A season is a period of time during which specific content, challenges, and rewards are available. These seasons are a way to keep the game fresh and engaging for players.

PvE seasons

PvE seasons are periods in which Mythic+ dungeons and delves scale to the item level available in the current-tier raid. Delves will also see a new nemesis.

Since Shadowlands Season 4, the last season of each expansion has players revisit the expansion's raids with increased item levels and new rewards. In Shadowlands Season 4, this was done with the Fated Raids system; in Dragonflight Season 4, it was done with the similar Awakened Raids system.

PvP seasons

PvP seasons are periods in which rated PvP combat may occur.

Classic seasons

From Burning Crusade Classic onwards, regular PvP seasons have reoccurred alongside the other Classic content, typically timed with the start and end of each phase. Mists of Pandaria Classic introduced a new set of PvE seasons for Challenge Mode.

The Anniversary progression branch with Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary Edition and onwards will continue with the PvP seasons with additional changes to ratings and brackets.

The 2004 experience has seen its own version of seasons in a form of new realms that introduce changes to the game:

• Season of Mastery was designed as a more challenging raiding experience. It included changes to raid mechanics (including restoring mechanics that were removed early on), the disabling of world buffs in raids, the removal of the boss debuff limit, the  [Soul of Iron] system, and more.
• Season of Discovery was designed around drastic changes to the Classic experience. Starting with an initial level cap of 25, it saw some dungeons redesigned as low-level raids, the rune system, unique events for both PvE and PvP, unique dungeons, and narrative changes throughout the world.

Warcraft Rumble

Seasons in Warcraft Rumble are six-week periods that bring a selection of rewards to obtain from the Guild War Chest and PvP Ladder.
