Season 34 Season 35 Season 36

Dragonflight Season 2 (or Season 35) is a season for both PvP and PvE that started on 9 May 2023, a week after the release of patch 10.1.0 and will last up to patch 10.2.0.

All non-PvP gear uses the new [Flightstones] systems for item upgrades.

Weekly tasks

Players can complete the following activities each week to earn rewards:

Player vs Player

Arena

Players can earn the following rewards by obtaining  [Gladiator: Dragonflight Season 2] which requires winning 50 games in the 3v3 arena while at Elite rank (2400 rating).

Players can also earn  [Obsidian Gladiator: Dragonflight Season 2] by being in the top 0.1% of the 3v3 arena ladder by the end of the season. It rewards the <Obsidian Gladiator> title which is permanent.

Solo Shuffle

Players can earn the following rewards by obtaining the  [Legend: Dragonflight Season 2] achievement, earned by winning 100 rated Solo Shuffle rounds

Players in the top 0.1% can also earn the  [Obsidian Legend: Dragonflight Season 2] achievement which rewards the permanent title, <Obsidian Legend>.

Rated PvP

The  [Vicious War Snail] can be obtained by winning rated PvP matches while at Combatant rank (1000 rating) or higher; progress is tracked via the Season Rewards bar in the Rated tab of the PvP interface. The current season's mount is earned by filling the progress bar once. A  [Vicious Saddle] is earned for each additional time the bar is filled within the season.

Dungeons

Eight dungeons are in the Mythic+ rotation, featuring four Dragonflight dungeons and four past expansion dungeons.

Mythic+ affixes

Mythic+ saw several changes to the affixes:

Achievements and rewards

The  [Defender of the Timeways] achievement required defeating all bosses in the new Dawn of the Infinite megadungeon on at least Mythic difficulty (Mythic Level 0) or in Mythic+. It rewarded the <of the Infinite> title.

Players can earn the following feats of strength at specific intervals of the Mythic+ Rating:

The following Keystone Hero achievements are possible for the dungeon teleports, requiring a timed level 20 run:

Item upgrading

Introduced in this season, a new universal upgrade system introduces a new way to upgrade items. Trade seasonal [Flightstones] and Shadowflame Crests to upgrade gear from all PvE sources outside of crafting.

Shadowflame Crests

There are four versions of Shadowflame Crests and crest fragments with various sources:

 [Whelpling's Shadowflame Crest] (ilvl 402-411)
  • Acquired from the open world, small treasures, (non-elite) rares
  • Aberrus raid finder (10 per boss, wing bosses drop 15)
  • Mythic+ 2–5 (5 fragments for completing a key, 12 if on time)
 [Drake's Shadowflame Crest] (ilvl 415-424)
  • Open world rare elites, weekly quests, Fyrakk Assaults, Paragon bags
  • Aberrus normal (10 per boss, wing bosses drop 15)
  • Mythic+ 6–10 (5 fragments for completing a key, 12 if on time)
 [Wyrm's Shadowflame Crest] (ilvl 428-437)
  • Aberrus heroic (10 per boss, wing bosses drop 15)
  • Mythic+ 11–15 (5 fragments for completing a key, 12 if on time)
 [Aspect's Shadowflame Crest] (ilvl 441-447)
  • Aberrus mythic (10 per boss, wing bosses drop 15)
  • Mythic+ 16+ (5 fragments for completing a key, 12 if on time)

These sources are not chance-based. That is — if players complete a task they will receive the crest fragments deterministically.

Players can acquire 10 of each crest (actually the equivalent in crest fragments) each week at the start of Season 2. That cap increases week-by-week, so by week six, the cap is at sixteen, which is effectively unlimited, as there are fifteen or sixteen slots of items that are relevant for upgrades. Quest-rewarded crests are both exempt from the cap and will not affect the cap.

Enchanters can use crests to craft an Enchanted Shadowflame Crest, which is used to set the item level range of crafted gear. Said crafted gear will then be upgraded using Recrafting, not Flightstones. For crafting purposes, crests can also be downgraded by speaking with Vaskarn at Loamm (inside the central building)[56.2, 56.2] in Zaralek Cavern cavern and trading them in.

Item Cost Type
 [Whelpling's Shadowflame Crest] 1 Drake's Shadowflame Crest Adventurer/Veteran
 [Drake's Shadowflame Crest] 1 Wyrm's Shadowflame Crest Veteran/Champion
[Wyrm's Shadowflame Crest] 1 Aspect's Shadowflame Crest Hero (up to 441)

Gear sources

There are six gear upgrade tracks in Season 2:

Upgrade tracks
Track Source Base iLvl Upgrade
max iLvl
Difficulty Mythic+ Vault
Explorer Open world/Normal dungeons 376–385 398
Adventurer Heroic/Mythic dungeons 389–398 411
Veteran Raid Finder 2–8 n/a 402–411 424
Champion Normal 9–16 2–7 415–424 437
Hero Heroic 17+ 8–15 428–437 441
Myth Mythic n/a 16+ 441–450 447

Veteran-track gear can also rarely come from open-world content: typically Fyrakk Assaults and weekly wrapper quests (like N [70W] A Worthy Ally: Loamm Niffen and N [70] Fighting is Its Own Reward). The Zaqali Elders world boss will drop gear on the Champion track. The end-of-run chest in Mythic+ will drop gear at the specified track. Completing Mythic+ keys will also add loot to the weekly Great Vault. Complete enough keys of the specified level to be able to select loot on that upgrade track.

Item levels and upgrade costs

Upgradeable gear will only ever be created in the rank 1-4 band of an upgrade track. So, an item level 398 piece that drops will always be Adventurer 4/8, never Explorer 8/8.

Flightstones have no weekly cap, so they can be ground out indefinitely up to the overall holding cap.

To upgrade to the listed item level from one row above, the Flightstone and Shadowflame Crest cost in the higher item level row must be paid. For example, to upgrade from Champion 1 (415) to Champion 2 (418), the cost is 145 Flightstones and 1x  [Drake's Shadowflame Crest]. Upgrades are cumulative, so to upgrade from Champion 1 to Champion 8 would cost 1,115 Flightstones, 3x  [Drake's Shadowflame Crest], and 4x  [Wyrm's Shadowflame Crest].

Should players attempt to upgrade a lower item level piece in a slot that they already have a higher item level in, no Shadowflame Crests will be required. For example, players who have looted or upgraded to an item level 437 helm will see helms of all lower item levels cost no crests and 50% of the Flightstones. The Flightstone discount (but not the Crest discount) is account-wide. For rings, trinkets, and one-handed weapons, since two of each can be equipped, the lower item level piece determines the discount limit.
