the Snowblind snobolds, the Garm herd, and the Hyldnir.

History

K3 was founded by a group of goblins who came to the Storm Peaks to get their share of the titan machines scattered around the mountains. However, progress on that goal had been somewhat minimal given the constant threat from the nearby gnolls, snobolds, and magnataurs. They were also having problems keeping fliers in the air without their motors freezing.[1] Thus they sent Rin Duoctane as an ambassador to Dalaran to recruit Alliance and Horde adventurers and have them come and aid K3.[2][3]

Garm's Bane

Rin sent adventurers to meet with Jeer Sparksocket in K3, who had been asked by Ricket to put together some stronger land mines, and who in turn asked them to collect  [Charred Wreckage] from Ricket's Folly as he was running low on parts. Ricket's Folly were the remains of a rocket sled that had exploded while Ricket was fueling it due to Jeer having designed it so the nozzle was right over the exhaust. Dim Flathoof, one of Jeer's assistants, was stuck there fighting off gnolls while trying to collect the parts.[4] Next, Jeer had the adventurers retrieve his tools, which he had forgotten in the middle of the Sparksocket Minefield. Janks, Jeer's other assistants, could be found at the center of the minefield, having been stuck there after Jeer forgot to tell him the safe path through the minefield.[5] After completion, the  [Improved Land Mines] were delivered to Ricket[6] who asked adventurers to use the land mines at Garm's Bane to fend off the snobold and magnataur attackers from Garm.[7]

Ricket also had adventurers deal with the Savage Hill tribe of gnolls, who had been stealing parts from K3, by killing their leader Gnarlhide.[8] Furthermore, because K3 was running out of food, she had them take  [Dried Gnoll Rations] from the Savage Hill camp in the Snowblind Hills.[9] Ricket found the gnoll rations less than edible, however, and so concocted another plan. She had the adventurers grab an  [U.D.E.D.] from Tore Rumblewrench's explosive dispenser north of town, use it to blow up a mammoth, and retrieve the scattered meat chunks.[10] While there, Tore needed help setting up a mining operation in the Crystalweb Cavern. To this goal, she had adventurers slay some of the crystalweb spiders that resided within[11] and retrieve a handful of  [Impure Saronite Ore] to calibrate her machines for processing. She had previously sent miners to do the job but they had been captured by the snobolds.[12] While inside the cave, the adventurers were able to rescue an injured miner and escort them back to safety.[13]

Back at K3, Ricket informed the adventurers that there was a sapper squad ready for a full-scale assault on Garm. But before that, the adventurer had to go into the backline and activate a teleporter the goblins had set up there.[14] Once the teleporter was active, the adventurers, backed by the goblin sapper team led by Gino, started their assault killing many of the magnataur and snobolds inside Garm.[15] Gino also had the adventurers set up explosives around the cave and bait the leader of the Garm herd, Tormar Frostgut, so when the cave was brought down he would be killed as well.[16] After the successful assault, the adventurers returned to K3, where Ricket told them that while she thought it was unlikely K3 could get a good foothold further into the Storm Peaks because of the many more threats that resided further north, she could at least provide them with a one-way trip there using the D16 Propelled Delivery Device.[17]

Another resident of K3, Gretchen Fizzlespark, wanted adventurers to go to Sifreldar Village and rescue the goblin men who were being kept as prisoners there. Gretchen and the others had been in the middle of an expedition into the mountains to set up a transmission tower when they were attacked by the Hyldnir. These frost vrykul women took all the men but left the women go.[18] The Hyldnir had also taken all of their equipment, and so Gretchen also asked the adventurers to bring back whatever equipment they could find.[19] The adventurers managed to rescue all the captured goblin men except for one, Gretchen's brother Zeev Fizzlespark who couldn't be found. She asked them to go back, find and rescue Zeev,[20] which the adventurers, with the help of Lok'lira the Crone, eventually managed to do, rescuing him from being killed by Agnetta Tyrsdottar.[21]

Some time later, it would turn out that the magnataur cave hadn't completely collapsed and that there were still quite a few left who had renewed their assault on K3. Thus Ricket asked adventurers once more to take the land mines made by Jeer and use them to defend the town.[22]

During the raid on Ulduar, goblins from K3, Demolisher Engineer Blastwrench and his team, helped build the demolishers used in the initial assault on the titan facility.[23]

Speculation

Questionmark-medium.png
This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

While not explicitly stated, judging from the way she interacts with the other town residents, Ricket might be the leader of K3, or at least was during the War against the Lich King, as she has since appeared in various other locations.

Inspiration

K3 may be inspired by the mountains in the Karakoram mountain range which includes mountains originally named K1 to K5. K2 is the second-highest mountain on Earth after Mount Everest.

Also a possible reference to "K-3" a mining planet in the movie "Serenity" created by Joss Whedon.

Many of the goblin defenses are reminiscent of the game Team Fortress 2 by Valve. These include sentry guns, demolition bombs, sappers (although in this case they are people and not devices), and teleporters.
