Yeti
- For the mob, see Wendigo (mob).

Yetis, also known as wendigo (sometimes pluralized as wendigos),[1][2][3] are large, furry humanoid animals indigenous to Northrend,[4] but they can also be found in the mountains of Dun Morogh, on Pandaria, and on Kul Tiras. Cannibalistic, savage, and exceedingly voracious, they either are solitary by nature and rarely live amongst others of their kind, or live in tribes.[5] Usually living in or near caves, they are highly territorial and do not take kindly to intruders stumbling into their hunting grounds.[4] In colder regions they can use ice breath. Their favorite food is shark meat.[6]
Although generally regarded as untamed beasts, yetis are actually quite intelligent. Those in Feralas, notably Feral Scar, use strategy in combat, name each other, and even believe in an afterlife called the "afterlands",[5] and eventually forged an alliance with the Woodpaw clan of gnolls, with the help of Aramar Thorne and his crew.[7] Toejam the Terrible was revealed to be a gentle soul willing to help children.[8]
A sasquatch appears to be a type of creature similar to a yeti. Only one, named Bigfist, has been seen so far, but it's said to be the biggest sasquatch ever seen in Feralas.[9]
Background

The wendigo of Northrend are believed by many to be the primordial cousins of the southern variety that dwell in Dun Morogh.[10] They differ in appearance from their southern cousins, being significantly larger with more ape-like builds and curved horns. Though rarely seen, the existence of the northern wendigo is evidenced by the fierce, primal roars that echo across Northrend's mist-shrouded peaks. Dwelling in bone-littered caves and venturing out only to hunt, they are ferocious and aggressively defend their lairs, food supply, and young from any perceived threat. Adventurers who do not wish to be added to the wendigo's bone-mounds would be wise to run at the sound of their savage bellows.[10]
Wendigo, along with ice trolls, were among the races enslaved by the newly created Lich King shortly after the Frozen Throne crashed into the Icecrown glacier.[4][11] After the end of the Second War, a group of dead wendigos was found by Korialstrasz in the Nexus.[3]
Wrath of the Lich King
The yetis of Northrend seem to be far more intelligent than those of the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, with the capability of complex speech and understanding. The taunka have been hunting the giant yetis of the Howling Fjord for generations. Traditionally, the hunt includes the usage of a loud horn carved from a ram horn whose call allegedly mimics the mating call of the female yeti.[12]
Kartak the Abominable is a yeti-like being worshiped by the Frenzyheart Tribe of wolvar, who grants his power to those he deems worthy.[13]
Mists of Pandaria
During the Alliance-Horde war, the True Horde captured and starved several yetis, using them as weapons during the Siege of Orgrimmar.
Warlords of Draenor
One of the alternate Draenor's oldest stories is the legend of Grumpus and his Grumpling minions. A mean-spirited brute that would come in the night, in the dead of winter, and kidnap children that misbehaved. Back at his lair, he would present them with awful toys, and use their tears to spawn his minions.[14] It's possible that these creatures simply use the yeti model and aren't actually meant to be yetis. This might be related to the original concept of blood oxen.
Battle for Azeroth
Hostile yetis congregated in the Waning Glacier of Tiragarde Sound and among the snowy foothills of Drustvar. They were noted as being hostile to travelers and dangerous to neighboring eco-systems.[15] Those of the glacier were also explained to rapidly breed, to such an extent that their numbers threaten the gryphon taming camps below.
The Craghorn Chasm-Leaper yetis can be found on the Dread Chain island, where they have adapted to island life by learning to catch seagulls swooping through crags and fissures.[16]

In Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne, wendigos appeared as white-furred humanoid creeps. Some of them showed signs of intelligence, with the ability to use shaman- or druid-like abilities.[17] Sasquatch also appeared as brown-furred humanoid creeps. Some of them showed signs of intelligence, with the ability to use shaman- or druid-like abilities.
In the Digging up the Dead campaign mission Arthas can come upon a "secret society of Sasquatch".

Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans

In the canceled Warcraft Adventures, wendigo were shown to live around the Frostwolf Settlement area. One of them had killed the wolf mount of Nazgrel, and Thrall saved the orc by scaring the beast away with fire. The raider turned out ungrateful about this help, for the wendigo was initially the target of his hunt.
In the RPG
- Wendigo

The indigenous wendigo of Northrend are exceedingly voracious creatures. Cannibalistic and savage, these fur-covered humanoids are very territorial and do not take kindly to intruders stumbling into their hunting grounds. They take even less kindly to those who enter their lands intentionally. This tall, muscular humanoid is covered in shaggy fur. Its feet and clawed hands are huge, and a pair of deadly horns crowns its head. The hulking humanoid stand 10 feet tall. It looks vaguely ogre-like but is covered in a fury white pelt. Sharp claws extend from its large hand and its mouth stretches in a ravenous grin as it shambles forward. Wendigo are fierce predators that are fond of human and orc flesh. Solitary by nature, they seldom live among others of their kind. The only exception is when offspring must be reared, which the parents do as a family. Wendigo typically give birth to two young per litter. The parents drive off the young once they reach maturity, then go their own separate ways as well. (A wendigo is considered fully mature when it reaches nine years). Otherwise, an encounter between two wendigo always ends in the death of one, even during times of mating. Each wendigo controls miles of territory. It is not unusual for one to spend weeks hunting a single meal.[18][19]
They are a type of "Large Monstrous Humanoid". An adult wendigo stands well over 7 feet tall and weighs about 1,200 pounds. They live solitary, in pairs, or in tribes (12–36). Their alignment is lways neutral.[19] Wendigo often range in levels of 5-7 and are often hunted en masse in central Dun Morogh. Wendigo can be skinned at apprentice level.
Wendigo are bestial, cave-dwelling humanoids. Barely intelligent, these creatures prefer to remain hidden when travelers pass close to their territory. A wendigo’s behavior turns aggressive, however, if a visitor overstays his welcome or threatens the yeti’s family. It is possible for a small tribe of wendigo to go unnoticed by a nearby community for years. The townsfolk may tell tales of beast-men living in the woods, but few residents, if any, see one directly. Wendigo living in close proximity are not necessarily a threat, and rumors say that some adopt and protect small villages, eliminating dangers from the shadows.[19]
A wendigo prefers to avoid combat altogether, but once angered, just about the only way to stop it is to slay the beast.[19] Wendigo attack with their claws in combat. They are so adept with their natural weapons that they can fell several lesser creatures in a single round. Even young wendigo can be quite lethal in combat. They are not suicidal, however, and will break off combat with a superior foe. The wendigo will then stalk the prey, biding its time until the target offers the best time to be dispatched.[20]
- Yeti
Yetis are cousins to wendigos. They live in colder climates, far away from civilized communities. Yeti are far more territorial and aggressive than wendigo, usually attacking intruders on sight. A yeti begins combat with its breath weapon and then closes into melee, attacking fiercely. They are a type of "Large Monstrous Humanoid (Cold)", measuring an average of over 7 ft (213 cm), and weighing about 1,200 lbs (544 kg). They live solitary, in pairs, or in tribes (12–36). Their alignment is always neutral.[21]
- Sasquatch

The species of monstrous humanoid known as sasquatch is a cousin race to the wendigo of Northrend. These massive humanoid stands 9 feet tall. It looks vaguely ogre-like but is covered in a furry, sandy-colored pelt. It has long, sharp claws and a hungry gleam in its eye. They are huge beings of limited intelligence and even less personality. They roam singularly and prefer solitary hunting. Sasquatch are incredibly strong and fiercely territorial. They have sharp claws and are very fond of human and orc flesh. Though they will eagerly kill elves who encroach on their territory, it is well established that sasquatch will not eat elven flesh, instead leaving their night elf victim's corpse where it falls, untouched. (Sasquatch seem to be able to distinguish between night and high elves, perhaps by smell, and have no problem devouring high elf flesh.)
They are a type of "Large Monstrous Humanoid", measuring an average of over 9ft (213 cm). They live solitary, in pairs, or in bands (3-5). Their alignment is always neutral.
Like ogres, sasquatch tend to solve problems by smashing them. Unlike ogres, they tend to avoid other creatures, unless it is to smash or eat them. They prefer forests but will occupy any convenient location that provides them with food, treasure, and things to smash. Fortunately, Sasquatch mate only rarely. In groups, their aggression can be devastating to unprepared heroes. Sasquatch are matriarchal, and as a result, bands of Sasquatch typically represent a mother with her young, often only a single litter. Sasquatch are non-discerning in combat. They tend to use their claws and great strength in melee combat to rend their opponents.[22]
