Title | Amani Dragonhawk Spirit[1] |
Gender | Female |
Race(s) | Loa (dragonhawk) (Beast) |
Location | Various |
Status | Active |
Jan'alai is the dragonhawk loa of the Amani trolls. The Amani trolls hold dragonhawks in high regard due to the loa Jan'alai, who shares their appearance.[2]
History
The Burning Crusade
By the time of the invasion of Outland, Jan'alai's spirit was chained in Zul'Aman by Zul'jin while Hex Lord Malacrass stole her essence, imbuing it into one of the Amani's deadliest rogues.[3] She was later freed when the chieftain troll was killed by the adventurers.
Wrath of the Lich King
During the war against the Lich King, Jan'alai appeared with the other Amani gods in Zul'Drak, directing the adventurer to the leopard goddess, Har'koa.[4] The Amani gods also tasked the adventurer to defeat the guardians at the Altar of Quetz'lun and kill the Prophet of Akali.[5]
Cataclysm
Following the Cataclysm, Jan'alai appeared in Zul'Aman where her spirit was chained by Daakara. She was later freed when Daakara was killed.
Battle for Azeroth
A Disciple of Jan'alai is present in Tal'aman, the Amani tribe's enclave in Zuldazar.

In Hearthstone
In the Hearthstone expansion Rastakhan's Rumble, Jan'alai serves as the patron of Jan'alai's Dragonhawks, a fire-obsessed team of troll mages, and personally appears as a legendary mage card. Her flavor text reads: "You mess with the Bird, you get the Firelord."
- on the Spirit of the Dragonhawk card.
Notes
- As the Dungeon Journal says that this was initially the name of the troll, either the spirit took the name of its host in Zul'Drak, or the host was named after the loa to start with. The spirits near the final boss of Zul'Aman are nameless, possibly hinting that they did not initially have names.
- However, the act of a loa adopting its hosts' name would be fairly odd, as the Amani loa would have been the only ones in history to have done so, in that case, as all other loa have their own names that they are referred to by other loa, trolls, and their worshippers.
