Lukou is a loa in the form of a podling worshiped by the Darkspear tribe of trolls. Mainly worshiped by their witch doctors and priests, she helps the shadow hunters too. Some trolls believe that Lukou also gifted the troll race the ability to regenerate.[1] Her shrine is located in Northern Stranglethorn, in a cave now occupied by ogres.[1]
Lukou and her brother never liked blood sacrifice.[3]
History
Long ago, Bwonsamdi, Lukou, and Kevo ya Siti were the central figures of worship in the Darkspear tribe. Ancient Lukou rituals were done deep in a cave near where Bambala now stands.[1]
However, when conflicts between the tribes started to erupt with new force, the Darkspear tribe decided to leave their ancestral home to find a new land to call home. Their loa have been left behind and forgotten. Kevo ya Siti and Lukou fought, and the former, whom Lukou considered a brother left in anger to push back on the dark loa that corrupted many trolls, like Mueh'zala and Hakkar. Lukou on the other hand believed that her worshipers would return, and so she waited near her shrine. But instead of trolls, ogres came. They imprisoned Lukou, tormented her and siphoned her powers for themselves.[4][5]
Dragonflight
After Bwonsamdi revealed that members of the Darkspear tribe had taken to worshiping Mueh'zala, Rokhan decided that they needed to balance the Darkspear by getting their old loa back. However, when Witch Doctor Tzadah proved unable to contact them, Rokhan decided that they needed to seek them out.[6] To that end, Bwonsamdi helped them call upon Jani, who brought Rokhan and the champion to Zul'Gurub.[3] There they managed to get the help of Kevo ya Siti to find his sister, Lukou whose presence was felt near Bambala.[2]
After questioning the citizens of Bambala it was discovered that Lukou was inside the Mosh'Ogg Ogre Mound, her altar destroyed and power siphoned by the ogres.[7] The mortals fixed Lukou's altar and killed those who harmed her, which made her summoning possible, but at first she thought those who summoned her ther the ones responsible for her suffering, a misunderstanding that was cleared up thanks to Kevo.[4]
The old loa who reunited with their followers came to the new home of the Darkspear and there they prepared for a ritual, but they were betrayed by Tzadah who was in fact the chosen of Mueh'zala.[8] To battle the traitor and her undead minions Lukou helped the champion to get rid of the evil circles that were eating the life of living things around the isle to free Mueh'zhala.[9] Mueh'zhala's influence over the Darkspear severed, Lukou noted that over the years de Darkspear lost a home, good friends, and thought they lost the loa. Instead of shrinking, they kept growing. Which is the way of Lukou. After the battle, Rokhan mused that it took only a few frightened trolls turning to Mueh'zala to be putting them all at risk. This prompted Kevo ya Siti, Lukou, and Jani to declare that they knew the true worth of the Darkspear.[10]

Lukou is the Loa of healing and respite, and she grants the ability to heal allies. With a word, the shadow hunter invokes healing with a wave of soothing light or can invoke a scintillating rain of positive energy, which drops from the sky to heal all living allies it touches. Her power has no effect against undead in the area- Lukou grants the capacity to heal, but she has no power over the restless dead.[11][12]
Trivia
- Patch 10.1.7 and 10.2.5 have unused entries of Lukou before she was introduced in 10.2.7.
- Years before appearing in Dragonflight, Lukou was mentioned in Warlords of Draenor in Shadow Hunter Ty'jin's follower ability called Blessing of Lukou. It grants a chance to recover the vitality of an expired troop, and uses a healing spell icon, referencing Lukou's non-canon RPG information described above.
- Lukou is most likely inspired by Loco, a (male) loa associated with plants and healing in Haitian Vodou.
