“As you all well know, the path of our people has not been an enviable one. Blood elf and draenei alike have been tested. Conflict and strife have been our constant companions for as long as any of us can remember. For countless years, and across the faces of many worlds, draenei have yearned to better embrace the Light and put an end to darkness. So too have our Scryer brethren held such ambition. At last my noble brothers and sisters, our time is at hand!”
The Shattered Sun Offensive (abbreviated as SSO) is an army rallied by the Sha'tar naaru to prevent Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider's mad bid to use the Sunwell as a portal to summon his master, Kil'jaeden.[1] The Offensive marks the union between the draenei priests of the Aldor and the blood elf wizards of the Scryers in an effort to avert the Burning Legion's invasion of the Isle of Quel'Danas. Their main base of operations is the port town of Sun's Reach, located on the northwest edge of the island, where they used its arcane sanctum, armory, and harbor to supply their troops during the Battle for Quel'Danas.

The Burning Crusade
Battle for Sun's Reach
- Main article: Battle for Sun's Reach
After Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider's attack on Silvermoon City in 26 ADP, Lady Liadrin was outraged and immediately renounced all her allegiance to the House of Sunstrider. She traveled to Outland to warn the Sha'tar of the prince's plot, and pledged herself and her Blood Knights to the cause of the naaru. The two principal factions of Shattrath City—the Aldor and Scryers—chose to put aside their differences and unite together to form the Shattered Sun Offensive. The principal aim of the new faction became the defeat of Prince Kael'thas and ending the threat posed by the Burning Legion on the Isle of Quel'Danas.[4]
When the first adventurers reached the Isle of Quel'Danas, the Shattered Sun Offensive's base of operations at Sun's Reach only consisted of elven ships and a small camp, the Shattered Sun Staging Area. The first building to be reclaimed was the Sun's Reach Sanctum,[5][6] and upon retaking it, their next step was to recover the Sun's Reach Armory.[7] At the same time, Exarch Nasuun in Shattrath City created a portal to the Isle of Quel'Danas, and asked the adventurers to help him complete it.[8] Once the portal was activated, Exarch Nasuun regularly asked the heroes to find more mana cells in order to maintain the portal, while Astromancer Darnarian sent them to test the island's ley lines.[9] Sun's Reach Harbor was the third and final location to be reclaimed, along with the Silvermoon's Pride.[10]
While much of the Legion's attention was focused on the Shattered Sun advance from the north, the demons also remained preoccupied with the continued presence of the Undead Scourge at the Dead Scar to the south. As such, a great deal of their army had to be focused against the undead, which presented the Shattered Sun Offensive with an advantage. In an attempt to prevent the demons from annihilating their Scourge adversaries (and thus free up much-needed forces) dragonhawk bombing runs using arcane charges were launched to hit the demonic forces at the Dead Scar.[11]
Upon learning that the Darkspine naga tribe had enslaved the local Greengill tribe of murlocs, using their slaves to dig up iron ore on the Greengill Coast for the war effort of their Legion allies, the Shattered Sun Offensive increased its efforts against the naga and collected their resources for the armory,[12] which led to the establishment of an Alchemy Lab.
After their victory, the Offensive accepted donations of gold to construct a Monument to the Fallenn in order to memorialize all those who gave their lives in Sun's Reach's capture,[13][14] while the naaru K'iru arrived to offer a song of victory to bolster the troops' resolve and further aid in the battle.[15]
Fury of the Sunwell
- Main article: Battle for Quel'Danas
Through their efforts, the Shattered Sun forces had disrupted Prince Kael'thas's spellwork long enough for more help to arrive, allowing the Horde and Alliance to converge on the Sunwell. Under the lead of Lady Liadrin, the Horde's champions succeeded in cutting a path through the Sunblade's forces in the Magisters' Terrace, and eventually killed the Sun King.[16] Just before succumbing to death, the prince gave out a final, maniacal rant — reveling in Azeroth's coming destruction at the hands of Kil'jaeden.[17] If he had succeeded, the darkness of the Legion would have spread quickly to all corners of Azeroth, extinguishing everything in its path.[18]
The Offensive later established a small foothold within Sunwell Plateau, however, an arcane guardian twisted by the Burning Legion blockaded their advance and threw them back to the entrance. A strike team of Alliance heroes was eventually deployed to clear the way forward.[16] Following the defeat of Kil'jaeden, the Shattered Sun troops entered the fount's room, followed by Prophet Velen and Lady Liadrin's own arrival, and were present to witness the Sunwell's rebirth from the heart of M'uru.[19]
Wrath of the Lich King
Though their work was done, it appeared that the Offensive had not been entirely relieved from duty. During the Scourgewar in 27 ADP, the Isle of Quel'Danas was back under complete control of the kingdom of Quel'Thalas, with blood elves fortifying the defenses of their sacred Sunwell. The remnants of the Shattered Sun still hold a small presence around Dawnstar Village and its surrounding areas, where a few of their agents could be seen assisting the Silvermoon Builders in reconstructing the area.[20]
Dragonflight
By the Year 42 ADP, Knight-Lord Dranarus, emissary of the Shattered Sun, was sent to Orgrimmar on behalf of Velen regarding a matter of great importance.[21]
Midnight
During the Void's assault on the Sunwell, Blood Knights and vindicators wearing the Shattered Sun Offensive's tabard were stationed at Sun's Reach Sanctum on Quel'Danas.

Shattrath City's final push against Prince Kael'thas' operations in the Sunwell.
The Shattered Sun Offensive is a faction added in patch 2.4.0 with the opening of the Isle of Quel'Danas and its instances. In addition, several new quest givers were added in Shattrath City, and the majority of the NPCs around the Terrace of Light were changed as members of the Offensive, with blood elves mingling with the draenei (prior to 2.4, all of the NPCs around the Terrace were draenei affiliated with the Aldor).

Rewards
After the Sun's Reach Armory is reclaimed, several other vendors spawn including Smith Hauthaa, the
[Badge of Justice] vendor. Once players retake Sun's Reach Harbor and activate the Alchemy Lab, Shaani begins selling her jewelcrafting wares.
Quests
In The Burning Crusade, the Shattered Sun Offensive storyline was unique as most quests were added or removed based on the completion of server-wide objectives, like retaking locations across the Isle of Quel'Danas, or activating the portal to the Isle from Shattrath, and not based on reputation. Most quests take place solely on the Isle, but a few involve activities elsewhere in Outland. Quests not taking place on the Isle are marked with their zone information below. Once the final phase is reached, there are Shattered Sun Offensive quests taking place in every zone of Outland excluding Zangarmarsh.

Sun's Reach daily quests
Quests are first introduced in the phase designated by their column and either last until the beginning of the phase introducing their replacements if marked by a dagger (†), or are permanently added to the game. The dagger notation is kept throughout the wiki for all links pointing to the removed quests.
Only the quests in the rows designating an objective count towards completing that objective. So, only the quests
[70 Daily] Intercept the Reinforcements (IR) and
[70 Daily] Taking the Harbor (TH), as part of the Sun's Reach Harbor objective, will advance the realm towards Phase 4.
Alternate rows under the "Portal", "Anvil" and "Monument" headers are introduced at the same time as their parent phases (Phases 2, 3 and 4, respectively), but track completion separately from the parent phases. Realms on average will complete the alternate (Phase nB) phases before advancing to the next major phase.
Nearly all of the quests in this table are both daily quests, and available at all reputations starting from neutral with the Offensive. The exceptions are
[25-30 Daily] Your Continued Support (YCS), which is a daily quest available until players reach exalted reputation with the Offensive, and
[25-30] A Magnanimous Benefactor (AMB), which is a one-time only quest, available starting in Phase 4, but requires exalted reputation with the SSO to be eligible. These two quests also have a negative amount listed in the ΔGold column, indicating their status as donation quests.
Due to the rather large amount of information in this table, all of the quest names and rewards have been abbreviated to limit the visible size of the table. Simply hover over the link to bring up a tooltip with the full name of the quest and reward information if javascript is enabled. Additionally, the column headers for the phases link to their relevant sections in the Reclaiming Sun's Reach section of the article.
Players performing these daily quests after the Wrath of the Lich King expansion will now see a lower gold return in exchange for experience granted for completing the quests while still under the level cap. The total for all 19 quests (including YCS but not AMB) will grant 208800 experience, 69
, and 4450 reputation.
