This article contains lore taken from Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal, the manuals, and/or official bonus maps.

Daemons are the ancient and corrupt denizens of the lower planes. These winged creatures of fire are legendary for their fondness of destruction and brutal cruelty. Daemons harbor a lustful hatred for all mortals and hunger for any chance to bring pain and death upon them. It is rumored that Gul'dan has entered into a pact with a sect of Daemons loyal to the Daemonlord Sargeras who are willing to aid the Warlock in finding their master's Tomb.[1]

Notes

  • Daemons are flying units with a short-ranged attack that cannot be built or summoned. In the campaigns, they can be allied either to the Horde or Gul'dan personally, or apparently neutral, but are always hostile to the player. They appear only on a few maps and are usually found guarding portals or tombs.
  • Daemons cannot be controlled outside of custom maps. Even in custom maps, they may only be controlled one at a time unlike other units. Unlike every other unit in the game, they have no unit quotes or team colors.
  • In stark contrast to the fearsome summoned Daemons from the first game, Daemons in Warcraft II are just a minor aerial nuisance, and not very hard to kill at all.
  • The single Daemon appearing in the Beyond the Dark Portal Horde mission The Tomb of Sargeras is much stronger than usual. See the mission's page for details.
