The Dreadforge is a level 95 raid dungeon containing six bosses, along with an additional heroic mode only boss encounter. Together with Utgarde Catacombs and Karazhan: The Malevolence Rift, it forms the third raid tier of the Spider Kingdom Expansion.

Background

The iron races of Northrend were the creation of Loken, once a great leader and defender of Azeroth whose mind was stolen by dark powers. Loken drew upon the metallic blood of the Old Gods and used it within the creation forges of Ulduar to bring forth the iron dwarves, giants, and vrykul that made up his armies. Loken and his iron legions conquered the titan city of Ulduar and held them against all comers, until the might of the Alliance and the Horde, together with the Explorer's League, shattered Loken's hold and struck down his master, the Old God Yogg-Saron. In the wake of Yogg-Saron's fall, the iron legions that had been created from his blood fell into a kind of dormancy. Mimiron and his fellow Watchers locked away the iron races, sealing them in great chambers deep beneath Ulduar.

While most of the iron races remained locked within Ulduar, many iron dwarves had been sent far across Northrend by Loken in search of ancient power. These iron dwarves also fell into dormancy, but were recovered by agents serving Tyr, the missing Watcher of Ulduar who evaded Loken's initial attack. Tyr revived the iron dwarves using a refined saronite metal known as dread iron, re-naming them the dread iron dwarves and taking control of them. Under Tyr's direction, his dread iron dwarves have crafted an entire city out of refined saronite, shaped out of the rivers of the Old God's blood that flow in the hollows beneath the surface - Dreadstorm City.

Rising out of an underground sea of saronite, the foreboding walls of the dread iron dwarves' city shelter a new growing army. Tyr and his servants have constructed a dark reflection of the titan creation forges found in Ulduar, known as the Dreadforge. Powered by the dark blood of Yogg-Saron, the Dreadforge controls a tremendous amount of dark energy. Tyr has used it to swell the ranks of his army with numerous monsters armored in, and even forged from, dread iron.

The necropolis of Malykriss hovers above Dreadstorm City, awaiting Tyr's machinations. Xarosan fumes within, having fallen from the favor of his masters and forced into subservience to Tyr. Tyr's ultimate goal is to succeed where Xarosan failed - whereas Xarosan planned to tap the mystical energy of Dalaran to fuel the birth of the Old God's ultimate champion, Tyr will use the might of the Dreadforge.

Dungeon Journal

Hidden deep beneath the Storm Peaks is the foreboding city of the dread iron dwarves - Dreadstorm City. Shaped from the blood of Yogg-Saron, it has become a garrison for the dread iron dwarves and their allies, the Twilight Cult and the arach'layn. Lording over all is Tyr, the missing watcher of Ulduar. His soul tainted by the corruption of Yogg-Saron, Tyr has amassed a powerful force in the name of the Old Gods, and is prepared to take advantage of the recent failures of Xarosan and ingratiate himself to his masters.

At the heart of Dreadstorm City is the Dreadforge, an infernal device that harnesses the dark power of the blood of Yogg-Saron. With it Tyr will complete the design that Xarosan could not - he will usher into the world the ultimate champion of the Old Gods, one who will break open the Deep Void and release the legions trapped there to conquer all of Azeroth.

Encounters

The Warmachine

An engine of destruction, this construct is the dread iron dwarves' ultimate weapon. Infused with the thundering spirits of the iron dwarves that were slain in Ulduar, the Warmachine is no mere mechanism - it is a machine that seethes with hatred and malice for the order of the surface world races.

Dreadhide

A hideous abomination of flesh and iron, this mutant fiend was cast into the pits beneath the Dreadforge to die. Instead, it has grown ever larger and more powerful. Every fragment of Dreadhide's flesh seethes with corrupted life energies, and will not die even when severed from the monster's body.

The Mastersmiths

The Four Mastersmiths of the dread iron dwarves - Burilion, Tubulon, Great Typhanon, and Jerakon. Between them they command more power than a hurricane.

Prince Eneraan

An ancient lightning eidolon, twisted by corruption, is locked within the Dreadforge, bound in Titan-made stone and chains. His bonds are shattered by the dread iron dwarves, and his fury is unleashed upon their enemies.

Shog'Kathak, the Iron Faceless

One of the faceless ones who serve Yogg-Saron. The alien intelligence of the Old Gods expresses itself through their herald, who speaks to the dread iron dwarves and directs them in their efforts to shape the blood of Yogg-Saron into even more terrible weaponry. A lord of mechanisms and metal-working, Shog'Kathak has had plates of dread iron sealed to his own flesh.

Tyr, Watcher of Order

The missing watcher of Ulduar. Tyr departed from his seat amongst the watchers before Loken moved to capture them, and his whereabouts have been the source of much speculation. At last, the missing watcher is found - deep beneath the Storm Peaks, Tyr has led the dread iron dwarves in the creation of a terrible dark city, forged from the sea of Yogg-Saron's blood. Caught in the grip of Yogg-Saron's corruption even in the wake of the fiend's death, Tyr's new vision of order will threaten all of Azeroth.

The Dread Master

Heroic Mode Only - The true master of dread.
