History
After Zovaal the Jailer was killed in the Shadowlands, the Scourge remained a threat as the mightiest of the Scourge vied for supremacy, like vicious warlords in the wake of their king's death. One such warlord was the San'layn Vorath, who commanded his undead forces from within Deatholme against the Sin'dorei of Quel'Thalas. As Tranquillien was in danger of being overrun by his forces, Grand Magister Rommath, Aethas Sunreaver, and Lady Liadrin arrived with blood elven reinforcements.[1][2] Vorath attacked blood elven champions when they created wards around Tranquillien to protect it from the Scourge. Though he had fallen in battle, Vorath had devised a means to cheat his own death, and merely returned to the crystal array he had within Deatholme.[3]
Determined to stop an end to Vorath, Liadrin entrusted the champion with the [Forged Ranseur] and ordered them to venture to the Shadowlands and imbue it with by magic from Bastion and Maldraxxus. With the empowered ranseur in hand, the champion and Liadrin led the sin'dorei in an attack on the Scourge within the Dead Scar and Vorath arrived to confront them. Though killed and resurrected as before, Vorath became wary of ranseur.[4]
Vorath was ultimately confronted and killed within Deatholme, with the ranseur being used on his body to prevent his resurrection. However, Vorath rose as the Amalgam of Wrath, whose destruction finally killed the scourge warlord. With his death, the power of the ranseur was spent, his scourge forces began to scatter, and the blood elves celebrated their victory.[5][6]
