The emperor is the current ruler of the Arathi Empire. Like all Arathi emperors, he receives and interprets prophetic visions from the Sacred Flame and commands his subjects to either fulfill or forestall their prophesied events in order to allow the Empire to flourish.[1]
More than a decade before the events of The War Within,[2] he received a vision of Light, battle, and victory for the Arathi.[1][3][4] He saw a holy land, Hallowfall, and a source of radiant light, the "Emperor's Vision",[1][3] in the form of a falling[5] or fallen star.[6] He assembled the bravest and strongest of the Empire into an expedition[4] to seek out Hallowfall,[1] fight in Renilash (the final battle between light and dark),[7] secure the Emperor's Vision, and return victorious to the Empire.[8][9] He knew the expedition might not return, but trusted that they would enact his will should they find his vision.[10] The expedition became stranded in Hallowfall under the light of the giant crystal Beledar, which the Arathi interpreted as the Emperor's Vision and the fulfillment of the prophesied star.[3][6] Anduin Wrynn believes that the prophecy that drew the Arathi to Hallowfall was in fact the Radiant Song.[11]
Although cut off from the Empire, the expedition remains loyal to the emperor,[12][13] but with the enemies they face in Hallowfall, some have pointed out that the emperor never foresaw the expedition's survival.[1] Prioress Murrpray of the Church of the Sacred Flame always preached the strength of the emperor's will.[14]
