Talinstrasz was a member of the red dragonflight who became fiercely loyal to Vyranoth and joined the Primalist cause.

As a whelp, Talinstrasz spent hours playing with Vyranoth in the Ruby Life Pools, alongside his sister Lailastrasza and their friends Atyrannus and Rygos. The siblings refused to hide during hide-and-seek games, afraid that the eyes in the rocks would steal them away from home again if they were left alone.[1]

Talinstrasz was among the drakes who incited conflict with the primal dragons in response to taunts regarding their ordered nature, but had begun to believe the primal dragons might have the right idea. He demanded answers about why his egg was ordered and why he was denied the ability to choose for himself from Alexstrasza, who could not tell him the truth and instead deflected by claiming only his parents could answer those questions—though she knew this to be a lie, for she knew every whelp who had been raised at the Ruby Life Pools and where they had come from.[2] He and the other drakes were punished for their parts in inciting conflict by being made to serve the ambassadors at Wyrmrest Temple for a season.

He was present at Wyrmrest Temple during Vyranoth's attack on it during the onset of the War of the Scaleborn, and after hearing her accusations that the dragonflights had stolen wild dragon eggs from their nests he followed her back to her lair; she attempted to drive him away at first, but was given pause when he told her he believed his egg had been stolen, and she recognized him as the whelp she had once played with when he introduced himself.[3] He spent two moons living with the Primal Incarnate and her adoptive family, learning about the world before the Aspects and about Nalikrona and Razviik's stolen clutches, before he returned to the Waking Shores.[4]

Talinstrasz gathered the drakes whom he believed had also been stolen from their true parents and attempted to preach the cause of the Primalists to them, but few listened. His sister insisted that what happened to them was a blessing that had elevated them far above what they would have been as primal dragons. The majority of the drakes he attempted to sway were unconvinced, but he succeeded at converting his close friends Sirigosa and Nolizdormu, as well as Azarian, Ellegos, and Ivarus. Together they disrupted the magical shield protecting the Broodlands from the Primalists' attacks, an act which led to their imprisonment in the dungeons beneath the Obsidian Citadel. While imprisoned he was frequently visited by his sister, who still had hope that he might change his ways. At one point he attempted to gnaw his own foreleg off.[5] After a hundred years of imprisonment, the Primalists mounted a jailbreak to liberate Talinstrasz and the other captive defectors.

After Vyranoth's imprisonment, he became Iridikron's lackey, as though he felt no true loyalty for the Incarnate he believed that Iridikron was his only hope to see Vyranoth freed from the Vault of the Incarnates.[6] As part of the preparations for the Battle of Harrowsdeep, Talinstrasz and his comrades helped the djaradin lure dragons away from Wyrmrest Temple to be taken hostage in Harrowsdeep as part of a gambit to keep Neltharion from collapsing the subterranean labyrinth on their heads. He discovered Lailastrasza was among those taken captive by one of his comrades, and though it pained him deeply he left her behind while she begged for his help.

Talinstrasz received a pardon for his crimes against the dragonflights as part of Cysanz and Alexstrasza's terms of peace, but did not return to the dragonflights. Instead, he took up residence in Vyranoth's empty lair among the Frozen Fangs. When Alexstrasza granted every dragon whose egg had been stolen from their nest and ordered against their will a boon, Lailastrasza's was to be taken to see her brother one last time to say goodbye to him, and Alexstrasza accompanied her on her journey to personally apologize to Talinstrasz for the harm she had caused him with her actions and allow him to make his request of her. He first asked for Vyranoth's freedom—which Alexstrasza refused—then asked for her to help him and Lailastrasza find their parents, to which Alexstrasza agreed.[7]

Notes

  • Lailastrasza felt that Talinstrasz spoke of Vyranoth with love and the same tenderness that one would use for a mother.[5]
