Emeriss is one of the four Dragons of Nightmare. In Classic, she is a world boss in the original Dragons of Nightmare event.
Background
Dragons of Nightmare
In recent times, Ysera's most trusted lieutenants had been warped by a dark new power within the Emerald Dream, the Emerald Nightmare. These wayward sentinels passed through the Great Trees into Azeroth, intending to spread madness and terror throughout the mortal kingdoms.
The mysterious dark power within the Emerald Dream transformed the once-majestic Emeriss into a rotting, diseased monstrosity.[2] and it is said that she may have suffered the most from the corruption of the Emerald Dream. She suddenly appeared within the Bough Shadow in Ashenvale. Though the dragon's putrid appearance was enough to drive many hardened fighters from the field of battle, her decaying attacks stood unrivaled until the horrors of Naxxramas and Icecrown Citadel. According to veterans of the battle, corpses of those felled by the rot of her infection or the fury of her claws were viciously turned against their allies by becoming hosts for volatile, poisonous mushrooms. Emeriss displayed the true depth of her madness with the spiteful taunt of disease.[1] Emeriss was the most gruesome and appalling of Ysera's estranged green dragons.[2]
Stormrage
As an agent of the Nightmare, Emeriss sought for years to corrupt others of her flight.[1]
During the War Against the Nightmare, Emeriss was one of the major antagonists as a servant of the Nightmare. She and Lethon attacked Eranikus in order to corrupt him, but thanks to Alexstrasza, the corrupted dragons were forced to retreat. When Tyrande Whisperwind, Broll Bearmantle, Lucan Foxblood, and Thura were flying on a green dragon in order to leave the Dream, Emeriss attacked them, though the group was able to get to Azeroth.
Emeriss later returned to battle Tyrande and Malfurion, but Tyrande attempted to remove Emeriss's corruption with the power of Elune. However, the dragon was so far gone that there was nothing left to heal, and she was simply disintegrated. Tyrande remarked that, "...there was nothing left but the corruption... and when I tried to heal that... it left only emptiness..."
Relief did not come in death, however, for Emeriss's tainted essence was still tied to the Nightmare and its master, the Nightmare Lord Xavius.[3]
Legion
When Ysondre was taken by the Emerald Nightmare once again in Val'sharah, the corrupted spirits of her deceased comrades were summoned by Xavius and forced to join her[4] in the Emerald Dreamway, including Emeriss. After the defeat of Xavius, Emeriss's spirit along with the spirits of the other three former Dragons of Nightmare are seen in the restored Emerald Dream.

Notes and trivia
- Emeriss' plagued manifestation shared many similarities to the later corruption of Nythendra.[4]
- Emeriss appears as a legendary card for the hunter class in the The Witchwood expansion for Hearthstone. Her flavor text reads: "Taste your world's corruption! It tastes like chicken."
