Ruins of Mathystra
The Ruins of Mathystra are located in northern Darkshore, just past the Tower of Althalaxx. Mathystra used to be a night elven city before the Great Sundering, but it was utterly decimated by the destruction of the Well of Eternity, and has long since been abandoned by the night elves in favor of the smaller coastal villages further south.
The ruins contain scattered relics of the old Highborne, and young night elves sometimes attempt to search through Mathystra in search of these relics. Ghost Sabers can also be found here.
The ancient ruins were inhabited for a time by the Stormscale Naga, who aggressively guarded against any intrusions from outside sources. After the Shattering, Shatterspear trolls destroyed the nearby Tower of Althalaxx, and stationed themselves in the ruins, staging an attack to Lor'danel. They established the Shatterspear War Camp next to the ruins. Several night elves are now scouting the area to learn about the trolls' intentions and movements.
During the War of the Thorns, the area became a battlefield between the Horde and the night elves.
With the Battle for Darkshore, the Horde's actions drove night elf spirits to madness. It is now solely occupied by the spirits of the Highborne.[1]
NPCs

The area also contains Lor'danel Sentinels and the Nightsaber Riders who ferry adventurers between the ruins and Lor'danel or the Shatterspear Vale.
As a result of the conflict between the night elves and the trolls, Shatterspear Laborers and Shatterspear Overseers are located throughout the area, with the latter dropping [Overseer's Orders]. The ruins around [61.2, 20.5] descend into an area where Sheya Stormweaver floats above a pool of water, surrounded by Shatterspear Shaman.

Notes
- A ruined structure, identical to the entrance of Blackfathom Deeps, found here, served as the entrance to the dungeon until patch 0.12 during World of Warcraft's development. This is also seen on early maps of Kalimdor, which showed Blackfathom in northern Darkshore. The ruined structure's model is also named "old_blackfathom_facade" in the game files. One map with Blackfathom in Darkshore is shown in the gallery below; another appeared in the printed version of the World of Warcraft game manual.[2]
