Not much is known of Tharianos other than that he was known as James Thompson in life. He was a blacksmith in the upper regions of Lordaeron before his structure collapsed upon him by Scourge forces and he was raised to serve them. In death, he served the Lich King unquestionably. He was one of the champions that fought within the Pit of Saron once it had been created. He was hidden within until his master called him out for a mission to confuse a certain human warrior of the Argent Crusade. The cunning knight landed near the warrior and lied that he was the warrior's future apparition.

This was meant to confuse the warrior into eventually going mad and joining the Scourge ranks. However, just as the Death Knight attempted a random gripping spell to trap him, the warrior retaliated by pushing the death knight off the bridge they were standing on. Tharianos' frost wyrm attempted to catch him, but he signaled it to let him fall. His body crushed into the ground and he was never seen again.
