Obliterate is a Frost death knight ability that allows the death knight to deal high damage. It is a staple in the arsenal of Frost death knights.

Patch changes

  • Dragonflight Hotfix (2023-11-28): Damage increased by 8%.
  • Dragonflight Hotfix (2023-07-31):
    • Damage is now increased by 20% in PvP combat (was 15%).
    • Damage is now increased by 75% when [Killing Machine] is not active in PvP combat (was 60%).
  • Dragonflight Patch 10.1.5 (2023-07-11):
    • Damage is now increased by 20% in PvP combat (was 8%).
    • Damage is now increased by an additional 60% when Killing Machine is not active in PvP combat.
  • Dragonflight Hotfix (2023-05-15): Obliterate damage increased by 5%.
  • Dragonflight Patch 10.1.0 (2023-05-02): Damage increased by 8% in PvP combat.
  • Dragonflight Patch 10.0.0 (2022-10-25): Now a row 2 Frost talent (was a level 14 Frost ability). Rank 2 removed.
  • Shadowlands Patch 9.0.2 (2020-11-17): Rank 2 added at level 52 – Increases damage done by 20%.
  • Shadowlands Patch 9.0.1 (2020-10-13): Now learned at level 14 (was 55). Can now be used with two-handed weapons.
  • Legion Patch 7.1.0 (2016-10-25): Damage increased by 20%.
  • Legion Hotfix (2016-09-23): Obliterate damage increased by 19%.
  • Legion Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): No longer has a chance to cause your next [Howling Blast] or [Icy Touch] to consume no runes. Damage increased by 170% (35% for each weapon). Level reduced from 58 to 55.
  • Warlords of Draenor Hotfix (2016-03-03): Now deals 10% less damage against another player.
  • Warlords of Draenor Patch 6.2.3 (2015-11-17): Damage has been increased by 10%.
  • Warlords of Draenor Hotfix (2015-06-29): Obliterate should now correctly deal full damage against other players in PvP combat.
  • Warlords of Draenor Hotfix (2015-06-25):
    • Frost Strike and Obliterate have been reduced to their pre-6.2 damage levels.
    • Obliterate once again deals full damage to players.
  • Warlords of Draenor Patch 6.2.0 (2015-06-23): Damage has increased by 20%, but deals only 80% of normal damage against player-controlled targets.
  • Warlords of Draenor Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14):
    • Now deals 25% more damage on both main and off-hand weapons, but no longer deals additional damage for each disease present on the target.
    • Damage has been increased by 30%.
  • Mists of Pandaria Patch 5.4.0 (2013-09-10): Now deals 250% weapon damage (up from 230% weapon damage).
  • Mists of Pandaria Patch 5.0.4 (2012-08-28): Now a level 58 Frost specialization ability (was a level 61 ability for all specs). Weapon damage increased from 150% to 230%. Bonus damage removed.
  • Cataclysm Patch 4.2.0 (2011-06-28): Base damage has been reduced to 150% weapon damage, down from 160%.
  • Cataclysm Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): No longer consumes diseases.
  • Wrath-Logo-Small.png Patch 3.3.0 (2009-12-08): This ability will no longer sometimes fail to do additional damage based on diseases on the target.
  • Wrath-Logo-Small.png Patch 3.1.0 (2009-04-14): Bonus damage for diseases now increases damage done by a percentage rather than a flat amount.
  • Wrath-Logo-Small.png Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): Added.
