Mob articles/PreloadBT

Is there a use for this page? Help:Mob articles/PreloadBT It looked like it was created in error, but I wanted to make sure before I marked it for deletion. -- Mordsith - (talk|contr) 19:22, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Actually it looks like you created that and Help:NPC articles/PreloadBT when populating the zone categories? In that case my question is whether or not you are done with them as they are showing up in Category:Borean Tundra mobs and NPCs. Seems like it was a smart way to populate the categories very quickly. =) -- Mordsith - (talk|contr) 19:37, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Yah, it was what I used on my private testwiki to quickly create pages. Must've missed that one in the mass-import the day the NDA got lifted. I sd'd it since it didn't need to exist anyway. Thanks for finding it! --k_d3 21:00, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Macro API

I've seen you around the UI forums so I figured you'd be a good admin to help with this issue. I wanted to expand the documentation of the Holy Writ to include Macro commands, since they are becoming more integral in UI development, and there's just really no clearly defined, well-written documentation on it. I created the section Macro API to help with this, and it follows the same page layout as the API pages, but it seems no one is monitoring the Interface Customization portal's discussion page. I would like to request it be added there. Thanks for looking into this. --DrDoom (talk) 15:03, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Feel free. Good work with the macro command pages, by the way. Those needed to be added a long time ago. >.> --k_d3 19:55, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Zone NPCs pages

Heya, with intentions of adding to the WOTLK zone npcs pages, I was thinking to put them in the format of other zones on the wiki, such as Grizzly Hills NPCs. However, I see that you have already done much work on these pages and they are organized by location rather than by function, which also has its merits. What do you think, should I just leave it, change to the other format, or maybe have both? The pages in question are Dragonblight NPCs, Howling Fjord NPCs, Borean Tundra NPCs and Storm Peaks NPCs. ---- Varghedin.jpg Varghedin  talk / contribs 07:30, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Those pages (at least HF+BT+DB) were originally on my testwiki back in alpha just so I had a quick-reference of all the NPCs in an subzone to make sure I had screencaps for them. ...not that I had screencaps for all of them... Feel free to refactor those articles so they're keeping with the style of the rest of the wiki.
Though, to be honest, I'd be most happy if some location-based info was on the majority of the pages, not just my subset. It does provide more logical breaks in the massive list of NPCs (like, say Shadowmoon Valley NPCs). But feel free either way. I'm kinda taking a wikibreak right now to get caught up with work, so it's not a big deal at present. --k_d3 19:33, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
Ok, I will change it to the other style for now and then maybe think about a way to incorporate locations into it afterwards. To avoid having to repeat the same locations across npc types, it's possible a sortable table might be best in the style of Teldrassil quests, but that will be quite an undertaking to perform on all those pages. Anyways thanks for coming back to me on this one, and good luck with your workload :) ---- Varghedin.jpg Varghedin  talk / contribs 06:44, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Template

Unlike many of the Naxx bosses, who's dedicated article lists a strategy, the article Malygos does not. Instead its relegated to Malygos (tactics) which is linked at the top. However, if you go to Eye of Eternity, Malygos appears many times on the page: once in the body and 2 times in templates. Each one of those Malygos links go somewhere different. I'm trying to make it less confusing. Im using the Naxx boss articles as my comparison (the ones which readers are likely to have read before and become accustom to) which don't have the separation of tactics articles and lore articles all titled the same thing. And while this may be 'the way things are done' doesn't mean improvements are reverted on site or open to discussion. Mkdwtalk 08:51, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

We only really separate the lore from tactics on bosses that actually have lore. Not bosses that were created just in time for Naxx to get patched in. That's why only a few (three!) of the Naxx bosses have separate tactics pages.
If the EoE article is pointing to Malygos instead of Malygos (tactics), fix that article instead. --k_d3 22:24, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Today I added the template Transclude to all the Achievement sub pages that are accessed thru the ajaxsub template - But I noticed that the Tranclude tag was showing up on the pages when viewed thru Ajax and also noticed that some of the pages had the bc-section and wotlk-section tag when I was editing them but that tag did not show up on thte ajax view - so after a closer look I see that they hid the sections from ajax with <div class="ajaxHide">Main Page</div> tags -- so I will add those tags to the other Transcuded sub pages tomorrow that I did not do today ( I did all the sub-ages of Dungeons & Raids achievements ) -- ( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 07:26, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Might I ask as well, is there a Bigcat that works on media items? (Tried it on a big image category, it didn't work...) --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:15, 9 April 2009 (UTC

I don't think it's very likely, since the category structure seems to take the file name as the parameter for where to start from on subsequent pages... http://www.wowwiki.com/index.php?title=Category:Mob_screenshots&from=Image%3ABane.jpg etc...--Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 22:34, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
This suggests a MediaBigcat template, specifically for media-heavy categories. "...&from=Image%3A<letter>" works as well as ...&from=<letter>", which we've seen to work. Objections to such a template? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:54, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

World Events achievements (Darkmoon Faire)

[Blizzard] created this category when they created the World Events achievements (Argent Tournament) achievements on the PTR server but they never filled it in - I have used up my character transfers when we were working on The Argent Tournament questline and making those changes and my character became one of the character that got left in limbo ( not able to become a champion of more than 2 factions ) so I removed the Test server patch from my computer - before the last 2 new builds were released -- at last look they still had this category in the achievements section with nothing in it -- but I cant check to see if they have now removed it or not from the game - so do we leave it as a category with no achievements associated with it? or do we just remove it? - What do we do if they release 3.1 with it in game with no achievements? -- (<span="help title=Morph>M o r p h | <span="help title=Morph_Contribution(s)_to_this_Wiki>C | <span="help title=Morph_Discussion_Page>T) MorphgnomeMorphdraenei 04:06, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

For the time being, I'm just going to leave it like that. I logged on the PTR and checked when I saw you moved the section earlier today. It still exists.

Gold rewards

Saw a comment from you to someone else... I've been putting down, in "(or < cost > at 80)" just the total amount seen at 80, without doing triage of "this amount from the quest, that from the 'you are level capped'". Is that a problem? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:31, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Meh, not really. Just a reminder to me that we really need to come up with a solution so we won't have to deal with this. --k_d3 22:35, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

But speaking of gold rewards, I'm really not a fan of using item to display gold rewards along with item rewards, as was done here. My initial assumption is that the item "has a value of" (in this case) 5g 80s. More, the size used by the itembox template implies that it's an actual item, as opposed to a currency. One more Itembox winge before I let ya be: I've been pulling the "You will receive: " text out of the itembox, because having that bolded irritates the ... spit out of me. Perfectly readable in normal size/font, when placed directly before the itembox. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:13, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Query

I was wondering if Category:Trial of the Grand Crusader mobs could be a subcategory of Category:Trial of the Crusader mobs. That way you don't have to put both categories in a character's article. Or are they too distinct from each other? Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 04:32, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

I am tempted to do away with the category (and article... and template...) altogether. As far as I know there's no difference between normal and heroic mode as far as mobs are concerned. Tactics/HP etc. are going to be different, of course, but that can be handled on the boss articles themselves, like they are for any other normal/heroic-mode boss. --k_d3 04:41, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Oh okay. I was just thinking that if all the bosses in the "Trial of the Grand Crusader" were also in the "Trial of the Crusade" then one could be a subcategory of the other. If some bosses are only found in one of the Trials then my idea would not work. Well, I will let you get back to work. :) Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 04:51, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

By Fire Be Purged

The reason for my moving the torch is specific: The torch is NOT an objective of the quest. Verified by my own screenshot. It is not appropriate to have the torch in the objective section. Thottbot posts it in the description section, and that seemed good enough for me. As your edit was specifically to move it, I'd prefer not simply undoing your edit myself. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 18:19, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Another quest comment... I'm astonished that N [25-30 Daily] Battle Before The Citadel didn't fall to the "we must have separate pages if the quest is at all different" crowd. Glad to see it, but disturbed that other quests I tried such things on did not fare so well. Is the "single questbox/neutral, paragraphed quest text" format acceptable generally, then? Should we consider combining other quests which are "nigh-indistinguishable"? Or should I sit on my hands and not draw attention to it? Summary

The items that we could probably use feed back on are

 1. Should we carry the "World of Warcraft" pre-fix at all? only the root level?
 2. Should we carry the "items" post-fix at all? only the root level?
 3. Do you like the term "socketable"/"else" or "cut"/"uncut" (or have any better organization ideas)? In particular, some examples of items that don't fit the mold include  [Purified Jaggal Pearl] (came from a pearl),  [Tigerseye] (can never be a cut gem),  [Prismatic Sphere] (not made by a JC), and  [Icy Prism] (transmute container item thingy). /chomp‎ Howbizr(t·c) 6:43 PM, 28 Jul 2009 (EDT)

Conqueror's Khadgar's Regalia is the item level 232 Tier 9 Raid Set for Mages.
Triumphant Khadgar's Regalia is the item level 245 set.
Totally Triumphant Khadgar's Regalia is the item level 258 (Heroic) set.

The icons/stats were placeholder when the PTR was first implemented. That's why I didn't do much in the way of page creation (outside of the non-stat-including disambig pages). Now that 3.2's soon I'm planning on doing a revamp.
As soon as I can log in to the PTR, (yay login server busy!) I plan on checking the names. --k_d3 17:58, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
So should I stop adding the Horde pieces in - until you revamp the main pages (especialy if the names did change)? I already added the 232, 245 pieces of the Horde mage sets, with correct set stats, and piece icons, as well as added the disambig pages for the Druid sets, both Horde and Alliance. -- (M o r p hJames E. Using Template Tooltip to categorize

I was wondering if making Tooltip auto categorize what can be categorized thru it would be a good idea? Over at Template:Tooltip/dev I have made a copy of Tooltip and added some {{#if:parameter then categorize statements, of the parameters that I know to be used as categories. Take a look, play with and see if it looks doable or not?

I did seperate the Classes= into class1, class2, class3, class4 class5 parameters, so that it will categorize the items into each class that can use the item and made the |classes= go into a non-existant Category:Deprecated classes= paramater to find the pages that used Classes= and can be changed over to class1, class2, class3, etc. -- (M o r p hJames E. Something we should've done a while ago. I'm keeping tabs on /dev. Keep up the good work. --k_d3 03:15, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
I see you took up the mantel of auto-categorization with . I can not do what user:Gourra wants, for I do not have the template knowledge to go into that complex of a template. But I do see from your history on it that the few I did (for the most part) I did them correctly overall. I had added this into the template as well:
Item Race Requirements -->{{#if:{}|<li>Races: {{#ifeq:{{lc:{races}}}|alliance|Draenei, Dwarf, Gnome, Human, Night elf|{{#ifeq:{{lc:{races}}}|horde|Blood elf, Forsaken, Orc, Tauren, Troll| {races}}}}}}}<!--
For if we have future Alliance/Horde only items such as mounts - you just set |classes=Alliance or |classes=Horde and the template would show all 5 races or you can enter the individuals with commas as before (so it would not interfer withe pre-existing items already set. You might want to add it as well. -- (M o r p hJames E. Rooks, Jr. aka: Morph

The template might need 2 more parameters (non displayed) |settype= and |setnum.

The parameter settype can be set to either Arena, Tier and so far no longer used Dungeon in case they add new dungeon sets. I doubt this will happen but it would not hurt to have it.
The parameter setnum would be the Season, Tier or Dungeon Set #.
set item -->{{#if:{}|{{#if:{}|}}}}<!--
set type -->{{#if:{}|{{#if:{}|{{#ifeq:{{lc:{}}}|arena||{{#ifeq:{{lc:{}}}|tier||{{#ifeq:{{lc:{}}}|dungeon|}}}}}}<!-- Hopefully I got the correct number of }}.

Still trying to figure out how to do the source. quest/purchased are doable... we don't have a programmatic way of doing crafted/dropped, though. --k_d3 02:51, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

As always, I am against pushing categorization to the tooltip, even if it would save me a slug of work. Edit: and as the purchased/et al wasn't particularly amenable to programmatic solution, I simply started doing it the old fasioned way... --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 18:28, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

For the template Patched would it be better to set it like this? |Cataclysm=Cataclysm + NYI or such so that it sticks out in different color and all know it is not yet implemented? -- (M o r p hJames E. Rooks, Jr. aka: Morph

Sub-categories

"'blood elf quest givers' covers 'blood elves'" Not if you are looking at the blood elf list, and don't find the said npc, because its under blood elf quest givers. At least it annoyed me for editorial and comparison reasons. TherasTaneel (talk) 23:53, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Elinks-NPC

Elinks-NPC by default includes a WoWarmory link. The only mobs/NPCs WoW Armory has are bosses. It makes infinitely more sense for the armory to be an opt-in rather than an opt-out (such as elinks-object. But the current template has neither provision.

Being a high-use template, Elinks-NPC is locked from casual messing. You were the last person to edit it; could you add this feature? P-p-p-please? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 18:42, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Twin Val'kyr

Nerfing through the history of Twin Val'kyr I find that you altered the loot descriptions in a major way: You changed a description of "alliance loot"/"horde loot" to "normal loot"/"heroic loot". Was this an intentional change? If so, where did you get your information? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:23, September 1, 2009 (UTC)

At the time I thought it was a typo. It apparently is not. Feel free to revert. --k_d3 22:55, September 1, 2009 (UTC)
Of course, like the "how tall are people" issue, I'm left with "now, HOW did they get that information in the first place?" --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 23:13, September 1, 2009 (UTC)

Bot, imagelink replacement.

I saw you're doing imagelink tag removals with a new format. No problem with that, and it works fine on some of my test sigs, but on the rest it broke them completely. I'm guessing this has something to do with you removing hotlinking too, which i'm not okay with, especially as i know of no new policy prohibiting it. Reference: http://www.wowwiki.com/index.php?title=User_talk:Zealvurte/SigX&diff=2036164&oldid=1339089 -- Zeal (T/C)  22:57, September 9, 2009 (UTC)

We're trying to turn off the imagelink extension. There's no equivalent method of hotlinking images from other sites using the syntax. You're welcome to upload stuff locally if you want. --k_d3 23:00, September 9, 2009 (UTC)
*Sigh* So there's no alternative being provided for displaying external images? Is there a discussion on this open? It's just i fail to see how user specific images benefit the wiki by being uploaded to it. :/ -- Zeal (T/C)  23:08, September 9, 2009 (UTC)
Forum:Image links --k_d3 23:10, September 9, 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. Well i passed it onto Kirkburn anyway. I don't mind if i have to upload the images here/remove some, just seems there was some more considerations to take before turning off imagelink and making sweeping changes without informing people. Just leaving it as is now and will follow the outcome should i need to change my sig. :) -- Zeal (T/C)  23:17, September 9, 2009 (UTC)
No prob. Sorry about that; I thought I had the bot ignore sigs. I guess not. Going to go see what other damage it did after I get back from dinner. --k_d3 23:18, September 9, 2009 (UTC)

Statistics

... looking at the Statistics page, I have to guess that the "registered users" is inflated by including all of wikia in the number; even a complete turnover each month of active users could not generate such a figure. Of the various statistics, which were reset when we moved to wikia? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:53, September 24, 2009 (UTC)

The only stat that's wikia-wide is the total users stat. Everything else should only be related to wowwiki. See Special:WikiaStats and Special:ListUsers for more local-stuff. --k_d3 22:57, September 24, 2009 (UTC)
The edit count, then, did not get reset when we moved to wikia? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 00:02, September 25, 2009 (UTC)
Nope. --k_d3 00:12, September 25, 2009 (UTC)

The Magical kingdom of dalaran

kd3, thanks for noticing my quest guide to the magical kingdom of dalaran. Its an advantage I stumbled upon levelling me second character. Question though- Why are there three versions of that quest? If I recall, they are all neutral (violet hold) and are just located in horde and alliance cities. Really it should just be of violet hold faction. I added my quest guide to the horde and alliance versions nonetheless so anyone viewing them gets to see my little guide. Dh66 (talk) 00:05, December 20, 2009 (UTC)
