The Wyrmrest Accord is an alliance of four dragonflights — the red, bronze, green, blue, and once the black flight — created to oppose Malygos's crusade against magic users in the Nexus War. After Deathwing's defeat, the Aspects decided to officially dissolve the Accord, however, Kalecgos opposed this and managed to convince them to maintain the Accord and continue protecting Azeroth together.
Years later, the Valdrakken Accord was founded to represent the reunification of all five primary flights, as well as some minor flights, upon their home of the Dragon Isles. A spiritual successor to the Wyrmrest Accord, it takes its name from the mighty draconic city of Valdrakken, where the Dragon Aspects lead their people from the Seat of the Aspects.
History
The Nexus War
At the request of Korialstrasz,[2] the Wyrmrest Accord was founded by Dragonqueen Alexstrasza following Malygos's declaration of war upon all mortal spellcasters.[3] After the dragonflights' delegation to Malygos was met with hostility,[4] she gathered together representatives from the other three dragonflights, both to oppose the blue dragonflight and to defend the Dragonblight against the undead Scourge.[5] The blue dragon Kalecgos eventually journeyed to Wyrmrest Temple as an unofficial ambassador to the blue dragonflight, openly declaring his opposition to the Nexus War.[6]
The Dragonqueen chose Torastrasza as the Majordomo to the Ruling Council,[1] and placed Lord Devrestrasz as the commander of Wyrmrest's defenses,[7] with drakonid of all five dragonflights guarding the temple and the sanctums within the Chamber of Aspects.[8] At the top of Wyrmrest Temple was placed a massive sphere, the Orb of Unity, as a symbol of the dragonflights' alliance.[9]
After the blue dragons had diverted much of the ley lines' energy to the Azure Dragonshrine, they boldly launched attacks against the temple, forcing the Accord to repel their misguided brethren.[10]
When the Scourge assaulted the Ruby Dragonshrine, the ambassadors Lauriel Trueblade and Golluck Rockfist respectively sent Alliance and Horde regiments to help repel the undead.[11][12]
In time, the united forces of the Wyrmrest Accord assaulted the Nexus in Coldarra, where the heroes ultimately killed the Aspect of Magic in the Eye of Eternity.[13]
When the Wyrmrest Accord turned toward the offensive against the Lich King,[14] the black dragonflight attacked the Ruby Sanctum and destroyed it in retaliation. Consequently, the heroes were tasked by Alexstrasza to destroy Halion and his lieutenants Saviana Ragefire, Baltharus the Warborn, and General Zarithrian.[9]
Twilight of the Aspects
With the defeat of both Malygos and the Lich King, the Wyrmrest Accord's activities lessened. Alexstrasza began reaching out to the remaining members of the blue dragonflight in a show of good faith, while the representatives of the black dragonflight mysteriously disappeared. After the Cataclysm, the Wyrmrest Accord began meeting with certain blue dragons, including Malygos's son, Arygos, to urge them to select a new Aspect in order to help restore the shattered world. However, Arygos was still angry about the death of his father, wondering aloud if Alexstrasza would simply kill him, too, if it became convenient.[13]
During one such meeting, Wyrmrest Temple came under attack by the twilight dragonflight who lured the defenders away from the temple, allowing their agents to slip into the sanctums within the Chamber of the Aspects and corrupt all of the eggs within. Their deception was discovered by Alexstrasza's consort, Korialstrasz, who sacrificed himself to destroy the sanctums and all the eggs contained within, heavily damaging Wyrmrest Temple in the process.[15] The dragonqueen was initially unaware of the corruption of the eggs, and as a result, she was consumed with grief over their loss and distraught over the possibility that her love might have betrayed them to the twilight dragonflight. In her grief, Alexstrasza shattered the Orb of Unity, before she fled the temple.[1]
Hour of Twilight
After the heroes recovered the Demon Soul in the past, Deathwing laid siege to Wyrmrest Temple to stop them. Under his command, the Twilight's Hammer, along with the black and twilight flights, fought against the forces of the Wyrmrest Accord led by Lord Devrestrasz. Even N'Zoth sent its own minions to aid the assault in the form of the nightmarish n'raqi, while members of the red, blue, green, and bronze dragonflights gathered at Wyrmrest to fight for control of the area.[16]
During the battle, Tyrygosa warned the heroes and Wyrmrest defenders they had to hurry to defeat the colossus Morchok who was pounding at the foundations of the spire, trying to level it. She later reported that maw creatures were erupting from the nearby earth, and ordered their destruction, along with the faceless generals Warlord Zon'ozz and Yor'sahj the Unsleeping.[17]
Dawn of the Aspects
Even though the Aspects had worked together to defeat Deathwing, they didn't want to continue with the Wyrmrest Accord, despite Kalecgos trying to show them the importance of this draconic alliance. When they decided to officially dissolve the Accord at their next meeting, Kalec summoned them sooner and used the Spark of Tyr to remind them of the time when they had been merely proto-dragons, as well as their battle against Galakrond together. This attempt was strongly criticized by the former Aspects, but it managed to give them the will to continue to protect Azeroth by fighting together, which avoided the official dissolution of the Accord.[18]
