Tier 3
Tier 3 is an armor set that was acquired from the original level 60 version of Naxxramas. This was the first nine-piece set that, in addition to the traditional eight armor slots, also included a tier ring. The replacement Tier 7 sets, which drop from the level 80 version of Naxxramas, use the same models with different color palettes.
Acquiring a full eight-piece set awards the [Drop Dead, Gorgeous] feat of strength.
Between Wrath of the Lich King and Mists of Pandaria there was no way for players to acquire new pieces. Patch 5.0.5 added a chance to see pieces of these sets put up on the Black Market Auction House, with an opening bid of 10,000. This was the only way to acquire pieces until patch 10.1.5 added a way to obtain them from the Wrath of the Lich King version of Naxxramas..
Original set
In order to obtain Tier 3 pieces from Naxxramas, players must first earn the [Wards of the Dread Citadel] achievement. Once this is done, they must then craft a
[Makeshift Grappling Hook] from items within Naxxramas. Using the Grappling Hook, find and awaken Zackett Skullsmash with
[Stratholme Holy Water] and complete his
[1-80] Inconvenience Fee quest.
Once the quest is complete, Zackett opens up shop in the center of Naxxramas where he will trade 3x [Death's Bargaining Chip] for a piece of Dented equipment. That dented equipment has a chance of containing a Lamented Crusader's piece, which, when combined with the appropriate cursed reagent (such as
[Cursed Cloth]) from a crafter who already has the
[Drop Dead, Gorgeous] achievement, becomes a Desecrated piece. That desecrated piece can then be turned into the desired tier piece by combining it with 70-280x
[Phylacterweave] and 10x
[Righteous Orb].
A full eight-piece set requires 1,400 Phylacterweave (or 2,800,000!) and 80 Righteous Orbs, plus the Crafting Order cost for the cursed reagents and some incredible luck turning Dented equipment into Lamented Crusader's items.
†Requires [Drop Dead, Gorgeous]
Classic
Prior to Wrath of the Lich King, the items that formed these sets were quest rewards. The quests required, among other things, token drops from bosses in Naxxramas. The only exception were the rings, which dropped directly from Kel'Thuzad.
