The Molten Core is a level 60 raid dungeon located within Blackrock Mountain, home and seat of power[1] to Ragnaros the Firelord and a gateway from the Firelands to Azeroth.[1]

For the Season of Discovery it was revamped as a 20 player raid, though it will allow up to 40 players.

Difficulty

There are three difficulty levels in the Season of Discovery version of Molten Core. The difficulty can be changed at any time by talking to Duke Hydraxis at the entrance. Increasing the difficulty level will raise the damage dealt by the bosses, as well as introducing additional mechanics. The difficulty does not affect the quality of the loot, but bosses may drop additional loot or unique appearances on higher difficulties.

Sweltering Heat

The default difficulty level. Designed to be approachable by most groups with a minimum of preparation. No additional Fire Resistance is needed for this difficulty level.

Blistering Heat

Designed for coordinated groups taking some advance preparations. Most bosses will drop one additional item. Taking fire damage will apply a debuff called Conflagration that will instantly kill players with less than 96 Fire Resistance.

Molten Heat

Designed for highly coordinated groups that spend a significant amount of time preparing before the raid. Loot is the same as Blistering Heat, but weapons can drop with a unique "Molten" visual effect. The 11th boss, The Molten Core, can only be challenged after defeating all previous bosses at this difficulty. Conflagration will now instantly kill players with less than 226 Fire Resistance.
