Jotun is a titanic watcher who walks along the Path of the Titans in the Dragonblight. He was once an ally of Keeper Tyr, but was cursed by Loken.
Biography
Ancient history
Jotun was Keeper Tyr's dearest friend for many ages.[2] After Tyr's hand was devoured by Galakrond, he and Jotun worked together to mine a vein of silver deep within Azeroth, which Jotun then used to forge a prosthetic silver hand for the keeper. At Tyr's request, Jotun also added the keeper's new symbol onto his warhammer, which was thereafter called the Silver Hand.[3]
Jotun did not accompany Tyr and his followers when they fled south with the stolen Discs of Norgannon. Instead, inspired by the keeper's ideals of personal sacrifice, the giant stayed behind to distract Loken and help mask his allies' escape. Loken captured Jotun and placed a curse on his mind, forcing him to search the lands surrounding Ulduar (modern-day Northrend) and destroy Tyr, anything that symbolized him, and anyone who followed his ideals. As his first act, Jotun shattered the anvil he had used to craft Tyr's silver hand and reshape his hammer.[3] The curse will not let him die.[2]
Legion
During the third invasion of the Burning Legion, Galford, a member of the Tyr's Guard carrying a Spark of Tyr, traveled to Northrend to seek aid in retrieving the Silver Hand from Tyr's Fall. The Spark led Galford to Jotun on the Path of the Titans, but did not warn him about the watcher's curse. Jotun killed Galford and took the Spark. Lanigosa and a paladin adventurer tracked Galford down and attacked Jotun to regain the Spark. The pain briefly freed Jotun's mind from Loken's curse, allowing him to hand over the Spark to the paladin. He told them to flee before he fell into madness again, and to keep the memory of his friend Tyr alive.[2]
Exploring Azeroth
After the war against the Jailer, the three Bronzebeard brothers visited the Path of the Titans and searched for Jotun, as Magni wanted to meet him, but the watcher was nowhere to be found. Magni wondered if Loken's defeat had perhaps broken Jotun's curse, and Brann suggested that they might find him in the Storm Peaks. However, Jotun was not in the Storm Peaks either, and Keeper Thorim at the Temple of Storms told the Bronzebeards that he didn't know what had happened to the watcher.[1]

- Jotun patrols from the border with Crystalsong Forest[62.7, 12.3] to just north of Wyrmrest Temple.[59.8, 43.15] When he gets to the broken section of the Path near the Crystal Vice, he leaps over the small chasm to the other side.
- Though he can be killed, he drops nothing of note.
- Jotun was introduced in Wrath of the Lich King without any backstory or in-game purpose. A 2010 issue of World of Warcraft: The Magazine describes him simply as a titanic mystery of Northrend.[4] His backstory was revealed in Legion.
- Jotun appears as a legendary demon hunter minion in the TITANS expansion for Hearthstone. This version of Jotun is depicted as a servant of the titan Argus, with an affinity for working with argunite, and is depicted as being made of green stone rather than gray. His flavor text reads: "He doesn't look like a turtle?"
- His name is a reference to the jötnar (singular jötunn), a race of beings in Norse mythology.
- Yotnar, another watcher, is named after the plural form of the word.
