The Vilebranch tribe is a tribe of forest trolls that currently inhabit several areas in the Hinterlands. They are said to be a depraved lot; feeding on other trolls and humanoids.[2]
History
After the Troll Wars the Vilebranch tribe returned to their ancestral lands, in the area that is now called the Hinterlands. Like all other forest trolls, the Vilebranch allied themselves with the Horde during the Second War under the leadership of Zul'jin, a famous troll hero from the Amani tribe. When the Horde was soundly defeated, Zul'jin disappeared, and the forest trolls abandoned their orcish allies.[3]
Furious at the orcs' failure to live up to Doomhammer's promise, the Vilebranch trolls returned home to their capital city of Jintha'Alor. They also had a small settlement at the Altar of Zul and in the Shaol'watha ruins. The Vilebranch trolls eventually discovered that the Revantusk tribe had moved into the area, and decided that the small Revantusk tribe would be an easy source of victims for rituals. The Revantusks fought back with strength and cunning, and the Horde began sending reinforcements to aid the Revantusk tribe. Nonetheless, thanks to their unusually large numbers, the Vilebranch trolls remain confident to this day that they will defeat the Revantusks once and for all.[3]
World of Warcraft
The Vilebranch launched a bold midmight against the Revantusk Village and took the likes of Elder Torntusk and Guard Captain Malkhor prisoner and brought them to Jintha'Alor. While Malkhor was executed, Vile Priestess Hexx sought to sacrifice Elder Torntusk to the faceless Blood God, Hakkar the Soulflayer.[4][5] Dark vessels of his tainted blood radiated the foul magic, woven by Vile Priestess Hexx, empowering the Vilebranch and also driving them to madness.[6] The Revantusk called upon their Horde allies to strike back at the Vilebranch and Elder Torntusk was freed from his imprisonment.[7]
When Hakkar is returned in Zul'Gurub, the Vilebranch sent an ambassador to Zul'Gurub.[8]
Cataclysm
With the death of their chieftain Vile Priestess Hexx, the Vilebranch became leaderless.
After the Cataclysm, the Vilebranch trolls took over the Agol'watha ruins, but lost the Shaol'watha ruins to the Revantusk and Wildhammer Clan. They also took over the formerly Witherbark temple of Shadra'Alor.
The Vilebranch used to drink the blood of Hakkar, but now drink the blood of Shadra, the spider loa.[9] The Vilebranch within Jintha'Alor came under attack from both the Alliance and Horde, with the Wildhammer wanting to deal with the Vilebranch and the Revantusk seeking to claim Jintha'Alor as their own. Amid the fighting, they performed a mass sacrifice intending to summon Shadra.[10] However they were foiled when the [Tablet of Shadra] was claimed by adventurers.[11] The Vilebranch were ultimately defeated, with the Revantusk claiming Jintha'Alor and vowing to deal with stragglers that remained.[12]
The Vilebranch within Agol'watha came under attack as the Horde and Alliance sought to summon Shadra, with the Wildhammer seeking to kill her in advance before she could be directed to them, while the Forsaken once more collected Shadra's venom for their apothecaries.[13]
Battle for Azeroth
Vilebranch Speakers can be found in Zuldazar on Zandalar. Following the death of Rastakhan, Vilebranch Mourners attended his funeral.[14]

Trivia
- The Troll Compendium says that the Vilebranch tribe split off from the Amani Empire after the Troll Wars. This was retconned by World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 3 that showed that the tribe remained affiliated with the Empire.
