question

What's your rationalization for keeping an object and an item page separate in some places and together in others? --Sky (t · c · w) 04:44, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

That's what I thought... Maybe it would be a good idea to combine them in all cases...
What do I know though? --Sky (t · c · w) 05:08, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Some would disagree with that opinion...
Anyway, have fun with your further editing this evening. --Sky (t · c · w) 05:40, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Yarzill and etc

Even though my original shot goes in the ashcan, the wiki is improved. How, may I ask, did you manage to come up with a screenie for that quest so fast? Have one in your attic somewhere?

And on other fronts, I appreciate your addition to [Can't Hold Your Brew], too. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:01, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Enslavable Demons vs Warlock Minions

I look at these two categories, with their big warnings at the top. I am assuming that a warlock uses Enslave Demon to enslave a demon, but I had to go through several pages to discover this. Would it be appropriate to put that information into the category description?

And what drew me here in the first place: Imp is on both categories, as is Felhunter; Felguard, Voidwalker have different page names in the different categories; Succubus is in minions but not enslavable? I do not know enough about higher level warlocks to see what - if anything - is wrong here. But the fact I'm confused might indicate a problem. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:59, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

The category description for Enslavable demons now links to Enslave Demon.
Those articles that are in the enslavable demon category are those containing lore and other information than that about the summoned versions. The pages for the summoned version were separated because it was thought there existed enough information to justify an entire article. Personally, I thought they should all be separated, but there wasn't enough agreement on that.
Now, the real problem here is that someone <.< >.> thought having this category would be a great idea, but didn't bother to populate it properly. Really, what should be in there, are articles that are only about specific instances of mobs. If there is a mob named "Imp" in game (which I'm fairly sure there is), and it is enslavable (which I'm not sure they are) then an article named "Imp" is appropriately placed in the category. The same goes for the others.
So, what I think about this is that there should be "(Warlock pet)" and a "(WoW creature)," if there exists a wow creature with that exact name, versions of each of those articles you mention, lore being in the non-disambiguated article.
What needs to be done is the category needs populating. Someone needs to go do some investigation on which demons are enslavable, create an article for that creature if one does not exist, and add the category to those articles.
Does that answer your questions? --DuTempete (talk) 14:28, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
To a great extent, it does. To sum up, though: "It's a work in progress, there's not consensus on all points, and I haven't gotten there yet". I hope, though, that my questions have been more helpful than burdensome. As I said, I'm not an avid warlock player (yet, anyway), so I'm not a lot of help to ya. Some of these things are like "unfunded mandates"... "this is a nice idea, the rest of you complete it, would ya?" --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 16:46, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

 [Galaen's Journal]

So... my addition was prompting, but not necessarily new material. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:23, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Well I had created many object pages, but later decided just to merge them with their item counterparts. Just so happens I might have missed a few so when I saw that pop up on my watchlist I merged them. And no sense to have the same book text on the same page. It's an argument in favor of just what you're doing... I didn't see the Item page, and so didn't see the text. I think, though, that the item is NOT readable (qv Thottbot). It's the Object that I drew my text from, and as 'a discussion with an NPC', not as 'reading text of an item'. Might want to do a little sprucing on that. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:54, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Oh well I was using WoWhead, and it showed text on the item but not the object... and I can't remember if the item was readable... I do however know the object is least after you take the quest... I think. User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 23:56, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Quote for Warlock

Why can there not be the quote there? What defines a "lore" character from a "not-so-lore" character? Are you saying warlocks aren't anywhere to be mentioned in the History's 5 chapters of WoW? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by WarCrime (talk · contr).

Runecloth Boots

I did not flag Pattern:Runecloth Boots as 'removed from game' myself because - as near as I can tell - the pattern object can still exist. That is, while it is no longer sold, and is no longer needed, anyone who had it in inventory would not have seen it disappear. I can verify that some of the dropped pattern items (that became trained) still stuck around ... I had several such patterns. I do not know if that is enough to qualify for the "RFG" tag, or not. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 18:17, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

"Removed from game" does not always equal "this item does not exist anymore" - it is simply a guideline that it can no longer be obtained. Same reason why the rare level 70 PvP items has been tagged as removed from game. g0urra[T҂C] 18:22, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

You reverted my edits without any explanation. I believe the screenshot I provided was better than what was there. You also removed my map graphic. Can you please give me a rationale for your edit? Rascilon (talk)

I do think the new picture was better. For the map graphics, I'm unsure. I like the idea of highlighting where locations are, as the articles don't really do it otherwise. Kirkburn  talk  contr 23:13, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Page names

I don't understand, the article you referred me to says "There is an important exception to this rule: "the", "a" or "an" is included when it would be capitalized if it appeared in text." The subzone is literally titled "The Dead Scar" in the zone name in the upper-right corner, and the prompt when you enter the subzone itself. Doesn't this fall under the rule's exception, as it not only appears as part of the name, but also appears capitalized, in the text? Mantecon (talk) 01:37, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

It's just how it's done, see The Barrens, The Hinterlands, The North Sea, The Apothecarium, etc. User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 01:40, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Well that doesn't make any sense, it appears to fall short of the rules the wiki itself outlines. I'm new to WoWWiki, but I'm no stranger to them; I'm admin to two. Though each are understandably not as large as this one, I still think it's important to be as specific as possible to what's canon. It's like, going by the naming policy and using Undercity as an example, it is always referred to by characters as "the Undercity," but appears solely as "Undercity" in the zone name, so it's reasonable that the article be titled simply "Undercity." But in the case of zones that are referred to both in lore and by zone name prompt with "The" or such, not that it's inaccurate, but then again it's not necessarily accurate either. Peasant images

I think I might have confused you or you confused me. The images should go as follows: Peasant.png, Peasant2.png, and Peasant3.png since png is the preferred kind right? Now I know Peasant.png and Peasant2.png look the same, but they are from two different manuals. The first one is Warcraft I and the guy is walking in one direction. The second one is from Warcraft II and the guy is walking the other direction and it has a signature on the bottom. I don't know why they did that. Hope that helps.  Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 03:56, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Gilneas Page Revision

That "source" says nothing more than "At Blizzcon, Metzen allegedly admitted that they had kind of forgotten about Gilneas and don't have any immediate plans for it." Which is some random guy on the internet allegedly quoting something that may or may not have been said. I don't see how that justifies a citation. Furthermore - it was up for 2 weeks as [citation needed] and was decided on the talk page that (especially considering most resources linked back to this websites Gilneas page) it should be removed if no link could be found.

I guess I'm fine with it being there, but its nothing more than speculation, and I fail to see how that qualifies as a real source.

Concept art template

Not a bad template. However we'll have to be careful how its used. As we know some concept art has become art used to represent "lore" depictions in certain published sources. In those instances then the regular artwork templates should take precedence, and should be used. Like usual we need to avoid stacking templates.Baggins (talk) 07:49, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

This is a headsup to let you know to be more careful when making generic pages like woodworker, or lumberjack. PCJ has recently gotten onto User:Rolandius for similar actions (although I also tried to explain to Rolandius where he was wrong), and he felt the need to indirectly turn you in, see User talk: Rolandius.

Only two points I can say is try to avoid using real world definitions to pad the article, and if there isn't any actual warcraft citations, or way to make it more than a sentence stub, make it a {{disambig}}.

This is not a formality I wanted to follow through with, since you are one of the most respected and upstanding editors that we have. However, there are accusations that the administrators are biased and are hypocrites. :p

Parqual Fintalas isn't the author of Before the Twisting Nether, even if he did create the page on the wiki for it. WOTLK Mounts

I'm trying to get more of the basic details about the mounts included, but I think it's time someone with a bit more skill at wiki-ing updated the general Mounts page to put in references to the WOTLK stuffs. I gave a rough stab at getting the achievement information out, without actually making a new template on this page: Reins of the Grand Caravan Mammoth. Amani Bear ambiguity

Hi - I'm not sure deleting that page helps. Do you think {{User Bear}} should be specific about Amani War Bear? I don't. But unless there's something for those users to point to, Bear will be stuck on that specific. It shouldn't have been allowed to start with ... know what I mean? I shouldn't have had to create User_BearGeneric in the first place.
I don't know the dynamics in this wiki ... I'd appreciate your help in working through this. Deleting User_BearAmaniWar right now doesn't do much good I can see. --Mangalam (talk) 05:55, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

You wrote: "We don't make template pages ambiguity pages, so it would only be a redirect page. Which why bother with." But ... if you disagree, that's fine of course. Here you ask why bother ... but what I wrote is just that: an explanation of why bother. Because folk who are using Amani War Bear are using the UseBear Template. Which isn't right. I'm not sure why repetition is required. Did I not make sense?
I do agree, you shouldn't have had to create User_BearGeneric in the first place... taming a bear is not an accomplishment". Who's talking about accomplishment? I found that some folk had UseBear as a sort of personal profile ... which suits me just fine. I don't see what this has to do with accomplishment or not accomplishment. Being a casual player and using a template to say so has nothing to do with accomplisment. Or not.
"Now I'm not going to tell you that you can't make templates that involve taming pets, but since {{User Bear}} is an accomplishment it will stay where it is." I think you've missed my point: it's miss-named. It should by rights be {{User AmaniWarBear}} or whatever.
"Also since nothing links to User_BearAmaniWar, then yes its fine to delete it." Again you've missed my point. Players who had Amani War Bears were linking to Bear. 9 players are using that template to show Amani War Bear. So just changing it to be correct would leave them showing the wrong stuff. Before you deleted it, I was going to contact them about changing their template so it wasn't needing any redirect.
It doesn't seem you've heard my main point: It's not right that "Bear" points to Amani War Bear. The name is general, but the contents is specific. --Mangalam (talk) 18:54, 4 October 2008 (UTC) p.s. the image link to your talk page blocks OpenInNewTab.
(In reply to the convo splinter on my user page)
I'm regret that these over-specified cases weren't corrected. Those who use general templates to show their specific ?what? breeds hijacked the whole species. It wasn't right. That it's now more difficult to correct doesn't mean it was right. I created 2 templates, and was going to contact the 9 users who linked through to the "over-specified" one. Where I'm in error there is not at all clear to me. --Mangalam (talk)
"for special or unqiue mounts for accomplishments" ... but you said there shouldn't be templates for accomplishments. Now you say there are. I've no idea what you're going on about.
"Only one Tiger mount in existence, so it didn't need to be specific." But there are lots of different Bears. Amani War Bear is one specific. Why are you avoiding the point?
" NONE of those templates are for tamed pets. You haven't lost me, its you who seems to be lost." I asked some pointed questions ... you just told me what reality was instead of answering. What's Amani War Bear if not tamed? A pet? If I'm wrong about that then great, set me straight. But we've been around this 4 or 5 times now and you haven't made things clear.
There's a template called "Bear" that is actually about one specific bear. I wanted to change that, by making "Bear" generic and "Amani War Bear" for those users who were already using that specific. If I'm wrong, please do point that out. That's what I asked. But you started out by deleting the specific, then saying there should be none at all. (As well as commanding me not to use p.s.) So, sorry, you haven't helped me a bit. --Mangalam (talk) 15:36, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
You've been so busy with the cheap shots and bla-blah about argument you've just ignored my point entirely. You wrote, "since {{User Bear}} is an accomplishment it will stay where it is" ... it's got nothing to do with accomplishment or not (yet again). It has to do with the fact (for the 4th or 5th time) that the template is title "Bear" but refers to one specific bear, the Amani War bear. So someone who tamed another sort of bear would use that template but get the wrong info. If you just read that for a moment you might answer instead of just replying with all sorts of other stuff. --Mangalam (talk) 01:03, 6 October 2008 (UTC) p.s. Yes, I know there are other templates with the same problem. But you saying that's reason for not fixing this one ... that's just wrong headed.
User boxes like that are for accomplishments. Taming a bear isn't an accomplishment. Leave it at there. g0urra[T҂C] 01:07, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Question about updating

I've a newbie question to ask, and I didn't wish to bother the other Users with posting it at the village pump. Hope you want to answer.
My work now is updating the talents with the new data from the huge 3.0.2 patch.
My question is: When I fill in the new data, do I have to leave a note saying:"In patch 3.0.2 this talent was updated, new changes is: etc, etc."? I really dont hope so, because I'm not excellent at writing english =P Hewbie (talk) 08:48, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, technically you are supposed to, however, you can just copy and paste the patch info from 3.0.2 since it's preferred to be an exact patch "quote". It would go under the Patch changes header (if not one, simply add it towards the bottom) and use the {{Patched}} template. Why did you replace my .png with this far-lower-quality version? I'll admit the .png was a bit on the large side (per the image guidelines), but was deemed an appropriate size (below 3 MB) by Kirkburn when I asked him in the IRC channel. In the future, please at least inform me beforehand if you wish to replace my work with poorly compressed .jpg files. Thanks. --Imperialles 08:13, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

 • Sorry if I seemed a bit harsh. My beef wasn't with the replacing in itself, but that you didn't check with me first. Anyway, issue resolved. I'll take GIMP for a spin and try and upload smaller .pngs in the future. Cheers. --Imperialles 08:01, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

WC3 icons

Hello. Thanks for cleaning up some of the icons I uploaded recently.

However, I do have a question/challenge. Can you please give me your reasoning as to why they were put into the "Category:Warcraft III map editor images". I'm challenging you on this (nicely :P) because I think they dont really come under a "map editor" classification. They are ability Icons, just like Wow icons, and to my understanding it would be weird (and not easily findable/searchable) if the Wow icons were put under "Category:Wow User Interface images". To my mind I think the Category that the ones I've uploaded fit under, is a more generic "WC3 Icons".

Looking forward to your reply.Chovynz (talk) 12:03, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Re:Your reply: Cool. Thanks. Yes I can see how that misunderstanding came about. I didnt really know what to call that first page of the WC3 Icons library. However I think it would be better if the icons that are being uploaded were resubcategorised as Category:Warcraft III Icons under Category: Warcraft III images, rather than being misplaced and harder to find under Category:Warcraft III map editor images, which they are most definitely not map editor images. I'll do that as I go, and start the new category from now on. Hopefully we can delete that confusing category soon. Other relevant WC3 Icon pages: WC3 Icons/Icon List, Visual sortable library. Thanks for your help in clarifying my thinking. :) Chovynz (talk) 00:58, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Death knights

So, I'm trying to wrap my mind around the difference between Category:Death Knights and Category:Death knights, and from your response on the village pump, it sounds like you might be the person to ask.

It seems that Category:Death knights refers to the World of Warcraft character class. So it should only contain anything relating to a player character of that class... abilities, quests, items, runeforging etc. While Category:Death Knights refers to DKs in lore, whether in World of Warcraft or any other aspect of the warcraft universe. This could be named DKs or the class in general, but it does NOT refer to the playable WoW class. Am I getting this right?

So, Baron Rivendare (tactics) should be moved to the capitalized Category:Death Knights. And Useful macros for death knights should be moved to Category:Death knights. -- Mordsith - (talk|contr) 19:24, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Scales and Leather?

I'd like to thank you for not only fixing up a few of the things I've done but also for aiding me in the many holes of end-game leatherworking. However, it seems like you're just splitting hairs when differentiating between scales and leather, they are both gathered and used in the same way, it seems that at most scales should only be a sub-genre of leather not a whole free-standing item group. Zurtilik (talk) 23:34, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Huge navigation templates are usually less desired than a few smaller ones, especially for the ones that might see many edits in the future. What's wrong with the tooltips? I got them from Wowdb.com: [1], [2].--Iggey (talk) 00:54, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Wowdb.com has an interesting way of doing it... they put the spell and item together, however, the item is what they are putting as the flavor text and spell as what they are putting the use. I was just waiting for wowhead.com to have the item to use as a reference. Wowhead shows how the item looks in-game, and thats how we strive to have items look as well... we don't combine tooltips. You removed an addition I made...

Just wondering why you removed an addition that I had made to Bonegrip's Note. I had spent over 45min trying to find the Enchanted Sea Kelp and only found it on that rare spawn. So, just wondering why you would remove that comment. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SpecMech (talk · contr).

First of all, sign your comments. Second.. the kelp does not just come off a rare spawn, that would be dumb for blizzard to do, since rare spawns usually have a long respawn timer. The note already says where to get the kelp if one were to read the note, which means your side note was redundant information... and on the wrong page anyway... you'd put that on the sea kelp's page if anywhere. I wasn't trying to. I was just saying touché. The french word in fencing. As in, your right, I was reminding you about revertions when I was sort of doing the same thing with moving pages. So I shouldn't have "reminded" you in the first place. At least you mentioned why you reverted my edits. Some people on here revert my edits with no comment in the edit summary so I have no idea why they changed my edit. I could actually read your edit summary and see what your comment was which is cool. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 02:59, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Ah, ok then, thought you were saying touche as in "sensitive"... cause some spell it with an e instead of y... But I will note that if fandy had a problem with reverts its cause the Revert or rollback button doesn't allow for comments, its just a quick revert button... whereas the Undo button does allow for comments.
Most tend to use the rollback one cause its just one click, where undo requires two. I myself am guilty of it... laziness... That is why I put that little ´symbol on the letter e to try to not make it sound like it was a misspelled "touchy". Ah, I didn't know about the Undo and Revert button difference. Cool. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 04:05, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

The Bravery

Hi, do you have a source for Blizzard using the band 'The Bravery' to name the ship in Stormwind Harbor? Seems a little obscure... paulbrock (talk) 21:29, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Misleading

If you link Malygos and Malygos and they're not the same thing, but yet you put them on the same template its misleading. I appreciate that you're a long time editor, but you're taking ownership over wiki when its clear that making a distinction will only help clarify the situation rather than make it worse. Im a long time editor on Wikipedia and we run into these situations all the time. Rather than revert my changes, offer a solution or I'll take this to arbitration with an administrator. Mkdwtalk 08:10, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Being an editor on Wikipedia and an editor on WoWWiki are two different things, and this is how its done here. If you do actually edit on wikipedia, you'd know to discuss the situation before continuing to change it to the way you think it should be done. I have in no way claimed ownership here, I'm simply reverting what I see to be a vandalism . And yes Template:Eye of Eternity does show the difference LORE go to malygos's lore page and the tactic page goes to the relevant info needed for both those templates, thats how its done here... relevance. My AfD

Sorry, I didn't realize that I could do speedydelete until after i created them. Apologies. // ProjektTHOR (talk) 01:56, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

DNP

I noticed that you marked a few images for speedy deletion per Project:DNP as datamined. If I may call your attention to the wording in the policy you attempt to apply:

Datamined images of live or PTR content are permissible, but "true" in-game screenshots preferred and will always be given preference over datamined content.

So one could argue that since the content is part of Ulduar, and Ulduar is in 3.1 and 3.1 is on the PTR, the data-mined content is permissible per DNP. -- foxlit (talk) 22:05, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

But from what I hear, Ulduar hasn't been officially opened yet either. User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 22:19, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
I believe the intent of that passage is to refer to content or models that can be accessed by someone loading the official PTR and traveling to the subject of the image through normal in-game means being permissible. Is this debate going to happen again? If people bicker long enough about the policy, people in violation of the policy will just hold out (and have debated files kept on WoWWiki) until a consensus is reached, and by that time the patch will be completely live and undeniably allowed, causing violators to win and the debate to be pointless. I think Ulduar is on the PTRs now BTW.[3]--SWM2448 22:26, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Flower shop

Do you really think it needs to be a disambiguation page since WoW only mentions it once? The original redirect was probably the most efficient since there are not two flower shops (at least that I know of) and in the quest A [10-30] Seasoned Wolf Kabobs, it calls it a flower shop. Flower shop is a general term, to my knowledge there has been two in the game, not including the flower cart in dalaran. I knew there was more than one and thats why I stubbed it. Hmm, try to keep on eye on him if you can, please? He seems to create alot of random monster pages with no citations. He also been adding rather poor edits to other pages... necromancer as a race on the undead page for example. Sironas

Re: your edit to the Sironas article, 18 March 2009, what "damage from her aura"? I went back (used a level 37 human rogue) and walked through her, stood inside her, walked through her stealthed (which would break if there was damage); I took no damage at all. (I took a screen shot standing collocated with her.) There is no visible graphic indication that she has any damaging aura mechanic. Might you be remembering something that has been removed from the game? Are you referring to lore?

The rest of the article has no mention of a damaging aura; if there is such an aura, please write it up for the article. Madkaugh (talk) 06:44, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Proper noun lesson

A proper noun is a noun that is the name of a specific individual, place, or object. Death Knight is a proper noun. Bobalobabingbong (talk) 09:00, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Ok... well, theres a lot of Mister Death Knights out there... did you even just read what you typed. "specific individual, place, or object".. Death knight is a class, a description, a general term. User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 09:02, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
And I was just quoting the page you linked. Project:MOS#Capitalization:
Capitalization
Classes should only be capitalized when used as a proper noun, i.e. as someone's name. ("Warlock, go be evil" versus "That warlock is quite evil.") Races such as orc, human, troll or night elf should not be capitalized except when used as a proper noun or at the beginning of a sentence. Factions such as Forsaken, Alliance, Horde, or Argent Dawn should always be capitalized.

Of course I read what I typed; and you don't need to quote the page I linked, I read that too. I was thinking more along the lines of a persons title. But I guess that a Death Knight isn't necessarily a title. I have since discovered that a class is a common noun though. Bobalobabingbong (talk) 09:29, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Dragon trivia

Maybe you could think of something I haven't. I was adding some trivia to the different color dragon articles (the major flights, as I don't think the others have any?) about one word that is usually associated with them, and I could not think of anything for the Bronze dragons. I put "emerald" for the Greens, "ruby" for the Reds, "obsidian" for the Blacks, "azure" for the blues, and then nothing for the Bronzes. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 10:19, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Mystery solved

Okay I just find out what is happening. I have been using "Visual View", not "Code View", so to me it looked like the External links section was the end of the whole article. I thought the categories were not part of the article since they floated at the bottom when your in editing mode. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 13:28, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Yea... visual view is probably meant for light editors... I found it to slow me down, more than help. User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 21:44, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
I think Visual View is the default method or something so I never thought of trying out Code View. It sounded like it had something to do with coding, but I guess it is just another way of editing. Although to me by using Code View, the category area looks a bit disconnected from the main article still, but not as much as the floating Visual View... Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 01:44, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
Generaly Visual vew is the easier way of editing (highlight text and click on Button for bold type ) and it is done - Code view you see the exact coding to make it bold - you would see txt for bbc or ''' txt ''' for here -- it is a more precision (exacting) form of editing (more expert level) compared to Visual view - Normaly that is how they work anyhow -- (<span="help title=Morph>M o r p h | <span="help title=Morph_Contribution(s)_to_this_Wiki>C | <span="help title=Morph_Discussion_Page>T) MorphgnomeMorphdraenei 01:52, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Did the "break" symbol not work either? This thing will not recognize spaces between External links and categories for some reason in either "View" method. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 02:41, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

I can't figure out what else I can put though. Now I see why you thought I was removing spaces so much lately. I didn't notice that all my edits were removing the spaces at the end of the articles. It wasn't really me. No matter where in the article I edit, if I hit "preview" or I guess "save", the spaces between the Categories and External links, or whatever is in the place of External links like {{DEFAULTSORT}}, is removed automagically. In re Quest format

Re Help Talk:Quest articles - As one of the chief people who promoted the "gains" section on quest articles, I believe it most reasonable for you to vote "no" to moving "rewards" below "completion". Perhaps your original rationale for the gains section (over a combined gains/rewards section) would be a useful addition to the discussion; a compelling reason for the gains section makes "gains next to rewards" awkward, leading to "where is the next best place to put it".

I don't anticipate that my view will prevail on that vote, but I do hope to see actual discussion above the level of "because I changed the boilerplate to look that way". Gourra and I are both guilty of that conceit.

So please feel free to vote me down. And if you have time, please do say why. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:01, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

It should, but since Category:World of Warcraft screenshots was created a good 4months after the other two (and mostly cause I didn't see it get created) they were never moved. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:00, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Is 'mob screenshots' a catchall for image categories that don't fit elsewhere, then, not an "also"? (Thinking for Image:Tu'u'gwar.jpg.) I find numerous other Crab, Abomination, etc pictures in Mob screenshots. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:04, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
Mob screenshots is an image category for mobs, and only mobs. Theres many other categories for everything in the game, but for something that doesn't fit anywhere else use {{C-blizz}}. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 20:08, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
Then... what is a mob? Tu'u'gwar sure seemed to be a mob to me. I did not think that the fact you spawned him for the quest made a difference. ps: thought I'd look up "cauldron lord" for another example of a quest-spawned critter (if memory serves), found Image:Skeleton Mage.jpg. And discovered that the number of uncategorized images (files) is much larger than I suspected. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:36, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

For some reason, I had thought you'd removed the 'mob screenshots' category from him. My bad.
Got an entirely different question for ya, though. I contend that Image:INV_Enchant_DustVision.png belongs in Category:WoW_Icons:_Inventory_Misc_Dust as well as Category:WoW_Icons:_Inventory_Enchant. (Several other candidates also suggest themselves among engineering and enchanting items.) Would you object to such an addition? If you approve, would you do it, or want me to? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:51, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
Generally the they should only go into the category that fits their name and I believe it would get too redundant to mix and match their categories based on what they are mostly used for... since blizzard tends to reuse the icons for several different things from enchanting items to mounts to talents. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 20:57, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
As far as I know, the names we use are artifacts of the authors, or perhaps of Thottbot's authors, as I note similar names there. Are the names from some authoritative source? Does having images (icons) in multiple categories affect certain autogenerated pages? Why IS 'redundant categories' a concern? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:49, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Changes to page (List of Mounts)

Thanks for the top bit...that is what I wanted. I had seen in before, but couldn't find the code..

Class in infobox

The purpose of the infobox is simply to list references that can be cited to particular sources. Using the ref tag would be preferred in the future over the use of simply (RPG) or (multiple). I noticed that Rolandius has recently been adding new classes marked with (?) and marking others as (deprecated) based on RPG game mechanic rules. It is not the purpose of the infobox to get into that kind of detail since it is a lore based infobox rather than game mechanics. References to game rules should be limited only to their related article for example "sorcerer" is a class in the Warcraft RPG, but not in the World of Warcraft RPG. That is noted in the article. There is no reason to repeat the info in every single article that may make reference to sorcerers. Completely speculatory (?) should be left out of infobox entirely. As noted earlier in this post, we should start using ref /ref to give specific citations rather than generic (RPG) marking.

If you could would you be willing to go over Rolandius edits to fix his mistake, and at least change things back to the generic (RPG) tag until specific citations can be made.

In addition I suggest that the RPG class template used on class pages should be split into sections specifically for the Warcraft RPG and specifically for the World of Warcraft RPG in order to better show the difference between the two. Perhaps even split into two seperate templates.Baggins (talk) 21:25, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

GG, the clean up process is going to be worse than I thought... Its scattered throughout races and characters...Baggins (talk) 00:22, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
It gets worse, he went even so far to completely replace cited information from specific source with non-specific or citeable information based on second game's rules... For example [[6]. This goes beyond the concept of "bold" and is just plain misleading.Baggins (talk) 00:32, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
I can't be sure but it seems he may have done this to 30 or more pages... This is going to be very difficult to track down and fix... I'm pretty sure this is goes way beyond simply adding new articles, appears to have been a decision made without at looking the consequences, its impact to wowwiki as a whole, and without permission. If someone did give him permission, they didn't keep track of him very well...Baggins (talk) 01:08, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Point of note, I didn't add the classes with a "(?)" after them, I only added the "(?)" part because I too was wondering if they were classes. Secondly, I didn't remove anything from the infoboxes, I just added "(deprecated)" which does not mean "do not ever use or else". Some of the articles that lacked infoboxes I mentioned the changes because the articles had zero mentions as if it never happened. Thirdly, I wouldn't be talking about "the clean up process is going to be worse than I thought" as I had to "clean up" a lot of your misleading information from many articles as there is much more out there. Because Warcraft: The Roleplaying Game refers to the series of books (see Wikipedia). It's not a single book (according to Wikipedia, at least). --g0urra[T҂C] 07:54, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
I was saying "World of Warcraft: The Roleplaying Game" is a title. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 09:53, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Just thought I'd let you know that there's already an existing category for images of book covers. I'll leave it up to you to decide which category to keep, though. --g0urra[T҂C] 08:03, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Quest help

I didn't think that the quest Amped for Revolt! existed, so I marked the page for potential deletion. Now that it has been confirmed to exist, could someone please tell me how to get that quest? I really want to do it because it looks really fun. Psduckie (talk) 21:54, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

You have to complete H [80] Green Technology first, and before that it's H [25-30] Volatility. See here for a diagram. --g0urra[T҂C] 22:20, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
Amped for Revolt! isn't in the diagram at all, and I completed H [80] Green Technology. The quest progression went directly to the dailies that are supposed to come after Amped for Revolt! Psduckie (talk) 22:59, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
Doesn't matter, point is the page has info whether it gets a {{removedfromgame}} template or not, it won't be deleted. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 01:21, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Why did you delete that pages!? The patch will be released on April 21 (see mmo-champion). Mars85 (talk)

Becoming an User

Hey, when you first come on a wiki, I mean like you make an account. You can't edit anything yet. How do you become an User then? I think I gotten an e-mail asking for confirming, but I can't find the option on another wiki. Metus (talk) 14:36, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Thought I'd ask something extra, as I had been trying to figure it out for a while. Under the Coins you get 'flavor'-text. I was trying to find a template that would let me get the same text, but without the item-... err... -thingy... It is different colored and added automatically the "'s, but I couldn't find such a template, so tried to make one myself, but it was not colored and added the flying dot in front of it (I'm not English, so sorry for my sucky English, I don't know the words for the item-window and the flying dot @_@;;). If you could help me, thank you so much! Metus (talk) 17:38, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, sorry. Still I don't know how to remove the dot.. - The User-thing is that I can't find in my Preference on another wiki to send an e-mail. Since I can't even leave messages or ask anything there, I tried asking here instead. :S In the hopes you would know how to get an e-mail for confirmation. Perhaps give me a link for this place, which I then just remove the http://www.wowwiki.com/ and change it to http://flyff-wiki.gpotato.com/index.php/ *shrugs* Oh well, I'll look further. Argent Tournament Grounds

Is there a template for the Argent Tournament Grounds' own subzones? Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 09:44, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

I don't believe so, should be merged into the Icecrown subzone template. Since it's part of icecrown. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 20:46, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Good place to get vehicle pointer screenshot?

I tried Wintergrasp, but since Horde controlled it and I don't know much about how it works, I couldn't find a siege vehicle to get a screenshot. I think one of my alts can get around to doing the mammoth riding quest in Borean Tundra, but if you know of any good place to get the screenshot which doesn't require me to spend 20,000g, I would appreciate the info. --Gengar orange 22x22.pngBeware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 11:36 AM PST 28 Apr 2009

You could enter Ulduar and start the event, then you could get a screenshot of the icon from the salvaged vehicles there without interruption. Or you could go to the agrent tourney, the mounts there use the same icon. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:16, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

My ears

I didn't touch the comments. All I did was remove the category. That is how it looks on my screen when I edit

!-- Mob for Alliance -->

!-- NPC for Horde -->

and then the categories are all below it without me touching them, using both "code view" and "visual view" and both "save page" and "preview". Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 07:32, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Oh... god I hate that visual look... ok, thanks for telling me, sorry I yelled. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 07:38, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
It took me awhile to understand what you were saying about "look at the comments", but now I see what you mean. Using "History", it does show it being changed but I didn't touch them, and like I said above, those comments are above the categories and not next to them on my screen. I had no idea what they referred to. I don't know what is going on, but the only sign that it changed is when I look at "History", but that is after the edit has been done, and so I don't know how I would correct it the next time it happens since on my screen the comments are seperate from the categories. I tried both "code view" and "visual view" unless it is my browser or something I don't know about. Both "views" on my computer show the categories seperate from the rest of the page sort of. In one type of view, you just hit the little "x" to remove a category. In the other view, you just remove that category manually. On both views though the comments are up in the article. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 07:45, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
I tried some different methods and I think I got it to look like other people would see it. I had to cut and paste the comments from the article into each category box manually. So pretty much on my computer, I have to make it "first set of brackets" Category:Karazhan mobs and then the comment before the "next set of brackets". If it is still wrong then just revert it. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 09:49, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Alright

I'll let you know if I need some help, but I don't think I'll be making many editions, since I actually don't play WoW,not to mention my suckish skills at Wiki editing.Eduardomsc (Talk) 04:35 ,4 May 2009(UTC)

Review

Are you reviewing the things being put on the list? It was added that Gourra deleted an NPC page I made like it is a bad thing. You told me it was okay to make those pages over here User:Rolandius/Mentor#Void Hound. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 06:59, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

A specific mob, thats exists in the game, yes... I figured that would be fine, so long as you make them well. But creating articles for npcs that don't exist, but existed in beta... which was basically one line and a stub... maybe I shouldn't have said anything and let you continue to make specific mob/npc pages on your userspace and ask for a move. I just figured, since they weren't about a large grp of things, just one npc/mob, that it would be a waste of time to create, have moved, cleaned up... You're not even using the npcbox template to help your cause. =/ Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 07:09, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
I was never told that mobs in Beta are not allowed on WoWWiki. I was reading the titans page and saw a red link, which Baggins made by the way, called Strand of the Ancients Battlemaster. All I did was make it into an article so it would not be a red link any longer and it gets used against me? Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 07:13, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
When I made the redlink I thought the mob existed... But since you did point out that it was a beta only thing... well I decided it was not very noteworty and removed the link from titans.Baggins (talk) 07:36, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
But before you did that, I was reading the titans page and saw that red link and made the article for it thinking it was a good thing I was doing. Gourra erased it and then you wrote that on the review page about what I did, a red link you created. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 07:39, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

At this point I'll apologize on the issue of you following a red link (although it technically proper procedure to link to mob articles). But you should in the future if you create a npc page, try to add the npcbox to it as well, and also give better citations as to the fact that it was "removed from game" or was "From the beta" with citations. You didn't even add any citations. gourra is more understanding if you take the time to add both citions and an npc box , he doesn't like mob stubs from what I can tell. I believe even coobra warned you above that you should have followed the procedure of using used the NPC boox, and that s your fualt only.Baggins (talk) 07:44, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

He erased the page pretty fast. I didn't have time to update it more quickly as I was going back and forth with other "matters" on WoWWiki as things tend to take hours it seems to resolve every time I make an edit. Like I said on the Mentor talk page, contrary to what you said/think on the talk page, this isn't my idea of fun. I am not going to make mob/npc pages or even edit on the main space any longer. I am sticking to my subpages where I don't have to argue with users for hours just because I made a legit article — which I was also told I was allowed to do. See you later, I am going home. Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 07:57, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

"to what you said/think on the talk page, this isn't my idea of fun."

Thanks for reading between the lines again, and missing the mark.... Oh I can assure you no one especially you is having fun. This is not that kind of "game"... This is serious.Baggins (talk) 08:11, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Hey there. :) I noticed today that you've marked the images I've uploaded under the fan fiction section as subject for possible deletion. Quest tracker at 3.1.2 undocumented changes

Hello,

I restored the change at the quest tracker again, but changed it form "wider" to "better wordwrap". Before the patch I often couldn't see, how much items I had found (maybe because it was hidden beyound the quest item), since the patch it is all fine again.

best regards Thomas

I've personally had no problems with it before or after the patch. The problem was likely from some other AddOn. --g0urra[T҂C] 11:25, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
It looks exactly the same to me as well... Some quest objectives are longer than others, so yea, you can see how many of certain objectives you have and need while at the same time others you can only see how many you have, but not how many you need. Even a few quest objectives you can't see either... which is why I prefer addons that track instead. Same reason I use outfitter still, over the new equipment manager, it's all about quality. Do you have some tool that reports discrepencies? Or are you clicking on every link of new pages? Some other method of discovering these flaws? Not that I mind the correction, necessarily. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:41, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I tend to click on new articles when I see them while looking at the recent changes, but sometimes I do get bored and go through the new page logs just to make sure things are either finished or stubbed.
