Surge of Power is an Elemental shaman talent that causes [Earth Shock] to empower other specific shaman spells.

It is an exclusive choice node with [Aftershock].

Notes

  • [Flame Shock]: Surge of Power can spread Flame Shock to a target that already had an active Flame Shock on it rather than a nearby target with no Flame Shock, effectively wasting the proc.
  • [Frost Shock]: The freeze effect is not broken by damage. However, casting another [Earth Shock] on the frozen target will immediately break the effect. The freeze is a magic effect and can be dispelled.
  • [Lava Burst]: The cooldown reduction effect works with the [Storm Elemental] talent.
  • [Lightning Bolt]: The elemental overloads caused are in addition to any mastery procs.

Tips and tactics

  • Surge of Power is designed as primarily a single target talent, though the [Flame Shock] effect can be beneficial for cleave encounters. The [Lightning Bolt] effect provides the most damage out of the talent and should be prioritized over the other effects.
  • [Aftershock] allows for additional uptime on Surge of Power, but the buff does not stack. Casting two back-to-back Earth Shocks will waste a Surge of Power buff.
  • In heavy AoE encounters, Surge of Power is a weak talent. It does not trigger from [Earthquake], and should be avoided on encounters that make frequent use of the spell. Additionally, Surge of Power does not affect [Chain Lightning].
