Jace Darkweaver is a night elven demon hunter of the Illidari, initially found as a quest giver on Mardum. He used to be a mage and still retains some knowledge of the arcane, but the fel makes it nearly impossible to use. One thing he can still manage is the occasional spell to glimpse faraway places.[2] He appears to be quite analytical and intelligent, serving as the technological brains behind the Illidari. He has shown the ability to create demonic wards[3] and handles the maintenance and upgrades to the Illidari's Legion ship, the Fel Hammer.[4] He can be recruited as a class order champion.
Biography
Mission to Mardum
While on their mission on the prison homeworld of Mardum, sent by Illidan Stormrage to retrieve the Sargerite Keystone, Jace set out to gather as much intel as possible that could lead to the keystone and what they could learn about the Legion leaders in the area. He noted concern about the growing power of the Burning Legion after being briefed on the existence of the jailers, a powerful race of demons that can suck the souls from even demon hunters.[5] After sensing the essence of the recently dispatched Inquisitor Baleful in possession of a fellow demon hunter,[6] he commented on the grim business of opening portals to the Black Temple by sacrificing souls necessary to power them, in this case the soul of one of the Ashtongue Broken to summon reinforcements from the Coilskar tribe.[7] Jace reminded everyone that the illidari would do anything to defeat the Legion.
Utilizing a ritual that allowed him to spy upon legion commanders, Jace discovered the existence of the Aranasi, a new spider-like demon that they had not yet encountered. During the ritual, he revealed Brood Queen Tyranna informing Doom Commander Beliash that demon hunters had invaded the planet, and that Sargeras' Keystone needed to be kept from them. Beliash relayed his intention to attack the Illidari from behind by ordering his Eredar to summon more demons to the planet.[8] Jace gave the order to deactivate the Spires of Woe, to kill Beliash, and for the future Slayer to claim his power for their own.[9] Jace would continue to guide the demon hunter to various objectives throughout the assault on Mardum, such as revealing hidden demons and taking their power.[10][11]
Capture and freedom
Following the assault on Mardum, Jace and the other Illidari returned to the Black Temple, only to find Illidan defeated. The Betrayer's body was imprisoned by Maiev Shadowsong and her Wardens within the Vault of the Wardens, soon followed by Jace and the demon hunters present, where they were all locked in stasis for many years.[12] As the Legion launched their third invasion of Azeroth, Maiev set the demon hunters free to help her stop an assault by Gul'dan.[13] Jace would secure the elevators of their prison and allow his comrades to escape.[14]
After the Battle for the Broken Shore, Jace led the Illidari delegation to the Alliance in Stormwind City.[15] Within Stormwind Keep, he and the demon hunter adventurer exposed the demon infiltrators, eventually fending off an attack, and earning the trust of King Anduin Wrynn and the Alliance leadership in their joined cause against the Burning Legion.[16][17]
Battling the Legion
Jace later briefly appeared in Dalaran, accompanying Altruis the Sufferer or Kayn Sunfury (depending on faction affiliation).[18] In order to obtain the Aldrachi Warblades, the commander met with Archmage Khadgar to obtain a Crystallized Soul. Khadgar commented that the demon hunter was tapping into magic even Illidan would have considered dangerous.[19] Upon returning, Jace used the crystal to communicate with Allari the Souleater and needed intel of where the Warbaldes were located.[20] All Jace could retrieve from the transmission were the words Caria and Broken Shore.[21] Upon return from obtaining the Artifacts, Jace instructed the demon hunter to give the order to kill the demons' souls to power a portal to Mardum.[22][23]
Jace would also aid the efforts of the priest order hall as they sought the staff T'uure, Beacon of the Naaru, which was in possession of the eredar Lady Calindris, who was his prey at the time. While he had been chasing her minions all over the Broken Isles for some time, Jace did, however, agree to assist Vindicator Boros and his priest ally in killing Calindris, as he was only after her soul, not her equipment.[24]
On the Fel Hammer, Jace noted that while the ship had the power, the jump engines were non-functional. He requested the demon hunter salvage the necessary parts from the command centers and soul engines the Legion brought to the Broken Isles.[25] After retrieving the parts, a loud rumble came from the south of the ship and The Deceiver appeared before them, presenting the Illidari with a final chance to become Felsworn and join the Legion, but they continued to refuse his offer.[26] With the ship repaired, the Fel Hammer made the jump to Niskara and the Illidari began their invasion. Jace was among the demon hunters that accompanied the Slayer to the surface and aided in slaying the traitors, Caria and Varedis.[27] With a terrible blow dealt to the Legion, Jace and Allari were promoted to order hall champions for the instrumental roles they played during the invasion of Niskara.[28][1]
Jace was later stationed at the Illidari Stand in Azsuna.

- Mardum
I'm glad that you're here, <name>.
Now, let's be about our business.
Jace, what is this Nether Crucible?
The crucible? It's a device that we can use to scry upon others or communicate across great distances.
We can even use it to contact other dimensions.
It feeds on fel energy. The more distant the target, the more energy required by the ritual.
What's your opinion about the Shivarra?
The Shivarra and many other demons swore fealty to Lord Illidan when he defeated their former master, the pit lord Magtheridon. We also have naga, broken, and some other creatures working for us.
If the Lord of Outland is okay with it, then I guess that's good enough for me.

Notes and trivia
[Jace Darkweaver's Coin] can be fished up from the fountain in the
version of Dalaran.
- "Darkweaver" was also a random Demon Hunter hero in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos.
- Jace is voiced by Josh Petersdorf.
- He has an invisible Follower recruiting spell with the following description:
Champion: Jace Darkweaver — "In his former life, before making the ritualistic changes to become one of the Illidari, Jace was a powerful mage. He still retains much of his magic knowledge. Combined with his mastery over the fel energies coursing through his body, he has created many useful devices for the Illidari, such as the nether crucibles, demon traps, and wards." The spell is associated to a buff that says "Jace Darkweaver has mastered the ways of the Vengeance demon hunter. He is most notable for his ability to enact fel rituals and provide the Illidari with creative means of dealing with tough situations."
In Hearthstone
Jace Darkweaver appears as a demon hunter legendary minion in the United in Stormwind expansion for Hearthstone. His flavor text reads: "As a former mage, making the transition from fire to felfire was quite easy."
Speculation

This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.
|
That Jace used to be a mage but was already a demon hunter by the attack on Mardum during The Burning Crusade, several years before common night elves re-accepted the arcane, may mean that he is a Highborne.
