Icons

Hey, now that Legion brought back profession quests, would it be possible to update a template or something so that profession icons would show up next to quest names aka race and class icons in H IconSmall Orc Male.gifIconSmall Orc Female.gif Hunter [3] Etched Parchment? I previously asked Coobra to do that but something went wrong with his changes. --Mordecay (talk) 22:00, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

Probably, do you have an example quest? --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 22:10, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
N Blacksmithing [10-45] Strange New Ores is a blacksmithing quest. --Mordecay (talk) 22:15, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
Done. --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 22:36, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
Cool! Wow and they even link to profession pages. Kudos for u! --Mordecay (talk) 22:41, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

Here's another one. What about adding class and racial icons to questboxes to quests which are restricted to certain races and classes (aka using the |class= and |race= parameter), like missionboxes have the class icons next to the faction icons. - Campaign Fallen Steeds: Reins of Shadow? --Mordecay (talk) 12:30, 12 August 2017 (UTC)

It ruins the styling I think. Especially for quests with both race and class. Three icons right there is a bit much. --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:33, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
I see, okay then. --Mordecay (talk) 19:40, 12 August 2017 (UTC)

Broken redirects

Hey man, I think it's since you shuffled around all these user pages, but now the "Broken redirects" category is full of user and server pages. Can these safely be deleted or something? Xporc (talk) 13:16, 19 August 2017 (UTC)

Yep. --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 13:20, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
Okay, all cleaned up. Now next question: is it possible to use a bot to automatically add a category to all the pages in "Uncategorized pages" ending with "/Legacy"? Xporc (talk) 14:02, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
Yes.--PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 14:08, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
Thank ye my good sire! Xporc (talk) 20:25, 20 August 2017 (UTC)

Hemet & the Spring Balloon Festival

Hey. As far as I can see from the info on the Spring Balloon Festival, Hemet participates in the festival. Wouldn't it be alright to have a mention of that on his page? PeterWind (talk) 20:56, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

Absolutely, but it was just an empty section. Per Project:STUB empty/stubbed sections shouldn't exist. --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:57, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

Changes to Primal Hakkari Idol

Before 1.11.0, you needed to use items that dropped off bosses like  [Primal Hakkari Kossack]. You can see this by looking at this comment on Thotbot from back in June/July.

Primal Hakkari Idol was not added before 1.11.0 (Naxx) (Junkerd (talk) 19:00, 30 August 2017 (UTC))

Huh? Thottbot doesn't even work anymore... The idols were always separate from the armor pieces like the  [Primal Hakkari Kossack]. --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:04, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure I remember those dropping back when it was current content. Thottbot has been discontinued late last year. If you are basing the 1.11.0 off of Wowhead's notes, it should be said that wowhead is not entirely accurate on vanilla, as 1.11.0 is when Wowhead was originally launched, as I recall it. PeterWind (talk) 19:08, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, idols were used for leg/head enchants. --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:09, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
I had forgotten to link the screenshot: [1] I accessed an old save of Thottbot by using waybackmachine (Junkerd (talk) 19:12, 30 August 2017 (UTC))
That's really faint proof, man. I'll give it further review, though. --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:18, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
It's better proof than what one remembers. (Junkerd (talk) 19:20, 30 August 2017 (UTC))
The comment doesn't specifically say that the idol was introduced in 1.11 though. But then again.. Looking through early versions of the  [Primal Hakkari Idol] page. I'm not sure anymore. It's not how I remember it, but I could be wrong of course. PeterWind (talk) 19:23, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
Nothing in the patch notes about the idols being new, although it does say the "requirements have been changed to items found within Zul'Gurub". PeterWind (talk) 19:27, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
Based on this note, linking to the post titled 20/04 DM Librams for ZG - which I can't find in any history - it seems that yes, this is a 1.11 change. Sorry about the confusion. I'll revert. --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:29, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

Questbox template

Hey mate, I noticed a growing problematic trend among some of our quests. In {{Questbox}} there is a parameter "category", which automatically links to the zone of the same name and puts the quest in the same category as the text written in the template. However, for all "alternate universe" zones, the questbox template links to the wrong zone. For example in A [10-40] A Curse Upon the Woods the questbox links to Shadowmoon Valley when it should link to Shadowmoon Valley (alternate universe). The person who created the quest probably just left "Shadowmoon Valley" so the quest would be placed in the proper category. Every quest related to Shadowmoon Valley, Auchindoun, Nagrand and Hellfire Citadel is affected.

Would it be possible to add a new line in the questbox template to separate what is displayed in the questbox, so we can add rich links, and the category value? With the new parameter being optional or something. Xporc (talk) 09:25, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

Wouldn't it be easier/better to make the Category:Shadowmoon Valley (Outland) quests/Category:Shadowmoon Valley quests categories consistent with the Shadowmoon Valley (alternate universe)/Shadowmoon Valley pages? --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 13:28, 7 September 2017 (UTC)
Sure, that would pleasure my autism, if everyone agreed to. Xporc (talk) 13:34, 7 September 2017 (UTC)
Sounds like a vote might have to happen if mixed agreements, though categories should consist with the articles. Logic speaking. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 13:42, 7 September 2017 (UTC)
I have no objections. PeterWind (talk) 14:30, 7 September 2017 (UTC)
I updated the topic here. Xporc (talk) 14:32, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

Wowpedia in other languages

Many older pages have languages links to versions that no longer exists. The "In other languages" on the mainpage was updated a while back, removing some of the defunct wowpedia-language links. I think I saw you doing some changes to some russian pages the other day if I'm not mistaken. The Russian category link on Category:Teldrassil NPCs is acting up. Should we remove language links to dead pages, or leave them be, when they do not clutter the actual page? PeterWind (talk) 20:39, 12 September 2017 (UTC)

You can remove them, I tried to bot them all away but apparently I didn't get them all. --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:56, 12 September 2017 (UTC)
Well at least I'm randomly checking through the last 7000 edits of pcjbots and he seems not to have broken anything :p Xporc (talk) 21:14, 12 September 2017 (UTC)
I'll assume the same goes for other defunct language-branches? Removing them is fine? PeterWind (talk) 22:49, 12 September 2017 (UTC)
Like what? RU is the only one I'm aware of. --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:05, 12 September 2017 (UTC)
I was thinkinking any that isn't among the ones listed "Español, Français, Polski, Português, 한국어". Think I've seen a few pages with links to a hebrew one if I'm not mistaken. I don't remember if that page lead to an existing page. PeterWind (talk) 10:44, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, you'd remove them then. --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 11:39, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
Will do. PeterWind (talk) 14:58, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

"What links here" for images

While checking the "What links here" pages for images, is there a way to see if a pages link to the image through templates or directly? I was doing some cleaning and found a page using the File:Bc icon.gif. The page had it written as "[[File:Bc icon.gif|World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade|link=World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade]]" where a {{Bc-inline}} would be produce the same result, only with slightly different link text, and remove a lot of clutter. I was thinking, that if there was a way to see the direct links, that I might want to go through the icons for the various expansions somewhere down the line. PeterWind (talk) 16:04, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

Not directly. I can build the list by subtracting the list of pages that transclude the template from those that link to the file, which should get what you want (except for any pages that do both for some reason). Will take a bit of work - I'll let you know. --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 16:25, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

I'm not sure what happened, but from what I recall.. I think maintenance happened without notice (I was getting error 500 and error 512 when I tried to submit a page though not only on Wowpedia but other wikis on Gamepedia's network). What I noticed for Special:Version is to show 01:23, 26 September 2017, just after the error 500 / 512 from the result. And yes that, content tables, and stuff like {{Blackrock wings}} still works but doesn't look attractive whatsoever. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 10:26, 26 September 2017 (UTC)

Using your AjaxRC on another Gamepedia wiki

Hello. First, I want to thank you for that wonderful piece of code. I've used the Wikia version a lot.

I wanted to have the same ability to auto refresh a Gamepdia wiki I just started using, and contributing to, Neverwinter Wiki. I ended up copying your ajaxrc.js directly, modifying for readability, and it worked great, except for one visual issue: it shrinks the font size of the contents of #bodyContent.

I tried making some adjustments, incorporating parts of the Common.js variation, using a <div> instead of a <span>... I examined the page source and applied CSS rules of Neverwinter Wiki and Wowpedia here on Gamepedia, as well as one from Wikia, but I cannot figure out why this is happening. I discovered that in some cases, the font size is left untouched until the checkbox is checked, while other times the font size is immediately effected.

Can you help? The code is at neverwinter.gamepedia.com/User:TheDefiant604/common.js. Sorry, I can't link to it, as I'm being caught by an external links filter, and I don't know how to do internal links to other Gamepedia wikis, if it's even possible.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Thanks for adding the dual stats to all those items. However, can you make sure that you're also removing the single stats? Otherwise the item says it grants, for example, +18 agility/intellect and +18 intellect. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 19:03, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

Broken VideoLink replacement

There are a few issues with the EmbedVideo replacement for VideoLink:

  • The Burdens of Shaohao has a broken player (outputs escaped HTML).
  • The vlink-generated href attribute links to nowhere, breaking support for clients without JS, or if the corresponding vplayer tag is not present on the page.
  • The documentation should stop using the term deprecated for functionality the replacement simply never implemented (removed is more appropriate; deprecated is for things that you intend to remove in the future).

According to the Manual of Style, headers containing more words are not supposed to have capital letters unless it's a proper name which Travel Connections, External Links and Patch Changes are not. --Mordecay (talk) 23:58, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

Because that was limited to quests. And it didn't get many actual edits compared to the large set of pages it had to work with. So it's not worth it when the scope is even larger. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:03, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

Survey regarding the community guidelines for my master thesis

Hello Pcj,

my name is Robert Wintermeyer and I am currently conducting surveys in various social media as part of my master's thesis. The focus is on the community guidelines of the respective social platform and the acceptance by its users. Now I would like to include wowpedia in this survey. Since you are an admin in this community I wanted to contact you before I start to ask people for their participation. Therefore I have following questions:

1. I would need to include a link in my posts to the survey which is hosted on google forms, is there a possibility to activate the usage of links for me?

2. In different wikis I noticed that they prefer different approaches for my research. Would I be allowed to ask people for their participation using their User pages? Some sites preferred that I write into the discussion pages of articles like a notice-board or the guidelines.

If I'm missing something, please let me know

Thank you!

Kind regards,
Robert Wintermeyer--Rwinterm (talk) 08:18, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Patch Pages

I would like to add and update the Patch pages. My main question is this, on the list pages showing a list of Patches, do we include hotfixes or just patch number publishes.

As an example, do you only want the main launch of Patch 8.1.5 along with its initial & current build numbers OR each time the build number is updated. Currently, it looks like there have been about 8-9 hotfixes, updating the build number. Another suggestion could be to add a new column: Initial Build, Ending Build. Or something like that.

I have updated several of the pages on the WoWWiki patches section for the same info. My User ID on that site is Cnorthfield2000. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DragnusInferno (talk · contr).

Thanks. It took just under 6 days and I got not a single response till it was completed. Made me nervous but alls well I guess. Sraw531 (talk) 18:47, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
Apologies for the delay, the responsible parties have been chastised. Glad you stuck around to be helped. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:17, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
Reminds me of "The directors of the firm hired to continue the credits after the other people had been sacked, wish it to be known that they have just been sacked." - Monty Python Sraw531 (talk) 07:51, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

this is about wow classic realms on europe

Hi Pcj, just wanted to drop by and ask you if you had any plans to create a wow classic realm timeline for europe, like retail wow has, i thought it would be cool if classic also had, dates when realms were added and such, i thought i would ask you as you seem to be quite cool lol —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Xeexeegg (talk · contr).

Javascript

Hi, could you do a javascirpt for me, if possible, to display a link in search results - change the "About X results for SEARCHED THING" to be "About X results for SEARCHED THING" (basically add a link to it)? Thanks! --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 20:25, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

We are looking at implementing such a change at the platform level. If that doesn't take off then I'll look into it. --Pcj (talk) 10:31, 14 October 2020 (UTC)

Insource

Heya, before the migration, insource:something used to show results nicely, but now it doesn't seem to work as it does not display the word or number searched. Is it possible to get it fixed, or is there now another way to show it? --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 11:55, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

No, that is no longer working or going to work. --Pcj (talk) 13:35, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
