Howdy! /wave. /snicker. Notice you walking through my recent changes adding a patch notes section. While that's ot a thing high on my "this needs done" list, I'm happy that it appears on yours. I'm confident that the same is true for you regarding my own "do list". :) --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 23:40, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Female dragonspawn models

I thought these were female? TherasTaneel (talk) 19:57, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

I don't really see anything suggesting they're female rather than just a more slender caster type. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 19:58, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
Well,...true. I just thought they were flat chested ones or such features went into the additional legs in the transformation. TherasTaneel (talk) 20:02, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
So the feminine form and the breasts are there just to show they are slender males or androgynous?--SWM2448 21:05, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
I've never really seen them as having breasts, since it's covered with a very flat-looking shirt. Either way, there's no instances of "female" as anything other than a caster, or vice-versa, so in that sense there aren't separate male and female models; just a caster model that might happen to be female. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 21:11, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
This might sound awkward, but really look at the model. From above, there is a clear indentation at the center of the chest, causing the flat-chested front view to become two separate bumps. Some notes: I think it is a stretch to say that all of their casters are female, and all of the others are male, but the model is clearly female. Do female quilboar have a separate model? They are just labeled as casters, but I feel that they have female sexual characteristics. Inversely, I would say that the gnoll "caster" model is male or androgynous. I await your response. It is hard to change your opinion.--SWM2448 21:24, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
Ultimately, I think the issue at hand was that with a somewhat amibiguously gendered (but admittedly somewhat feminine) model being used only for casters, it doesn't really seem right to say that certain types of dragonspawn are always female or to point out that certain female dragonspawn don't have a female model when no female dragonspawn model exists for dragonspawn warriors. It would be like pointing out that all ogre or broken warriors are male, solely because no such female model exists. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 20:18, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Experience for max level quests

Re: N [35] Planting Season et al. Not to be confrontational for confrontations sake, but you didn't provide any comments on this variety of change. Please explain how you know the experience gained for a quest you must be (at the level cap) level 85 to accept? "Wowhead has it" is not an explanation, it merely pushes the explanation out one rung. "Tool X shows it" is only marginally better, but it assumes the tool is functioning correctly. I recall previous cases of the level cap being raised and "gold piece equivalents to XP" not being a constant. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:53, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

My assumption was that Wowhead was puling the xp value from within the quest data itself. Even if that's not the case, then there has to be some source that they're using for the value, even if it's just computing it based on the gold earned beyond the stated reward. Removing it simply because it will never be seen at the current max level seems like it's just causing more work, both to remove it now and to put it back when the cap is raised. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 22:57, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
I have to wonder then if some of the quests (eg N [35 Daily] A Bitter Pill) have a gold reward independent of the XP->gold conversion. While I sympathize, I don't think that we'll actually be allowed to leave these sit when the level cap goes up again. We couldn't when Wrath came out, and we couldn't when cata came out. ... Even though we may in fact not have revisited *every* quest... :/
Aside: what drives me nuts is that the gold reward value for some dailies that are strictly vehicle-mechanic quests (like N [25-30 Daily] Vile Like Fire!) go down every bit as much as the ones that become easier for having gained whatever levels you did. /digression.
  • sigh* Sorry for disturbing your beer. I know, nobody likes watery beer. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 23:41, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
Can you give me an example of Wrath a quest that had its xp value changed in Cataclysm? The one you linked, for instance, hasn't been changed since 3.3, and that change wasn't to the xp value. And the xp value listed on the page is still the same value listed on Wowhead. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 23:59, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
One more thing: Here's an example of quest xp listed for a level 85 quest that's not from Wowhead: [1] (scroll down to the Rewarded By tab and mouse over the quest name). -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 00:01, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Amber Filigreed Doublet

Hey, I'm just wondering what source(s) you are using for the "Patch changes" sections on articles like  [Amber Filigreed Doublet], since I've noticed you've been changing several of the patch numbers on those articles recently. Tycerius (talk) 02:03, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Mostly common sense, in those cases. The Dark Portal Opens event came with Patch 2.0.3, so everything associated with the event was patched in then. In addition, anything in Northrend came with 3.0.3; 3.0.2 was the pre-Wrath patch. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 02:08, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
Well, I can understand some of that, but in the case of the Wrath of the Lich King patches, weren't all those items and other things introduced in Patch 3.0.2, since that was the major pre-expansion content patch for everything related to Wrath? Patch 3.0.3 was just a bug fix patch according to the patch notes, and it was also released prior to the actual launch of Wrath of the Lich King. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tycerius (talk · contr).
Whether those things were pre-loaded in the database or not, none of it was available or accessible until patch 3.0.3. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 02:33, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
If we are going by when items and content were made available to players and not added into the game's database or MPQ files (which are not always going to be the same), then doesn't that pretty much contradict most Wowhead links and even Blizzard's own official patch notes as to when content was added into the game?
Furthermore, as I mentioned, Patch 3.0.3 was released before Wrath of the Lich King was released -- November 4, 2008 vs. November 13, 2008. Just because the expansion was released during Patch 3.0.3's life cycle doesn't mean that the content was suddenly made accessible or available to players upon the release of Patch 3.0.3. The content was already in the game with Patch 3.0.2, unless it was stated otherwise. Hence, you have things like talents, Inscription, achievements, the barbershop, Stormwind Harbor, etc. If both the patch and the expansion were released at the same time, then yes, it would be true. But it is not in this case. Tycerius (talk) 03:35, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Removed Quests

The way the quests are all lumped together now on "Seer Ravenfeather"'s page is a bit confusing. It's not immediately clear whether the 'Removed Quests' label refers to the quests above or below, or what. Was there something wrong with the way I'd had it before? MerryC (talk) 05:30, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

It's just how I've seen it done on other pages. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 05:40, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I've seen it on a few pages, too. But is it a set-in-stone rule that it has to be formatted that way? The giant grey X is very distracting, and having quests that have been removed from the game right next to quests relevant to people trying to play WoW seems cluttered. MerryC (talk) 06:01, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
You could probably move them to their own section, just make sure it's "Removed quests" or something like that and use the {{rfg-section}} template. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 06:42, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
That's a good solution. I'll use that from now on. MerryC (talk) 07:12, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Renaming 5.0.3 to 5.0.4

I actually disagree with renaming 5.0.3 to 5.0.4 and removing 5.0.3.

The point is that you did so, but you didn't remove 5.0.1. To be consequent you would also have to remove 5.0.1. Patch 5.0.3 is live and 5.0.4 isn't yet. Then why removing it from Wowpedia?

My suggestion is to restore patch 5.0.3 and add 5.0.4 as 5.0.3's successor. To the availability:

  • Patch 5.0.1 was Closed Beta only;
  • Patch 5.0.3 is both Closed Beta and PTR;
  • Patch 5.0.4 may possibly be PTR only.

Hans Kamp (talk) 07:47, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

We probably should remove 5.0.1, actually, since neither it nor 5.0.3 will go live, and we don't have pages for any other beta patches. And technically, 5.0.3 isn't live, it's on the beta server... Which to some degree is superseded by 5.0.4, which is on the PTR. And since 5.0.4 is the patch number that Blizzard has announced, it's logical therefore that that would be the patch that goes to live. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 17:34, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I agree with (soon) removing 5.0.1. Patch 5.0.4 may be the patch that will go live. Although PTR 5.0.3/5.0.4 and MoP Closed Beta are very similar (especially looking at the old content of Cataclysm), I also notice that Pet Battles are enabled on the Beta, but are disabled on the PTR. For the rest there are a lot of similar bugs between the Beta and the PTR. Hans Kamp (talk) 09:21, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

Poor grammar

How does one enforce the prevention of poor English grammar besides following and correcting every edit? I find it to be proliferating. TheMordecay, Atomos, Copperblast, a few others I forget... even LemonBaby, who is a great editor besides, suffers from this.--SWM2448 23:23, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

It's not something that can really be enforced, no. I don't even mind correcting it; I just find a lot of TheMordecay's contributions to be so bad as to often leave me stumped as to what actually happened in the mangas (that I haven't read). I just feel that when the way it's written interferes with the understanding of the information, then there's a problem. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 00:05, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Reddit Timeline Question

I wanted to thank you so much for asking the question on Reddit, though it makes us seem red-shirty. I overslept and missed my chance to ask anything. As far as I'm concerned, the answer given points more to a "yes" for Cataclysm taking place in Year 28 - which would make you correct - but I appreciate the note made about the ambiguity in the Cataclysm section. -- Mebahiah (talk) 03:56, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

I figured that since the answer wasn't solidly definitive and the ambiguity is so well-known, a note was still warranted. If we ever get a clear timeline, we can remove it then. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 04:10, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Blizzard All-Stars wiki and content licensing request

Heya. Curse is setting up a new Blizzard All-Stars wiki at http://allstars.gamepedia.com/ You're getting this talk page comment because you've made edits to the all-stars article.

Curse is looking to use the content on our Blizzard All-Stars page over there, since that wiki is literally a blank slate. The only thing is, most of our content is available under the CC-BY-SA license here and it's they're using CC-BY-NC-SA on the new wiki. Since it's not the exact same content license (the -NC bit is different), they can't use it as it is without your permission. Curse is mainly wondering if you'd allow them to use your edits on the Blizzard All-Stars article on the new wiki under the CC-BY-NC-SA license.

The licensing decision won't affect any other content here on Wowpedia -- it's just for that one article. Please let me know either way. Feel free to reply back here or email me if you have any questions. Thanks again for all that you're doing here on Wowpedia, by the way. I really do appreciate it. --k_d3 22:57, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

Anji Autumnlight

Not speculation - see the Dungeon Journal for The Fallen Protectors. -- Alayea (talk / contrib) 00:16, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Only three of them are named, though, and it doesn't make sense that they'd leave some of them very obviously alive, non-canonically, purely for the quests they offer when they could just give those quests to new NPCs. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 00:25, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
I don't know why they shifted a couple dailies to other NPCs, and not the others that remain, but it'd hardly be the first time that lore and game play have come into conflict (within the same expansion even). Just to make sure we're on the same page, you did specifically read the sections on the article I mentioned labeled Dungeon Journal and Encounter Design, correct? The Encounter Design part is even a blue post itself (albeit in blog form). I also checked the official forums a few days back while updating GL pages for 5.4 and came across this. I didn't wish to mention it earlier for various reasons, but it does talk about what players have come across in-game. -- Alayea (talk / contrib) 01:01, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
Neither the Dungeon Journal nor the Encounter Design state that literally every single member is dead, though, so since they're alive in the Vale and not named in the raid the simplest explanation is that they escaped the fate that befell their comrades unless we hear otherwise. Stating that they're actually dead and that their appearances in the Vale are non-canon is a much bigger leap. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 01:54, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
I will try to obtain clarification on the matter then, but I'm not optimistic about receiving a response from Blizzard. :| -- Alayea (talk / contrib) 02:38, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

There's nothing that says she left Scholomance and died alone, and the question regarding the deceased status did mention Voss as well as Darion and Bolvar: https://twitter.com/Loreology/status/384815495125299201 -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 16:53, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
It is: http://www.scrollsoflore.com/forums/showpost.php?p=966390&postcount=176 --Mordecay (talk) 17:06, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
