Tier set
Tier sets, often shortened to simply tier, are class-specific armor sets that traditionally drop in raids. Tier added since patch 9.2 can also be obtained by converting other equipment at a catalyst. These sets offer powerful set bonuses and a unique visual appearance for each class.
The related term raid tier describes a group of raids that drop loot around the same item level. Tier sets may be spread across different raids within the same raid tier; for example, the shoulders may drop in one raid and the chestpiece may drop in another.
List of tiers
Note: Raid tiers marked with an asterisk (*) had no actual armor sets. Instead, they had collections of armor that formed transmog sets—one for each armor type. They are included here for the sake of completeness.
Tier 21 is the last tier in the original run of sets, and there's no official numbering after that. For this reason, later tiers are numbered within their expansion instead.

- Many tier sets have 5 pieces that count toward their set bonus, plus some additional pieces that do not. These extras are referred to as "off-set" pieces among players.
