Faldir's Cove is a small natural harbor on the southern shores of Arathi Highlands, near Stromgarde Keep and the Drowned Reef.

The cove is named after Faldir, apparently marking the spot where he and his followers began their voyage across the sea to create the kingdom of Stormwind.

History

World of Warcraft

The Harbinger harbored at Faldir's Cove.

An expedition of Blackwater Raiders, led by Captain Steelgut and Captain O'Breen, was sent to this region in search of an elven treasure.[1] Unfortunately, due to a mysterious tide caused by the naga guarding the sunken ruins, two of the three ships sank.[2] Only the Harbinger landed safely; however, its crew was trapped in the bay until some adventurers agreed to fight the naga and retrieve the navigation logs from the sunken ships.[3][4]

A device made by two gnomish engineers, Doctor Draxlegauge and Professor Phizzlethorpe, detected elven gems calcified within the stones of the Drowned Reef.[5][6]

By the time of the Cataclysm, the mountain near the cove was excavated to make it easier to locate, also making a well-marked path carved into the hills just east of Stromgarde Keep.

By the time of the Fourth War, the Blackwater Raiders already left the cove. After the Battle for Stromgarde erupted between the Alliance and the Horde, Faldir's Cove was taken by the Alliance forces and returning citizens of Stromgarde. It remained in their control, even if Stromgarde was lost during the conflict, and also after the end of the conflict.

Following the Fourth War, Turalyon and Alleria Windrunner came to Faldir's Cove with their soldiers after they learned from Horde refugees that one of Sylvanas's dark rangers, named Visrynn, traveled here in the previous days.[7] There, they discovered a man with a dagger that would be more fitting in a Forsaken scabbard, and when the smuggler refused to answer their questions, Turalyon shackled him with the Light while Alleria invaded his mind with Void. The man was thus forced to reveal that Visrynn sold him a dagger to acquire a boat, and then used it to rendezvous with Nathanos Blightcaller in Nazmir within Zandalar. During this interrogation, Jaina Proudmoore teleported to the cove, having been sent by King Anduin Wrynn to check on the pair for an update, and was horrified by their tactics. After a tense exchange between the Alliance leaders, Jaina returned to Stormwind City for her, while Turalyon and Alleria continued the hunt for the Banshee Queen.[8]

In the RPG

A hidden port behind Stromgarde in the Arathi coast still exists, accessible through a series of hidden caves. It used to allow for secure trade between the north and the south. As far down as Booty Bay, in fact.[9]

Notes

  • The old quests here are available for both factions, they give Booty Bay reputation and decrease your reputation with Bloodsail Buccaneers.
  • In World of Warcraft: Classic the cove can be reached through a short tunnel southeast of Stromgarde Keep's walls at [21, 75]. You can either start at the east end of the Stromgarde walls at about [30, 67], and walk mostly west to the tunnel entrance; or come from the west side of Stromgarde, though that route is substantially more difficult. If you arrive at Faldir's Cove via some other route, the entrance to the tunnel at [22, 80] returns you to the mainland.
  • There were two planned subzones around this area, the Blackwater Shipwrecks and O'Breen's Camp, that were removed in the beta of World of Warcraft.
