Azeroth (also called continent of Stormwind)[7] is one of the three continents[8][9] that form the continent of Azeroth.[10][11][12][13] Though Azeroth was held for some time by the Old Horde during the Second War, it was mostly freed by the Alliance of Lordaeron.[14] Stormwind City stands firm on Azeroth's northwest coast and is the capital of both the Stormwind region and kingdom, and contain one of the few remaining great human cities.[15]

The Alliance forces of this continent are a hardy and bitter bunch — hardy because they are determined to remake their homes and scour the land of the Burning Legion and the Horde, but bitter because of the Alliance's new "home" many leagues across treacherous waters. While people concede that the Legion is not the fighting force it once was, the demons and undead remain a significant threat in Azeroth. Several regions are tainted by their slime, and Azeroth will not consider the undead defeated until the land is free of every last one.[16]

The only accessible passage from Azeroth to Khaz Modan is through Blackrock Spire and the Burning Steppes.[17]

Stranglethorn is the only region of Azeroth that seems completely untouched by the wars that shook the land.[18]

Notes and trivia

  1. ^ The continents of Lordaeron, Azeroth, and Khaz Modan — as part of the larger Eastern Kingdoms continent — would technically be referred to as subcontinents in real-world geographical/geological terminology. But the term isn't used in any published Warcraft source.
  • Fizzle Brassbolts refers to the Badlands as being in Azeroth, although technically, it should be in Khaz Modan.[19]
  • The Stormreaver clan section in the Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness manual says: "Domain: Stormwind, Azeroth and Balor, Azeroth".[20] This may get a bit confusing, but it tells that the Stormreaver have control over the domain of Stormwind from the continent of Azeroth, and Balor of the same continent of Azeroth.
