Harrowsdeep was the home of Iridikron 20,000 years ago, during and prior to the War of the Scaleborn. After Iridikron usurped control of the Primalists from Fyrakk, Harrowsdeep became the faction's center of power. The tunnels were dug out by Iridikron. Located beneath a towering mountain north of Dragonblight, the entrance to Harrowsdeep was a cave mouth at the base of the mountain encrusted in ice and snow. A massive sinkhole in the center of the entrance chamber led to a pool of water at the bottom, with a waterfall coming down the hole. From there, dark tunnels led further underground.[1] With his earth magic, Iridikron could change the tunnels' directions to make intruders wander lost.[2] Iridikron's war cavern within Harrowsdeep was a massive, dark chamber with a lake of magma and several islands of stone, as well as a central platform where Iridikron conducted his business.[3] The deepest and largest cavern of Harrowsdeep - a place that Iridikron never expected another besides him to see - dropped into a deep, black abyss, with the walls lined by basalt pillars and elementally-infused topaz crystals jutting from the ceiling. A floating island hung above the pit, orbited by floating rocks.[4]

Speculation

This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

It is possible that Harrowsdeep is the same cavern as Naz'anak: The Forgotten Depths beneath Icecrown. Both are north of Dragonblight, and Harrowsdeep's entrance hall—a vast pit emptying into a pool of water at the bottom—sounds similar to Naz'anak. However Naz'anak is not underneath a mountain like Harrowsdeep is, though the mountain may have been destroyed to make way for the Frozen Throne.
