The northern island.
The southern island.

The South Seas islands[1] were two islands situated to the southeast of Land's End Beach in Tanaris.

Until the release of Ahn'Qiraj, the islands were deserted and only had a  [Message in a Bottle] on the northern island. The message read "What are you dong[sic] here?". The bottle was removed in patch 1.8.0, though its shadow remained. The goblin and gnomish structures were added in patch 2.0.1. The islands were removed entirely from the game in patch 4.0.3a.

Description

The South Seas islands were separated from the mainland by deep water. It was impossible to get to these islands without a special ability or additional help, as fatigue would kill the player before reaching shallow water. The two islands were geographically similar. One of the islands was populated by Fire Rocs, hyenas, scorpions, as well as Southsea Freebooters. On the second island was a mound of wood and shovels, possibly denoting a buried treasure. It also contained a number of uninhabited gnomish and goblin structures and an abandoned goblin oil platform between the two islands.

These islands were involved in the quest N [60] Draconic for Dummies for acquiring  [The Scepter of the Shifting Sands]. Players on The Scepter of the Shifting Sands quest chain were able to get an optional quest named N [60] Love Song for Narain from Meridith the Mermaiden. After completing this quest, Meridith would grant the player a swim speed buff.

Alternatively, a player could reach the islands by using a combination of  [Swim Speed Potion], [Water Walking], [Levitate], [Aquatic Form], [Reincarnation], [Soulstone], [Blink], [Divine Shield], [Path of Frost], and  [Hook of the Master Angler]. It was also possible to heal through the fatigue to reach these islands. Players needed to move at approximately 120% walk speed (or 180% swim speed) to arrive without (or just barely) taking damage.
