Before the Cataclysm, she had a post in Westfall spying on an abandoned Alliance watch tower taken over by the Defias Brotherhood. She was involved in helping rogues sent by Mathias Shaw infiltrate the tower and retrieve the journal of Klaven Mortwake.

Amber in the Jade Forest.

Amber was a member of an elite squad sent to Pandaria to search for the lost fleet and recover the White Pawn. Shortly after arrival her plane crashed in Jade Forest. She barely survived, rejoining the hunt for the White Pawn without hesitation despite her injuries. She followed the team to the north - to Serpent's Heart, Lair of the Jade Witch and Grookin Hill, where she provided cover fire for Sully. After finding Anduin, Amber accompanied Sully to take the prince into custody, however, Anduin mind controlled Sully and escaped.

Soon after, Alliance SI:7 agents and Jinyu began preparations for a battle against the Horde and the Forest Hozen. Amber and Jinyu were able to retake Slingtail Pits for the Alliance, allowing the pits to be used for combat training purposes.

For a time after the battle at Serpent's Heart, her fate was unknown and suspected to be missing in action. She did not follow her SI:7 colleagues to Kun-Lai Summit, and Admiral Taylor told adventurers "we lost some good people"[4] without mentioning specific names. However, according to a reliable source,[5] rumours of her demise have turned out to be greatly exaggerated.

Landfall

After the landing of Alliance forces on Krasarang Wilds and the construction of Lion's Landing, she can be found in the base directing the war effort for Sky Admiral Rogers and also helping defend Lion's Landing against the Horde.

Escalation

Amber and Sully discovered in Dun Morogh that Zandalari trolls threatened Ironforge. Before committing regular forces to the assault on Durotar, King Varian has sent SI:7 agents Amber Kearnen and Sully McLeary outside of Orgrimmar to scout out a naval landing site, learn the enemy’s weaknesses, and give Alliance landing forces any advantage they can find. After discovering a Horde civil war, and rescuing a captured troll named Zen'tabra, an Alliance champion was sent as an envoy and established an alliance with the Darkspear Rebellion. With a little deft political maneuvering, the Alliance champion was able to secure a potential Alliance beach landing and ensured that trolls and orcs kill one another up and down Durotar.

Siege of Orgrimmar

Amber and her comrades battled the Kor'kron soldiers in the Underhold during the Siege of Orgrimmar. She was also seen in Celestial Tournament on the Timeless Isle along with her comrades.

Amber found dead in the Dalaran sewers.

During the Burning Legion's third invasion on Azeroth, Amber traveled to the Broken Isles on an important mission until she was suddenly killed. She was found dead, with the knife still embedded in her back, in the sewers of Dalaran, clutching a  [SI:7 Missive].[6] The Uncrowned attempt to handle the situation before SI:7 finds out about it and links them to the murder. Lord Jorach Ravenholdt believed that the SI:7 was acting oddly and uses Amber's death as a motivator to have the Uncrowned scout them out.[6][7] The Uncrowned discovers that Amber's death was ordered by Master Mathias Shaw himself[8], but it turns out that was false, for which The Uncrowned continued to learn more of the myserty and evetually learned that it was actually Detheroc, who disguised himself as Shaw and had been the one responsible for ordering Kearnen's death, and the letter she held revealed that Shaw had been kidnapped and impersonated by the dreadlord.[3]

Though she would not live to see it, Amber's missive allowed the Uncrowned to rescue Shaw and return him to his rightful place in Stormwind.[9]

Amber Kearnen, disguised as an Aranakk and known as "Kearnen the Blade"

After her death, Amber's soul was sent to the infinite realm of Maldraxxus and served under the House of Many Eyes. Now known as "Kearnen the Blade", she managed to survive her house's destruction and can be found at the High Stand south of its ruins, disguised as an Aranakk.[53.3, 23.9] When the Shadowblade encountered her, she was informed that her message to the Uncrowned successfully got through. Kearnen thanked the Shadowblade and remarked that it was good to know her last efforts weren't in vain.
