In the refuse pits beneath the Dreadforge, a hideous life has grown, refusing to die and devouring all it encounters.

Dungeon Journal

A hideous abomination of flesh and iron, this mutant fiend was cast into the pits beneath the Dreadforge to die. Instead, it has grown ever larger and more powerful, incorporating malformed scraps of iron into its body. Every fragment of Dreadhide's flesh seethes with corrupted life energies, and will not die even when severed from the monster's body.

The Encounter

Phase One - Sinking Feeling...

  • Spell misc emotionsad.png Sinking Feeling... — The platform you are on is being pulled lower and lower into the iron sludge below. If it sinks beneath the surface of the slime, you're doomed.
  • Inv misc enggizmos 27.png Emergency Switch — The platform contains an emergency switch mechanism that will forcibly raise it high above the iron sludge below. Activating this switch will raise the platform by 75% for the first activation, 50% for the second, and 25% for the third. After three uses, it will become inactive.

Dreadhide's Head

Dreadhide's head and tendrils periodically emerge from the iron slime and attack. They cannot be targeted.

  • Spell shadow plaguecloud.png Death Breath — Dreadhide spews a column of deadly energies across the platform in a cone-shaped area of effect, dealing periodic shadow damage to anyone caught in it.
  • Spell shadow summonfelhunter.png Inhale — Dreadhide attempts to suck in all players, drawing them towards his mouth. Any players that are too close to his mouth when Inhale ends will be sucked into Dreadhide's mouth, suffering periodic physical damage ever second for 3 seconds. They are then spat out across the platform and are afflicted with Chewed Up and Spit Out.
    • Ability racial cannibalize.png Chewed Up and Spit Out — Target has been through a horrible ordeal, having been swallowed and spit out by Dreadhide. Damage taken increased by 50%. Armor reduced by 50%.
  • Spell priest voidtendrils.png Tendril Slam — One of Dreadhide's tendrils erupts from the slime. After a short time it will use Tendril Slam, dealing physical damage to all targets caught in the path of the attack.
  • Ability creature poison 01.png Spew Spawn — Dreadhide vomits up a horde of monstrous mutant spawn.

Dreadhide's Claw

Claws will periodically rise up from the slime below and make their way towards the platform in Approaching Stance. If they are not destroyed before reaching the platform, they will Grasp the platform. The longer a hand Grasps the platform, the lower it will be dragged into the iron slime. If a hand is reduced to 25% health while in Grasping Stance, it will be severed and adopt Severed Stance.

  • Spell nature natureswrath.png Approaching Stance — Highly vulnerable while approaching. Low defense and health.
    • Hurl Iron Slime — Deals splash damage, spawns several Iron Oozelings. Casting speed and number of Iron Oozelings increases as health drops.
  • Spell shadow fingerofdeath.png Grasping Stance — Regenerates all health when activated. Greatly increases health and improves defense.
    • Bleed Iron Slime — Constantly generating Iron Oozelings.
  • Ability warrior bloodsurge.png Severed Stance — Becomes mobile. Severing a hand deals 10% damage to Dreadhide.
    • Talon Rake — Attacks the target with deadly claws.
    • Dread Bolt — Hurls a bolt of destructive magical energy at the target.
    • Finger of Doom — Deals a high burst of shadow damage to the Claw's primary target. Increases damage taken from the next Finger of Doom by 100%.

Phase Two - Dreadhide

Reducing Dreadhide's health to 40% triggers phase two. Dreadhide drags the platform down 25% and flops onto the northern quarter, shattering it and becoming targetable.

Dreadhide's Abilities

  • Ability creature disease 02.png Certain Death Breath — Dreadhide will deal plague damage to all players every second if there is no one in melee range of him.
  • Ability devour.png Chew — Dreadhide chomps his current target and chews them for several seconds, dealing periodic bursts of melee damage. He will then spit his target across the platform, leaving them Chewed Up and Spit Out.
  • Spell shadow summonfelhunter.png Inhale — Any players that are too close to his mouth when Inhale ends will be sucked into Dreadhide's mouth, suffering periodic physical damage ever second for 3 seconds. They are then spat out across the platform and are afflicted with Chewed Up and Spit Out.

Spawn of Dreadhide

The followering creatures will be spawned by Dreadhide's Spew Spawn ability in the following groupings.

  • 10 Iron Oozelings, 3 Iron Horrors
  • 1 Dread Iron Mutate, 2 Iron Horror
  • 6 Iron Oozelings, 1 Dread Iron Mutate
  • Heroic Difficulty 1 Dread Iron Mutate, 2 Molten Horrors

Iron Oozeling

  • Solidify — Oozelings can gain defense and lose movement speed when they reach 25% health.
  • Enspined — Oozelings can grow spines, reflecting 25% of the damage done to them when they reach 25% health.
  • Liquefy — Oozelings can gain attack speed when they reach 25% health.
  • Volatile Reaction — Oozelings can gain the ability to explode and deal a burst of flame damage to anyone nearby when they reach 25% health.

Iron Horror

  • Iron Spine — Iron Horrors fire an Iron Spine at a random target, dealing a burst of melee damage and causing them to Bleed for periodic melee damage over time.
  • Iron Rain — Iron Horrors launches an arcing cloud of spines at a random target's location. Anyone at the location takes a burst of melee damage.

Dread Iron Mutate

  • Cleaving Strike — Hits the main target and up to three other targets for a high amount of physical damage, splitting the damage between all targets.
  • Slathering Strike  — Used on the mutate's primary target. Increases the damage the target takes. Stacking debuff.

Heroic Difficulty Molten Horror

  • Fire Bomb — Molten Horrors toss an arcing ball of flame at random locations, setting the area ablaze for a short time. Anyone standing in the flames takes periodic fire damage.
  • Meltdown — When reduced to 10% health, Molten Horrors become stunned for several explodes and then violently explode, dealing lethal flame damage to anyone within 15 yards.

Strategy

Heroic Difficulty Heroic Mode

  • Molten Horrors — Randomly emerging from Dreadhide's Spew Spawn ability.
  • Dreadhide's Tendrils use Tendril Slam multiple times instead of just once.
  • Severing one of Dreadhide's claws reduced Dreadhide's health by just 6% instead of 10%.
  • The Emergency Switch can also be used twice and it will only raise the platform 25% each time.

Achievement

  • Hand to Hand Combat - Defeat Dreadhide while a Severed Dreadhide Claw is still alive.
