Forsaken troopers consists of the freshly raised undead created by the necromantic powers of Sylvanas Windrunner's Val'kyr. The Forsaken Trooper serve as basic infantry and have been raised from the fallen humans on the battlefield. Most recently, this new army "recruited" from the peoples of Silverpine and Hillsbrad. Forsaken Troops replenish the whittling armies of the Forsaken, whose numbers cannot be compensated without an act of reproduction.

Undead, especially those who die in combat or under extreme stress and are raised soon after, enter into a violent, frenzied state. Undead in this state are easily manipulated and their rage is often directed at the foes of those who raised them. After the effects wear off, if the risen corpse has not been destroyed, they are given the same ultimatum that other Forsaken are offered: join the Dark Lady or return to the grave.[1] Presumably, this is what occurs during the Battle for Andorhal. The Forsaken slew Alliance Laborers[2] and Frightened Provincial Minutemen, raising them as Forsaken troopers and were able to use their "charmed" state to not only fight for those who killed them in life but also against their former allies.[3][4]

Wars for Lordaeron

Cataclysm This section concerns content related to Cataclysm.

Invasion of Gilneas

In the aftermath of the war against the Lich King, the Forsaken were ordered to move south into Gilneas because the Horde wanted a port in northern Lordaeron. Garrosh Hellscream initially spearheaded the invasion using the Forsaken as meatshields for orcs and taking the brunt of Gilneas' defenses. Lady Sylvanas Windrunner returned to take command of the invasion of Gilneas to preserve her people.[5]

In a meeting with Garrosh Hellscream (whom Sylvanas does not appear to think particularly highly of), Sylvanas reveals the newest allies of the Forsaken - the val'kyr, the ascended vrykul women who once served the Lich King. Sylvanas demonstrated their value by using them to raise dead human corpses of the people of Silverpine as Forsaken troopers. Sylvanas pointed out that this was her solution to the undead not being able to procreate and compensate for their casualties in war. Garrosh was not pleased because the Val'kyr reminded him of the Scourge. Even so, he could not deny their effectiveness. After an insulting exchange with the highly revolted Garrosh, High Warlord Cromush is dispensed to "guard" the Dark Lady and keep tabs on the Forsaken.[6]

New Forsaken Troopers at Forsaken High Command

New Troopers were first involved in the fights at Forsaken High Command, where they fight the rebel worgen. Those with Horde adventurers defeated and secured a part of Silverpine Forest. The next task was to get more troopers. The Val'kyr were deployed to Fenris Isle where the Horde slew Hillsbrad Refugees and raised them as more troopers for the Forsaken.[7] In response to the Forsaken's assault, the Hillsbrad refugees in Fenris Keep made a pact with the Gilneas Liberation Front and turned themselves into worgen, preventing the Val'kyr from raising them into undead.[8]

Veteran Forsaken Troopers are later deployed at the battle near Sepulcher. Unfortunately, many of their number fell after an ambush with the forces of the Bloodfang worgen while crossing Olsen's Farthing, and Sylvanas Windrunner sends adventurers to fetch their insignias in order to honor their sacrifice. There was also a group of level 80 Veteran Forsaken Troopers under the command of Master Forteski that was sent by Sylvanas to corner and crush the worgen leaders of the Gilneas Liberation Front-- Darius Crowley, and Ivar Bloodfang of the Bloodfang pack-- in the Deep Elem Mine. However, they discovered that it was a trap and all but the Horde adventurer survived the ambush.[9]

Forsaken Troopers can be found fighting mainly in Silverpine. In Gilneas, elite Forsaken Vanguards are being led by Commander Onslaught but after they lose to rebel worgen, they withdrew to the Forsaken Front, which had gathered Troopers, sea dogs, Forsaken mages, catapults and more in a final battle at Silverpine.

Ultimately, they were able to coerce a retreat from the Gilneas Liberation Front by threatening to turn a captured Lorna Crowley into an undead subservient to Sylvanas. The peace of victory did not last long as the Forsaken were betrayed by their own agents, Lord Godfrey, Baron Ashbury, and Lord Walden.[10] Deathstalker Commander Belmont would later lead Horde adventurers and Forsaken troopers to Shadowfang Keep to slay the traitors.

Battle for Andorhal

Forsaken Troopers raised from militia

In the Battle for Andorhal, the Alliance and Forsaken began efforts to claim the war-torn city for their respective faction, though they still had to wrestle it from the control of the occupying Scourge. The leader of the Forsaken forces was Koltira Deathweaver, and he preferred to focus on the Scourge first before fighting with the Alliance. His non-aggressive tactics against the Alliance and friendship with the Alliance general Thassarian, resulted in honorable combat and a temporary ceasefire between the Alliance and the Horde. The Scourge was wiped out from Andorhal by the combined efforts of the Alliance and the Horde, but there were some in the Forsaken who disapproved of Koltira's leadership. Sylvanas, under the guise of Lindsay Ravensun, took advantage of the situation, and called her Val'kyr into battle.

Frustrated with how Koltira was conducting the battle, Sylvanas had the Val'kyr deploy under the leadership of a Horde adventurer and together, they created new Forsaken Troopers from slain Alliance laborers.[11] The Horde adventurer personally led the training of these new troopers to supplement the Forsaken forces.[12] Together with the Andorhal Deathguards, they easily overpowered the Alliance by slaying and reanimating the Alliance militia[13] to reinforce their numbers in Andorhal.

With Andorhal claimed for the Forsaken, Koltira Deathweaver was imprisoned in the Undercity, where he was punished for his compassionate conduct during the Battle for Andorhal.
