Carrion Fields
The Carrion Fields are a large area of Scourge-infested ruins in the eastern Dragonblight, directly under the shadow of Naxxramas. They consist of the ruins of Wintergarde Village[1][2] or Old Wintergarde,[3] formerly a large, thriving[4] human[5] village. When the Valiance Expedition arrived during the war against the Lich King, the villagers welcomed them in, and the latter built Wintergarde Keep in the nearby mountains.[4] After Lord Bolvar Fordragon led an Alliance assault against the Scourge at the Wrathgate, the Lich King retaliated by sending Naxxramas against Wintergarde. Kel'Thuzad's ground commander, Thel'zan the Duskbringer, destroyed the village,[6] turning it into a breeding ground for Scourge.[7] Thel'zan's most powerful forces invaded the Wintergarde Mausoleum beneath the village to raise its vast supply of corpses to participate in the siege of Wintergarde Keep.[2][8]
Besides humans, Wintergarde Village was also inhabited by dwarves, gnomes, and night elves prior to its destruction.[9] The Valiance Expedition refer to these villagers as "their" own citizens.[10][11][12] The expedition was unaware of the existence of the Wintergarde Mausoleum beneath the "old village" until it was revealed by the Scourged Mayor Godfrey.[2]
The Carrion Fields include farms, desolated fields, a lumber mill, an abandoned blacksmith building, and a ruined barracks. A twin pair of towers[3] marks the southwestern edge of the ruins past a small bridge. In the northeast is the farm of Thorson's Post.
Phasing
In the initial phase, there are Helpless Wintergarde Villagers running around in this area. Upon completion of
[15-30] Flight of the Wintergarde Defender, these villagers will phase out, having been airlifted to safety, and NPCs corresponding to them will instead phase in at the inn in Wintergarde Keep.
