Deceased mobs

Heya, I'm not sure if putting "deceased" to majority of named quest mob or raid bosses is the correct way to go. While it definitely makes sense because there's a quest that asks for someone's head, for example, such quests in the Classic Barrens and the Wetlands were never reflected in lore, and some goblins and humans in those zones are still alive in Cata. How Blizzard tend to work with NPC death is that they need to confirm in an additional / latter source. For example, when UVG came out it, confirmed the death of two naga in Zangarmarsh and only then they were given the deceased tag with the source provided on their pages here. That's why named mobs, in general, don't have the deceased tag, as you can see. There are of course exceptions, especially in the newest expansions where the story progresses more dynamically I guess. However, I suspect you went by the tables in the Scarlet Crusade and Cult of the Damned pages where they are tagged as deceased, which honestly, after giving it a thought, may be misleading in respect to the reason they were never given deceased tag in their infoboxes. What are your thoughts? And other editors? --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 11:51, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

Hello, thank you for your feedback! After reading, I thought about it, indeed your guess is the correct one, I arrived a little while ago and after having observed a lot of your work on the wikipedia I wanted to learn how to do the same and help the community. I had actually observed the scarlet page, and by observing the death notices and the quests that asked to kill the said NPCs / bosses, I took the initiative to do the same on other pages. I never received any feedback, not even after corrections from other users on other elements of the page after i went to change status, but now i understand. What should I do ? Should I correct my mistakes by removing all the death notices I have placed ? Or just stop and leave as it ? WardsJames (talk) 01:08, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
Understood. This comment sparked an idea to open the discussion. No worries, as on one hand, it makes sense, and by all means, they should be dead if quests ask to kill them, but Blizz tend to bring them back or, as in some Cata cases, not remove them and ignore quests. I'm not entirely sure either what to do next; it's not entirely incorrect, but I guess it would be better to have an additional source confirming their death in story. IMO, it should be enough to have Killable when there is not an additional quest / source confirming their death. Also, if they are tagged as deceased, they probably need the Deceased characters category. For now, lets wait for others to give their thoughts. --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 13:03, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
I don't think we need to go back and remove all the "Deceased" notes that have already been added, since it's not a huge deal, but IMO mobs (including quest mobs and bosses) should just be tagged as Killable unless there's another source that confirms that they're canonically dead. --IconSmall TrollDeathKnight Male.gif DeludedTroll (talkcontribs) 15:50, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
Mordecay explained what I think, so that's that :D But to add something, I'd guess there's no need to revert them except important people which would be preferable to be left ambiguous. --Ryon21 (talk) 17:03, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for your feedback, I took the opportunity to correct a large part of the pages that I had edited, especially in the Scarlet Crusade, the Twilight's Hammer and alors the Cult of the Damned after seeing Morderio's editing requests on the status ! Uncrowned

Heya, nice work on the Uncrowned page. There is an unfinished work on summarizing the story of Legion Class Campaigns, and those that were done were written on their own pages - Tirisgarde Campaign, Valarjar Campaign, Council of the Black Harvest Campaign, Death Knight Campaign. Their organization pages like Tirisgarde and Council of the Black Harvest have empty sections with only links to the campaign page, or in the case of Valarjar and Knights of the Ebon Blade there are shortened versions of the summary while also having a link on top to the Campaign page. Now looking at the Uncrowned page, the summary looks like a good fit for a Rogue Campaign page. Would you agree to move the content from the Uncrowned page and create the Rogue Campaign? --Morderi (talk) 15:38, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Hello Morderi, thank you for your return, i really appreciate.

To answer your question, yes, don't worry, I actually intended to take care of the rogue's campaign summary as it's already the case of the Tirisgarde's campaign for example, currently I have only done on the Uncrowned page a summary in order to present the order and their major actions during the invasion, on the campaign page I would try to be much more specific, with more quotes for example. My goal actually is to provide a summary for those who just want an overview of the order on his own page, and on the other side a very very complete summary on the campain page (I will obviously add a redirect to the full campaign on the Uncrowned page).WardsJames (talk) 15:50, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Ah, okay! --Morderi (talk) 16:08, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

EA question

Heya, I remember you having Exploring Azeroth, so on the side of the page 68 (Stromgarde Keep entry) there's Flynn's comment, but it is blurred. A tried looking at it and managed to get only some words from it. Could you double-check your version and see what words you can see? Thx! --Morderi (talk) 13:31, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi ! Yes I have it too, here is what he wrote in my French version of the book:

"Honnêtement, tout ça - La mort, la non-mort, les fantômes, les tombes -, ça me refile des cauchemars, ça et celui où (Note: il y avait ici deux autres mots, qui furent maculés d'encre, près de la tâche, Flynn écrit:) laissez tomber." Which translates (approximately, I'm not the most gifted translator) into English like this: "Honestly, all this - death, the undead, ghosts, graves - gives me nightmares, this and the one where (Note: there were two other words here, which were smeared with ink, next to the stain, Flynn writes:) forget it." Hoping that this can help you, don't hesitate to come back to see me if you need more confirmations! WardsJames (talk) 13:52, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Yea, a meant the words smeared with ink. What I can see there is the middle part of the text: "... of words, have been written and blotted out. Near... " There is something before and after this part. The ink at the beginning is too much, so I thought that part is not meant to be read, but in the final part the words are kinda there, but I can't really say what that is. I see it's so meta. Now, I'm finally done with the book :-D --Morderi (talk) 14:08, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
It will have been long, but at least it's finally over, really fun to read and lots of useful information for updating old pages, can't wait to see the one on Kalimdor ^^ WardsJames (talk) 14:30, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
Agreed! --Morderi (talk) 14:35, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Human culture

... the content you have been adding... is so good! Personally, I like those ideas and the details you find are incredible (like the gallows bit). --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 22:42, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

Ah, I See You're a Man of Culture As Well ! I am delighted to know that you like it, these are really interesting topics to do research, in order to give a more political, cultural and religious depth to the different societies of Azeroth. In roleplay these are very important notions, especially since I play a paladin, so the notions of blasphemy and heresy are very useful to apply well. Ah, and for the subject of the gallows, it was really cool I admit, sinister but cool ! WardsJames (talk) 22:49, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

Source error

Heya, which chapter is page 52? --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 19:21, 20 June 2021 (UTC)

My bad, i'm an idiot... the source is from Tides of War pg.52 chapter 4 and not from CoH, i'm sorry, i made a mistake in my notes :d WardsJames (talk) 19:57, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
You dared to make a mistake?! How dare you! /jk :-P --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 19:51, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
Now that should be good, thank you for warning me of this error x) WardsJames (talk) 19:57, 20 June 2021 (UTC)

Stalvan theory

Hey WardsJames, I saw you removed my speculation on the timeline of Stalvan Mistmantle's story. I was wondering whether that was purely because of the in-npc level references or because of some other reason. As, even without the level-is-equal-to-age theory, the events would line up between year 15 and 18 according to Chronicle Volume 3, pages 29-37, supporting the theory as well, such as the riots of the Stonemasons and their retreat into Moonbrook and Westfall, Kel'thuzad and his necromancy who is also found in the same Old Hillsbrad as Stalvan and Thrall who would escape at that very moment. Maybe I was not clear enough in my text that the speculation was not solely based on his character level, but moreso that the level reinforced the information in-game and in chronicle. GamerShay

Good evening, and merry christmas to you. Now, yes, I'm the one who removed your speculation from Stalvan's page and I did it for two reasons.

First, it was really too long, and we were more in the theory than the speculation, which must be short, concise, with references, sources, and sometimes links to other pages to tie it all together. And then, the idea of levels is interesting, but it is certainly a question of coincidence, the levels can change frequently depending on the extensions, so it is not a safe bet, especially if we want to speculate and make links with the lore which is just as subject to changes from one book to another. Now you can always put back your speculation, it's your right, but I would repeat exactly what I said here, in order to object on the talk section of Stalvan's page. In my opinion, you should rework this speculation, to be more short, consice, with the references and sources, and without the level system as a reference. WardsJames (talk) 19:12, 24 December 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply! Merry Christmas to you as well. Thanks for the feedback you offered here. I think I might have taken the levels as the main evidence in my original text while I intended to use it as the cherry on the cake. I'll leave it as is for now as I work on my theory. I remain convinced that his level range before the level squish was not a coincidence. Wishing happy holidays and a happy new year to you! GamerShay

Wolfcult

Heya, just to explain, while the book does say that Arugal was killed, it does not mention, in any capacity, his lieutenants. I'm thinking it is the same case as when Chronicle or Exploring Azeroth mention that a place was raided, we did not tag every boss of said place as Deceased, only those that are directly described. --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 18:15, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

Good evening and happy new year! So about the lieutenants, you are totally right. In the case of the quest, we have to kill everyone in the tower, so i was thinking that the quest was make lore and canon by the book. But now, as you said, it's clearly better if we let them as "Killable", until one day they are mentionned as really dead (who knows ?). Sorry for my mistakes, and thanks for the corrections! WardsJames (talk) 18:22, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
Happy new year to you too! I mean, you are not wrong, they should totally be dead! :D But Blizzard is not very good with such details sometimes... Nevertheless, I think it would be a bit odd to have the book referencing them as dead, and then having the book not mentioning them specifically at all. Also, they are not all in the tower, they are all over the Bloodmoon Isle. Thinking about it some more, how about this wording? --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 18:39, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, Blizzard is really terrible to make things "dead dead", so i understand the policy of Wowpedia to note them as "Killable". For the wording, I think I understood the meaning given, so I allowed myself to just change the way of saying it, do not hesitate to change it again if you wish!WardsJames (talk) 20:04, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

W3 paladins

Hello, I'm looking at the Paladin unit in the Reforged World Editor, but the names Geros Ironblade and Sten Azureshield are not there. Looks like they were used in the Crusader unit. Where did you see them on the Paladin unit? --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 18:58, 18 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi, that's exactly what I was thinking after i learned about it. I saw that they were mentioned on the "Crusader" page, so I had my doubts, then after doing a google search I discovered that they were mentioned as paladins usable in the editor, not just by one person, but by several (exemple: https://www.reddit.com/r/warcraft3/comments/eewtxn/list_of_all_the_races_tavern_heroes_names_from/), so I thought this was a reforged addition. If I had known that you had the editor, I would have gone through you, besides I will do it in the future, it's good to know. In any case, I find it strange that several people would have been wrong, but if you say that this is indeed not the case, I trust you and I apologize for my mistakes. WardsJames (talk) 20:00, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
Sure thing! :D
Also tried in a test map to be sure placing 50 Paladins, but Geros and Sten didn't appear. Not among the Campaign paladins either. The internet mentions are sus, tho, but I suspect it could be just a mix-up from the Crusader alpha unit. --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 23:08, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
I see, in this case, can you please remove the two redirection page that i created ? I will correct my change on the w3 paladin's page! WardsJames (talk) 01:05, 19 November 2022 (UTC)

Zereth names

Not True, a Mop in Zereth Mortis mentions those installations. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kenji1987 (talk · contr).

If you have a source to confirm, feel free to mention it here. On Wowpedia, it is important to source your information in order to avoid headcanon and fanfic on the pages. It is therefore important to read the instruction pages to learn about writing methodologies to avoid problems and conflicts of edits. In my case, I think I know what source you are talking about, we do have the mention of the various cosmological forces in the "language of the First Ones", but not directly about the Zereth. It is obvious (in my opinion) that the Zereth will be named so, especially with "Zereth Ordus" in Dragonflight, but for the moment it was decided to avoid rushing,as the teams of the lore of Wow can always change their minds until we learn more about the other Zereth. For now, do not hesitate to follow my advices, and please avoid changing the "Magic" page for the moment, this one will be updated soon enough, do not worry about it. WardsJames (talk) 22:36, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
Fine, if that's how you want it. I was just trying to help since those were mentioned by one of the NPC Automatons in Zereth Mortis. They specifically mentions Lumen, Tumult, Vitae, Umbra, Ordus and Mortis. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kenji1987 (talk · contr).

SW/BK lists

Heya, I noticed you changed the sentence on List of Sunwalker paladins from "tauren paladin Garrison followers and are likely members of the Sunwalker order" to "are members of the Sunwalker order". You also added the Sunwalkers affiliation to NPCbox, but did not add the category. There are two tauren paladin followers who do have the Sunwalker category. Was not adding the category intentional or just forgot? Also, do you think the sentence on List of Blood Knight paladins with "likely" should get the same treatment as the Sunwalker edit? Several months ago, blood elf paladin followers had the Blood Knights category removed. To me, it seems blood elf paladins would be Blood Knights, should we put them back to Blood Knights? --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 17:14, 1 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello! Yes i changed it because at this point... well there is only one order of paladin tauren, the same who formed them all since Cataclysm. Also yes, i'm going to update the blood knights later, don't worry. Oh and about "but did not add the category", sorry my bad, i forgot :d (EDIT: i updated them!) Moving pages

Hi, please don't remove content and copy paste it to another page. It needs to be moved via the move button in order to move the page history as well. If there's a redirect preventing the move, it needs to be removed by an admin. There's an option of surpassing the redirect somehow :-D by changing the links first, IIRC?, then hitting the move button. --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 14:34, 9 September 2023 (UTC)

Oh my bad, sorry, I hadn't thought about the history part :d I'll be more careful next time, and for now I'll continue with the pages that don't have redirection issues. Thanks for your advice and sorry for the inconvenience! WardsJames (talk) 15:06, 9 September 2023 (UTC)

Gilneas faction

Heya, what is the reason for changing the reputation faction to a lore page in NPC pages, like the Gilneas (faction) to Gilneas (kingdom)? --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 20:06, 2 February 2024 (UTC)

Heya, should I go back to my edits and put Gilneas (faction)? I wasn't careful when copying and pasting, sorry if it causes problems, I can take care of it quickly if necessary. ClassIcon paladin.png Wards (talk) 21:09, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
UPDATE --> Sorry for the inconvenience, I put Gilneas (faction) back on all the pages where I had removed it. ClassIcon paladin.png Wards (talk) 21:14, 2 February 2024 (UTC)

Response to message

I know you have sent me messages, but somehow its not turning up on my talk page. It's not you, it's me. Am I doing something wrong already? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by RealmLord123 (talk · contr).

Well, I'm not sure what you're talking about, but know that you haven't done anything in particular that would lead me to come and warn you on your talkpage. You can rest assured! ClassIcon paladin.png Wards (talk) 00:36, 12 March 2024 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll try to keep what I've been currently doing as best as I can. At least I managed to get the Signature thing done right thanks to Surafbrov. Now I just need to upload relvant images without screwing that up after my image block has expired. (RealmLord123 (talk) 01:27, 12 March 2024 (UTC))
