The Vilebranch tribe is a tribe of forest trolls that live in the Hinterlands. They are said to be a depraved lot, feeding on other trolls and humanoids.[3]
The soul eaters and blood drinkers, foul worshippers of the evil god Hakkar, are the strongest members of the tribe.[2]
History
After the Troll Wars in 2,800 BDP, the Vilebranch tribe returned to their ancestral lands, in the area that is now called the Hinterlands. Like all other forest trolls, they allied themselves with the Orcish Horde during the Second War under the leadership of Zul'jin, a famous troll hero from the Amani tribe. When the Horde was soundly defeated, Zul'jin disappeared, and the forest trolls abandoned their orcish allies.[4]
Furious at the orcs' failure to live up to Doomhammer's promise, the Vilebranch trolls returned home to their capital city of Jintha'Alor. They also had a small settlement at the Altar of Zul and in the Shaol'watha ruins. The Vilebranch trolls eventually discovered that the Revantusk tribe had moved into the area, and decided that the small Revantusk tribe would be an easy source of victims for rituals. The Revantusks fought back with strength and cunning, and the New Horde began sending reinforcements to aid the Revantusk tribe. Nonetheless, thanks to their unusually large numbers, the Vilebranch trolls remain confident to this day that they will defeat the Revantusks once and for all.[4]
World of Warcraft
Four years after the Third War, the Vilebranch launched a bold midnight raid against the Revantusk Village, capturing Elder Torntusk and Guard Captain Malkhor to take them at Jintha'Alor. While Malkhor was executed, Vile Priestess Hexx sought to sacrifice the elder to the faceless Blood God, Hakkar the Soulflayer.[5][6] Dark vessels of his tainted blood radiated the foul magic, woven by Vile Priestess Hexx, empowering the Vilebranch and also driving them to madness.[7] The Revantusk called upon their Horde allies to strike back at the Vilebranch, and Elder Torntusk was freed from his imprisonment.[8]
When Hakkar returned in Zul'Gurub, the Vilebranch pledged their allegiance to Jin'do and their souls to Hakkar,[9] and sent an ambassador to Zul'Gurub.[10]
The Burning Crusade
Hex Lord Malacrass, Zul'jin's advisor who stole power from the loa Akil'zon, Halazzi, Jan'alai, and Nalorakk, and trapped their essences within troll warriors, was from the Vilebranch tribe.[11]
Cataclysm
With the death of their chieftain Vile Priestess Hexx, the Vilebranch became leaderless. By the time of the Cataclysm in 28 ADP, the Vilebranch took over the Agol'watha ruins, but lost the Shaol'watha ruins to the Revantusk. They also took over the formerly Witherbark temple of Shadra'Alor.
While the Vilebranch used to drink the blood of Hakkar, they replaced it with the blood of Shadra, the spider loa.[12] Jintha'Alor eventually came under attack from both the Alliance and Horde, with the Wildhammer wishing to stop the threat they represented, while the Revantusk sought to claim Jintha'Alor as their own. Amid the fighting, the Vilebranch performed a mass sacrifice intending to summon Shadra.[13] However they were foiled when the Tablet of Shadra was claimed by adventurers.[14] The tribe was ultimately defeated, with the Revantusk claiming Jintha'Alor and vowing to deal with any stragglers that remained.[2]
The Vilebranch within Agol'watha also came under attack as the Horde and Alliance sought to summon Shadra, with the Wildhammer seeking to kill her in advance before she could be directed to them, while the Forsaken once more collected Shadra's venom for their apothecaries.[15]
Battle for Azeroth
During the Fourth War in 33 ADP, Vilebranch Speakers could be found in Zuldazar on Zandalar. Following the death of God King Rastakhan, Vilebranch Mourners attended his funeral.[16]
Midnight
The Vilebranch will be present in the Maisara Caverns dungeon, where they have abducted trolls of the Witherbark tribe.

Trivia
- The Troll Compendium says that the Vilebranch tribe split off from the Amani Empire after the Troll Wars. This was retconned by World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 3, which showed that the tribe remained affiliated with the Empire at least up until the First War.
- Vilebranch Coins used to drop from trolls in Zul'Gurub.
