Arena Season 9 (Vicious) commenced on 2010 December 14, one week after the release of Cataclysm, and ended on 2011 June 28, coinciding with the release of patch 4.2.0. The season lasted 28 weeks.

Season 9 is notable for being the first season with rated battlegrounds. It also introduced some new features such as War Games, which are player managed unrated arena battles.
