Narrative and walkthrough
- Entry
- General Draven says: It was too easy to breach the castle doors. Our former Master is daring us to venture deeper into his stronghold.
- The Accuser says: He knows time is against us. With every passing moment, the Jailer's power grows. The flow of anima into the Maw must be stopped.
- Prince Renathal says: Be on your guard, mortals. Denathrius has the advantage here. He will use all his guile to thwart us.
- Pre-Shriekwing
- Mudlump yells: Master! Intruders have arrived!
- Mudlump runs past the gates and Sire Denathrius appears from the mirror.
- Sire Denathrius says: Welcome! I have so been looking forward to your arrival. Let's see, who have we here?
- Sire Denathrius says: Our wayward Prince, of course. The deposed Accuser, ever so earnest. And our mutinous former general. Along with a contingent of mortal rabble eager to meet their end.
- Prince Renathal says: We tire of your preening, Denathrius! Come and face us!
- Sire Denathrius says: I seem to recall a similar bluster from you not so long ago, Renathal. We both know how that ended.
- Sire Denathrius says: It seems you failed to learn your lesson. Perhaps I was too lenient. I am, after all, known for my compassionate nature.
- Sire Denathrius says: Let us begin your atonement with a suitable challenge, shall we?
- Hargitas, Caramain, Moldovaak, and Sindrel drop off their pillars, then Shriekwing drops down from above.
- Post-Shriekwing
- The door to the north of the Grand Walk to Houndkeeper's Alley opens
- Prince Renathal says: The antechamber is ours! But I suspect Denathrius has retreated to his sanctum.
- General Draven says: There is a passage beyond the kennels that leads down into the castle's underpinnings. From there we can reach the anima stores and stem the flow into the Maw.
- The Accuser says: If we are to have any chance against Denathrius, we must deprive him of his most prized possessions. I know the path we must take to reach them.
Clear all the trash to the Kennels:
- General Draven says: The kennels house the Master's hunting pack. He keeps the beasts starved for flesh.
- General Draven says: Put an end to the Houndmaster's cruelty so we can advance to the lower levels of the castle.
- Huntsman Altimor yells: Release the hounds!
- Huntsman Altimor yells: I can smell your fear.
- Huntsman Altimor yells: Margore, to me!
- Post-Hunstman
- Huntsman Altimor yells: You are... the alpha... now...
- Draven runs through the northeast exit.
- The Accuser says: A fitting end to that wretch.
- General Draven says: The passage down is here, mortals.
- The Accuser says: The way ahead will be fraught with danger. But we must reach those anima stores!
Drop down the hole the Accuser and Draven are looking at to enter the Overgrown Oubliette. Clear the Rats of Unusual Size to reach Destroyer's Breach:
- General Draven says: A devourer? Here?! The largest of its kind I have seen!
- The Accuser says: The beast seeks to sate its endless hunger upon the stores of anima below.
- The Accuser yells: Dispatch this creature--before it grows even stronger!
- Post-Hungering Destroyer
- General Draven says: Well done, mortals! The anima stores lie ahead!
- Draven flies off to the west and the Accuser runs upstairs to the Purloined Stores to the southwest.
Defeat Dragost, Deplina, Fara, Kullan, and the Anima Crazed Workers to get Darkvein's attention:
- Lady Inerva Darkvein says: Accuser. You managed to escape my grasp, only to brazenly return to these halls alongside this ragged band of mortals. Pathetic.
- The Accuser ports to Darkvein.
- The Accuser says: Denathrius has betrayed Revendreth by unleashing this anima into the Maw. Surely even a sycophant like you can see that!
- Darkvein punts the Accuser away!
- Lady Inerva Darkvein says: What I see is a bold new future about to unfold. A future with no place for traitors like you!
- Post-Darkvein
- The Accuser says: We have stemmed the anima flow, but I fear the damage has already been done. We are left to salvage what remains for the sake of Revendreth.
- Lady Inerva Darkvein yells: Sire... I have... failed you...
- The Accuser yells: There is no time for regrets. The reign of Denathrius must be ended.
Exit east to Draven and follow him through the Concealed Passage to the south:
- General Draven says: Here, mortals. I know a passage that leads back to the antechamber.
- General Draven says: The stoneborn were permitted to use such routes to see to our Master's demands. The debaucheries I have witnessed...
Return to Shriekwing's arena, the Grand Walk, and take the south exit through the Grand Corridor and up the stairs to the Gallery. Defeat the Court Assassin to open the gate further south to the upper layer of the Halls of the Faithful. Clear all enemies in the room (including the stealthed Nathrian Assassin)s to continue:
- Prince Renathal says: Appalling! Our people starve outside the castle walls, yet these loyalists indulge their avarice.
- The Accuser says: As they dance and feast, the Jailer amasses an army to destroy the Shadowlands. The fools deserve their fate for believing the lies of Denathrius!
- General Draven says: Many valuable weapons adorn these halls. Let us liberate them from the grasp of these aristocrats.
- Renathal and Draven open the doors to the southeast and northeast respectively.
Take Renathal's door to the southeast clear the two Court Enforcers:
- Prince Renathal says: This mirror should prove useful for helping you move throughout the castle, mortals.
Defeat the enemies in the next room and Renathal will open a blood mirror that links to the Master's Vestibule. Don't take the mirror (unless needing to repair), but instead head UPSTAIRS to Pride's Prison, cutting a path through Executrix Ophelia to reach the Sun King's Salvation encounter.
- The Accuser says: Denathrius keeps his most potent souls in this chamber. He fuels their darkest instincts, forging them into weapons to turn upon his enemies.
- Kael'thas Sunstrider yells: Once I break these bonds, you will be first to burn!
- High Torturer Darithos yells: Wrath is your most potent sin, Sunstrider. It will serve us well.
- The Accuser says: This one's pride and arrogance are legendary. Come, let us deprive Denathrius of his prize.
- Post-Sun King
- The Accuser says: Kael'thas Sunstrider! You are free from the Sire's tyranny, but you cannot escape your own deeds. Come with me, and I will help you find atonement.
- Kael'thas Sunstrider says: I am tired of being used as a pawn by others. Will your "help" allow me to claim vengeance?
- The Accuser says: You have so much to learn.
- Prince Renathal says: Take this soul away and aid him, Accuser.
Return to the stairway, head down one flight of stairs and head north to Draven to the Spoils of Sin and Artificer Xy'mox:
- Artificer Xy'mox says: Interesting, fighting has drawn the guards away.
- Artificer Xy'mox says: Sire Denathrius's private collection. Gathered over eons from across the Shadowlands.
- Artificer Xy'mox says: Yet how do I test their authenticity?
Clear the trash:
- Prince Renathal says: These brokers are a greedy lot. Do not let such potent weapons fall into their hands!
Post-Xy'mox:
- Prince Renathal says: Greed. Truly one of the most malignant of all sins.
Head down the stairs to the Feast of Arrogance:
- Prince Renathal says: Come, mortals. It is time to rid Revendreth of a haughty band of nobles that stand between us and Denathrius.
Follow Renathal west and he'll open another mirror:
- Prince Renathal says: Another passage back to the antechamber lies this way.
- Prince Renathal says: You have done well so far, mortals, striking a blow to the efforts of Denathrius. But do not underestimate his power. His might is... considerable.
While clearing trash:
- Lord Stavros says: Thank you both for attending. The ball would not be as grand without you.
- Baroness Frieda says: Think nothing of it, darling. As long as the wine flows, you will have my attention.
- Castellan Niklaus says: I do not share your love for these frivolities. I prefer my gatherings on the battlefield.
- Baroness Frieda says: Oh, don't be such a bore. If you behave, perhaps I will let you skewer a few of the wait staff.
Used a ranged attack to pull any one of the three members of the Council of Blood. Only one at a time needs to be attacked, as the remaining bosses will regain health once one falls. Jump to clear the Dancing Fever, as it will kill after 30 seconds no matter what!
Post-encounter:
- Prince Renathal says: Watch them scatter! It sickens me how far some of my people have fallen.
Return to the Master's Vestibule and the Grand Walk (Shriekwing):
- Sire Denathrius says: After all my teachings, Renathal, still you reach beyond your station. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Such disappointment.
- Prince Renathal says: But you taught me well enough to dispatch so many of your underlings, "Master."
- Sire Denathrius says: True, you left considerable detritus in your wake. If you're so fond of wreckage, my lumbering friend here will happily oblige.
- Sludgefist yells: Who making dis ruckus?!
- Sludgefist yells: Nobody disturb master!
- Sire Denathrius says: No. See that they do not.
Post-Sludgefist:
- Sludgefist yells: Master... gonna be mad... at you...
- Renathal and party open the gate to the east.
- Prince Renathal says: We must continue our pursuit, mortals. Fortunately, this mirror does not seem beyond repair.
- Prince Renathal says: Be warned. Denathrius's most loyal guardians still stand between us and our quarry.
- They take the blood mirror.
Follow them to the Stone Legion Generals arena:
- General Draven yells: Incoming! Take cover!
- Prince Renathal yells: Taking... all my strength... to hold back... their onslaught!
- General Draven says: Kaal! Grashaal! Do not be blinded by misplaced loyalty! The bargain Denathrius has struck will destroy Revendreth!
- General Kaal says: You are a disgrace to our kind, Draven! If you will not serve, then you will fall!
- General Kaal yells: Stoneborn! Strike down these usurpers!
During the encounter, run any red anima orbs to Renathal.
Post-encounter:
- General Draven says: My kind are called from the stone to defend Revendreth. It sickens me to see our loyalty twisted by the one we once served.
- Prince Renathal says: The stoneborn were not the only ones manipulated and deceived, my friend. I daresay even the Arbiter herself has been made a pawn.
- Prince Renathal says: The time has come to dethrone our former Master. What we do next, we do for the sake of all the Shadowlands!
Enter Denathrius's room:
- General Draven yells: More loyalists! We must drive them back, my prince!
- Prince Renathal yells: You are the key to victory, mortals! Go, strike down the one who has betrayed us all!
- Sire Denathrius yells: Look, Remornia! These daring mortals have persevered through every obstacle put before them. It seems we have little choice left but to surrender.
- Remornia yells: I have a better idea, Master! Let me carve them up instead!
- Sire Denathrius yells: Hmm, now there's a thought... we could flay these petulant, small-minded creatures and use their bones to pave the path for our ascension. What to do, what to do...
- Remornia yells: Pleeeeeaaaase, Master! It's been so long since I cut into living flesh!
- Remornia yells: Let me skewer them! Slice them! Slash them! Vivisect them! Cut ribbons from their--
- Sire Denathrius yells: Pace yourself, Remornia. Rushing one's work is so... unflattering.
- Sire Denathrius yells: I shall assist our guests with their atonement. Once they have repented, I will permit you to rend their bodies and send their souls screaming into the Maw!
Post-encounter:
- Sire Denathrius yells: Impossible! I am... eternal...
- Remornia yells: This is not the end, Master! Let me preserve you!
- General Draven yells: The blade has drawn in his essence!
- Remornia yells: Zovaal shall restore you, Master! We will have vengeance!
- Prince Renathal yells: No. Denathrius will answer for his betrayal.
- Remornia yells: Treacherous Prince! I will skewer you! Slice you! Slash you! Vivisect you! Cut ribbons from your--
- Prince Renathal yells: We've all heard quite enough from you!
- General Draven says: If that sword truly holds the Sire's essence, I fear your spells alone cannot keep his power contained.
- Prince Renathal says: True. But I know something that can.
- Prince Renathal says: We will bring the blade to Sinfall. The naaru that the mortals rescued, Z'rali, has pledged to aid our cause.
- Prince Renathal says: For too long, Denathrius has used the Light as a weapon against our people in the Ember Ward. Now it will be used to bind him.
- General Draven says: A fitting fate for one so prideful. He will watch helplessly as we restore Revendreth and thwart the Jailer's schemes.
- Prince Renathal says: Yes, my friend. Together with these mortals, we will claim victory.
Renathal has gossip:
You and your cohort of allies have my eternal appreciation for your endeavors, Maw Walker.
Return me to the Grand Walk.
Notes and trivia
- Its early name was Revendreth Keep.[3]
- It is inspired by Dracula's castle.[1]
- If you look out the windows as you ascend the towers or once you've made it to the top-most level, you can see an instanced and not fully rendered version of Revendreth.
