Battlefield: Barrens
The subject of this article or section is part of Battlefield: Barrens, a world event that preceded the Siege of Orgrimmar during patch 5.3.0.

The Darkspear Rebellion was an open rebellion against Garrosh Hellscream declared by Vol'jin. After liberating the Echo Isles from Garrosh's Kor'kron, capturing Razor Hill, and cutting off the roads to the Northern Barrens, Vol'jin allied with the Alliance to lay siege to Orgrimmar itself to end Garrosh's reign. After Garrosh was deposed, the rebellion was reorganized into a new Horde with Vol'jin as Warchief, which led him to take up residence in Orgrimmar.

The rebellion took place during Battlefield: Barrens, a world event that lasted the length of Patch 5.3.0.

Allies

Vol'jin's dialogue during the event indicates that most of the non-orc Horde is supportive of the Darkspear Rebellion. Lor'themar Theron in particular is backing Vol'jin's efforts, and the chieftain vaguely mentions Sylvanas Windrunner needing no excuse to depose Garrosh. However, with his eastern allies across the sea (and the former still finishing up on the Isle of Thunder), Vol'jin is forced to collaborate his initial push against Garrosh with only the Western Horde. Through the quest chain, the tauren also ostensibly pledge themselves to the cause through Baine Bloodhoof, though their forces are stretched thin with many of their people still in Orgrimmar. After the liberation of Razor Hill, a number of neighboring orcs also denounce Garrosh as Warchief and lend aid to the rebellion. The Gob Squad is also explicitly reporting to Vol'jin, though where this leaves Trade Prince Gallywix and the bulk of the Bilgewater Cartel is unclear.

Horde player characters of all races are instructed to take part in the rebellion. If the player is an orc, Vol'jin's standard greetings dialogue will change somewhat, questioning whether Garrosh's self-destructive Horde (of which the player is reaping no benefits from, unlike the "fat and happy" Kor'kron) is something the orc player sees value in at this point.

Members of the Alliance are also instructed to lend aid to the burgeoning rebellion, to ensure Garrosh's forces (themselves anticipating and preparing for an Alliance invasion) do not gain a momentum over the outnumbered trolls. SI:7 tasks the player character to speak on behalf of the Alliance and to represent its interests to Vol'jin, whose trust the player earns at the culmination of the quest chain.

    • It is not displayed in the reputation pane.
  • Darkspear Rebellion was only available during Patch 5.3.0.[1]
  • The event used the traditional RTS resources as its currencies: food was represented by the  [Kor'kron Meat], lumber by the  [Kor'kron Lumber], and oil by the  [Kor'kron Oil]. The only exception is how gold was represented by  [Kor'kron Stone].
