Nerub-ar Palace is the first raid of The War Within. It is located within Azj-Kahet and features 8 boss encounters, as well as tier rewards.[1]

Getting there

Entrance area

The instance line is in southwestern City of Threads at [35.3, 72.0] or at [45.1, 90.7] in Azj-Kahet coordinates.

Quests and story mode

Unlocked the week of 17 September 2024 (one week after the raid opened), a short questline was added to lead players to the raid. To be eligible, players must have first completed the  [The War Within] campaign at max level. Speak with Webster in Dornogal to begin. Alts are only required to complete the first chapter of the campaign, ending with N [80] Urban Odyssey.

Adventure Guide

Deep within the kingdom of Azj-Kahet lies Nerub-ar Palace, Queen Ansurek's seat of power. From this shadowed throne Queen Ansurek has tightened her grip on her Sureki followers, leading them along a dark path to a new future. As her paranoia grows, the members of the conspiratorial Severed Threads launch their final gambit against Ansurek's rule.

Encounters

There are eight boss encounters, spread across three Raid Finder wings. The raid is linear through Rasha'nan. Raiders must then complete the Ovi'nax and Ky'veza encounters in either order, before pushing through to the Silken Court and Ansurek.

The Skittering Battlements

Guardians both monstrous and noble guard the festering pits and hanging battlements surrounding Nerub-ar Palace.

Ulgrax the Devourer
Queen Ansurek's evolutionary experimentation created a number of monstrous guardians for her throne, none more voracious than Ulgrax the Devourer. Driven mad by endless hunger, Ulgrax is now the ravenous protector of Queen Ansurek's court.
The Bloodbound Horror
In the dark pits below Nerub-ar Palace, the blood of the Old Gods congeals in foul, black pools. The Bloodbound Horror rises from this vile ooze - drawing everything in its path into The Unseeming.
Sikran, Captain of the Sureki
Sikran established himself as an arrogant duelist within Queen Ansurek's court. Never knowing the cut of an enemy's blade, Sikran dispatched his rivals one-by-one and was proclaimed Captain of the Sureki by the queen herself. This indomitable fighter now ensures that any who threaten his queen fall before the throne's might.

Secrets of Nerub-ar Palace

Sikran leads the nerubian forces with tactical cunning and precision, dispatching any interlopers that would usurp the queen.

Rasha'nan
Twisted by Queen Ansurek's experiments, Rasha'nan was transformed from a proud nerubian into a monstrous, winged horror. Trapped within her new form, shattered memories of her former self drive Rasha'nan into an unquenchable rage.
Broodtwister Ovi'nax
Deep within the bowels of the queen's palace, Broodtwister Ovi'nax conducts abominable experiments with the black blood found in Azj-kahet. This corpulent horror lumbers through the palace's cavernous depths, regurgitating inky sludge onto hatchlings to observe its gruesome effects.
Nexus-Princess Ky'veza
Nexus-Princess Ky'veza arrived at Nerub-ar Palace only recently, quickly establishing herself as a confidante of Queen Ansurek. However, rumors abound within the inner court that she may harbor a dark and deadly secret. If discovered, the princess is prepared to dispatch all witnesses without mercy...

Queen Ansurek succumbs to her vicious paranoia and delves deeper into dark power to retain control of her empire.

The Silken Court
Scarab Lord Anub'arash and Skeinspinner Takazj are Queen Ansurek's most trusted advisors, yet these two powerful nerubians harbor a hatred for each other even more powerful than their loyalty to the throne. While unleashing their considerable strength onto their enemies, each also fights to ensure their counterpart doesn't survive.
Queen Ansurek
After a revelation of traitors in her court, Queen Ansurek decides she must eradicate the palace's invaders herself. However, paranoia over whom she can trust gnaws at her psyche. With her allies dwindling, Queen Ansurek may delve into dark powers to attain victory, even if that means her most loyal soldiers become her next meal...

Nerub-ar Finery

Bosses drop [Nerub-ar Finery], which can be turned in in sets of 16 to Anub'azal at the start of the raid for a stacking damage/healing buff.

Interior, Nerub-ar Palace, the Grand Rampart. As Ulgrax falls to the platform with a smash, the acid eating its way through the webs holding up the platform finally does enough damage to break two of them. The platform shifts a little, and the adventurer along with their raiding party look around nervously. Two more webs break and the platform starts to fall. The raiders desperately try to run uphill, but it's no use and they fall, along with the corpse of Ulgrax, down to the Pulsing Pit far below.

Foreseer Xix'amon yells: Let the royal guard fish their corpses from the pool.

Interior, the Crown of Shadows. Back-stepping, Ansurek loses her footing and falls into the hole in the center of the arena, landing on the camera. After a fade from black, we see from Ansurek's eyes, looking at her outstretched hands, trying to catch her breath.

Xal'atath: Slender is the strand that guides your destiny...

Ansurek keeps trying to push herself up with her forearms but fails.

Xal'atath: So easily overlooked, yet cutting deeper than the sharpest blade.

Xal'atath stands just behind Ansurek's left. Wincing, Ansurek turns to look at her, but Xal'atath disappears.

Xal'atath: Shhhh. It's almost over.

A wide-angle shot shows Ansurek by herself, then a closeup show Xal'atath behind Ansurek's right this time. Xal'atath clasps her palms together as she floats around Ansurek. Ansurek is still trying and failing to get to her feet. Xal'atath just smirks as she looks on.

Xal'atath: Your ambition was rare, you know. Yet despite even betraying your own mother, here you are.

In front of Ansurek, Xal'atath floats down to the ground.

Queen Ansurek: You - promised...

Ansurek desperately reaches out her left arm toward Xal'atath's right leg.

Xal'atath: Nothing. Yet, I gave you everything. You were just... not...enough.

Xal'atath walks away.

Queen Ansurek: Don't you...pity me..!

On her forearms, Ansurek looks up at Xal'atath's receding form. Xal'atath does not deign to look back.

Xal'atath: I don't. You were a means to an end. Your survival wasn't necessary. I simply wish you had lasted a little longer.

Ansurek gives up attempting to rise and lays on her left side. Xal'atath walks up from behind.

Xal'atath: And now you learn the true lesson of the Void... Only the strongest survive.

Xal'atath turns to leave. Ansurek groans and breathes her last as Xal'atath fades into the shadows.

Post-cutscene
Anub'azal says: Finally, this madness is over.
Executor Nizrek says: You have spared our people a dark fate, overcrawler.
Executor Nizrek says: The truth of our alliance must remain hidden for now, but you have our gratitude.
Widow Arak'nai says: While the queen's plot has ended, I fear something worse looms in the shadows.
Widow Arak'nai says: Only time will reveal if we hindered this unseen force, or played into its hands.
