Skyriding (previously known as Dragonriding) is a momentum and physics-based flight style, allowing players to fly at a significantly higher speed than The Burning Crusade-style "Steady Flight".[1] Players can upgrade their flying skills using the Skyriding talent tree.[1]
"Dragonriding" was originally limited to the Dragon Isles and a handful of mounts,[2] but with patch 10.2.5 it became available in old-world continents at reduced speeds with [Riding Abroad]. Once unlocked, it is available to all characters on the account that are level 60-70.
The dracthyr racial ability [Soar] is equivalent to skyriding after
[Empowered Soaring] is unlocked.
Skyriding mounts
Initially, only a handful of mounts were capable of skyriding, with each of the main outdoor zones of the Dragon Isles introducing a new type of dragon with that capability.[3] There are four base types of dragon that the player can choose from, each of which has over 50 customization options available.[4] Additional mounts were made available over the course of the expansion, however some have no customization options. The War Within updated over 440 mounts to be capable of skyriding.

To further improve skyriding, skills and passives can be unlocked to improve how much and how fast Vigor can recharge. This talent tree window can be accessed from the Mounts tab, inside the Skyriding dropdown as the first option.
Races
Across the Dragon Isles, the bronze flight has organized a series of Dragonriding races. Compete against the clock to earn numerous achievements across five race types: normal, advanced, advanced reverse, challenge, and challenge reverse. The Storm racing series is available at several of the Dragon Isles locations, available exclusively for a stormrook mount such as the [Algarian Stormrider].
The Dragonriding races have expanded to the old world, introducing a series of new races on specific continents which includes the Kalimdor Cup, Eastern Kingdoms Cup, Outland Cup, and the Northrend Cup. There have been rumors of a Pandaria Cup and a Broken Isles Cup.
Notes
- At the announcement over the course of the development of The War Within, Dragonriding was re-named as "Dynamic Flight" to include the integration of the hundreds of legacy mounts that would be introduced into the system. Only near the release of The War Within beta was it renamed "Skyriding".

isn't compatible with Skyriding. To address this there is a "Ride Along" feature where characters can speak with Lithragosa (the Dragonriding Trainer). When Ride Along is turned on and a player is mounted, other players in the same party may interact with them to transform into a whelp that will automatically follow along.[5] - Dragonriding was designed early on during the development of Dragonflight.[6] The introduction of dragonriding required changes to be made to the design of the Dragon Isles, such as increasing their height and introducing cloud layers.[4]
- Dragonriding came to the rest of Azeroth in patch 10.2.5, and 400+ older mounts will be able to use Skyriding speed and abilities with the launch of The War Within.
Patch changes
Patch 11.0.0 (Beta): Renamed from Dragonriding. 440+ Flying Mounts will feature Dynamic Flight active abilities, faster speeds, and new animations in The War Within.
Patch 10.2.5 (2024-01-16): Dragonriding is now available throughout Azeroth wherever flying is available. Outside of the Dragon Isles, Dragonriding mounts move at 85% of their maximum speeds.
Patch 10.0.2 (2022-11-15): Added.
