Herb Skinning vs Mob herbalism

I really think we need a more generic name for this mechanism. It's precisely the same mechanism as skinning, and includes Mob mining, what engineers do to mechanical mobs. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:21, March 26, 2010 (UTC)

I would really favor the term "Salvaging" for the lot. "Mob (fill in the blank)" doesn't do it for me, because "mob skinning" (for skinning) makes no sense. I agree it would be nice to have better names for them, and you should bring this up in the forums to see if anyone has any good ideas. But for consistency the current names are ok, though probably should all just be merged into their appropriate main article, cause still called (in-game) Engineering (when preforming it on a mob), Mining, and Herbalism.

Might have been new when compared to the creation of the old articles. But as Named mobs is a parent of Rare Mobs, if they're rare its best to use the Rare mobs cat.

Emblems and PvP items

Currently the [Emblem of Triumph] page only lists a few of the PvP items that can be purchased, specifically a few of the leather ones. Adding all the PvP items will substantially increase the size of the columns. Is it preferable to create an entirely new section, similar to the Tier 10 section, and link the sets for each class, rather than add all the items to the columns? Help with Image Licensing

You did, and yes Alindaloran.jpg was licensed, that was my freebie with an attached note. I will usually give a user 1-3 freebies (so long as they are all within the same moment) otherwise I just give warnings to fix.

Zalazane

On the topic of Zalazane. His Backstory in Lands Of Mystery is rife with errors, from a third party source, and is not consistent with his backstory given in all other sources of lore. Upload multiple files option

I've been wondering for some time now, when I a seldom time upload muliple files at once, I find it rather annoying that the file-name is written in black on a gray background, because this makes it hard to see what one is doing. Black text on gray background

I guess we could try it out. Though I'd rather have the elementals split up by type like they are now. I'm not sure why (Deceased) appears next to the bone wraith and I don't think Wights are considered abominations. I'm also not completely sure that's the best way to group the demons.

Remove Devil, Because it's a loose term in warcrafta and in rpg it's used in appendix 3 which we aren't adding to the template

Add Dark titan inside the titan section betwen the aesir and vanir

Add Doomlord inside Ere'duin if you want to, i don't know if it's a sub-race so it's up to you to decide

Hmm, the dragonkin does look good, however, the Azure should be merged with Blue... same flight and all. And the separation in the mechanical section looked ok, though some categories could be called into question, but I won't get into it, if you said you weren't going to bother doing that one.

The thing with the azure is because i didn't want to make azure first than blues because that would overshadow the blues and i didn't want to put below each entry because it would look bad after we add all the azure entries it would look good separated, anyway your choice azure seperated from blue or united with blue in front of the rest of the blues, or behind

Outdated image version still in use?

Heya there Coobra, I noticed something odd with some images, and wondered whether someone has done a mistake or not. The current image version for File:Inv_chest_plate_22.png shows a gray on-flames breatplate, but I've seen that the oldest version of it from 2007 (the purple-blue one) is still in-game on several items as of the patch 3.3.3. One example is [Turalyon's Battleplate of Triumph]. Clicking any of the external links will show that the "old" image is still in use. I think I see why. Seems the fiery one is named File:Inv_chest_plate22.png and the purple one is named File:Inv_chest_plate_22.png. I can see where the confusion came from.

Indeed indeed, Coobra possesses the very essence of meticulousness itself.. and as it happens to be that I just remembered another possible image error I once saw on wowwiki, who is better to fix it than Coobra? :D It seems the wowwiki article for Drak'Tharon Keep has an missplaced (or possibly outdated? I never saw any other version than the current) Loading Screen-image. The current wowwiki-image looks like this while the loading screen for this instance I see in-game looks like this. Thank you pointing it out... it can be fixed, but probably not by me... I don't really know where to get the good screenshots of the loading screens, I tagged it for being out of date. Perhaps Kaydeethree or Varghedin will be able to help with that. They seem to get the really nice ones.

I take it you do not share my opinion... that there are few enough vehicles that keeping them redundantly in "(zone) vehicles" and "WoW vehicles" would be vaild. I would not have a *lot* of complaint about zapping the <zone> categories in this case. However, I'd point out that there are at least some vehicles in existence that haven't got pages yet. Might be a bit early to say categorically that there aren't enough to justify any given zone.

Separate Articles for Character Biographies

Hey, I've noticed several users actually have separate articles within their user page for character biographies the URL usually being wowpedia.org/User:XName/XCharactername. I was wondering how I would be able to do the same. Nudity

Neither the DNP policy or the image policy specifically forbids topless images of Warcraft characters, unless I missed something. Children's week quests

It's funny how they work... if the event is going on and you get the quest it's labeled under the events name (Children's Week), but if you have the quest when the event ends it switches to Special. I'd say just use the name of the event at the category. While yes the WorldEvent templates have a quest parameter, it would just be best to allow the questbox template to handle the categories... But in the end it doesn't really matter, they'll both place them in the correct category if they were done right. But it's always good to have those extra parameters, just in case you might need them... for example

[70] When I Grow Up.... This quest was removed from the game, so the questbox template gets a |doc= to prevent categories, and the worldevent template can use the quest parameter to keep them organized.

Um... Each of the children's week quests that I've looked at has appeared under "special" in my quest log. All of them. During Children's week. MOBs vs. NPCs

Would it be safe to say that all mobs that are not hostile to at least one faction should be re-classed as npcs? Drazisil (^t/_c) 00:13, May 10, 2010 (UTC)

Mobs are creatures that were designed to be killed for quests or loot, while NPCs are creatures that interact with players via chat, quests, and/or vendoring. Even if friendly to one faction if they're in a faction specific zone, they would be mobs.

For example, the Dalaran humans in Silverpine Forest, while friendly to Alliance players are mobs and quest objectives for Horde... They are classified as mobs.

Quest Enders

This plans to be handled differently in the soonish future. But yes, if the npc is a quest giver and a quest ender, only use the quest giver category. If they only end a quest, then they get the quest ender category. I believe this is stated in the categories as well.

Category:Ghost quest enders states NOTE: Many ghosts who are quest givers are also quest enders, but were not categorized or marked correctly as such. This makes it sound like both categories should be applied. Perhaps a wording change?

Proposed rewrite of Guard

Hi, I had a look at the Guard article and really thought it could use a complete rewrite: it is full of incorrect information (human guards are not the only ones who use shields, guards spawned when a zone is under attack are not higher level than the normal guards there), outdated information (Undead Guards have been replaced with Kor'Kron guards, Seekers have been replaced with Dark Rangers) and missing notable encyclopedic information (such as guard reactions to classes/professions they like/dislike, and that the named elite guards also have a snare). It doesn't even mention in the current article that the elite guards can see through stealth!

The style is also somewhat bland; "Their uniqueness... their uniqueness.. their uniqueness...", it also doesn't list guards seen in Alliance and Horde bases in Outland or Northrend. I think that the list is kind of tedious and can be replaced with this single sentence I used in my rewrite:

Predictably, every city, town, and outpost is guarded by members of the race it belongs to, except for the Undercity, which is being occupied and monitored by Thrall's Kor'kron Guard to prevent a repeat of the events of the Wrathgate.

Because you said I can leave a message on your talk page if I need help with anything, can you please look at my proposed rewrite on User:Sarvam/Guard rewrite? Without these pages that you refer to, a number of invalid links are located on the site at the moment. See this page for example. Better to have some information than no information at all. Technically, the fact that this page links to each subzone gives the exact same information that I put on the pages that you deleted, making me wonder why it is so bad to have existing articles about the subzones. The information can always be changed if neccesary.

possible problem with image

It's not a bots job to add stubs, the issue was you weren't adding them correctly. To place a stub simply use (using mob as an example) {{Stub/Mob}}, nothing more.

For one thing, I tried several of the other suggestions repeatedly and many are too vague to be helpful. For example, the location at the SW docks is extremely vague and could be any number of places. I got sick of wasting time and gold trying to find the right spot and I think other people would, too. That's why I made my directions very precise so it is EASILY IDENTIFIABLE. As for the commentary, my purpose for that was to keep a record that it may be incorrect for whatever reason, and someone coming after me can verify it either positively or negatively. I see what you're saying about personal comments, but that wasn't my intent. I didn't want to fully delete that option in case someone found a way that I could not, but I also didn't people wasting their time as is sometimes the case when trying to follow a wiki recommendation. Never claim it offended me, perhaps you need to read Project:NPOV. Illidan's Alignment

Why would Illidan ever be considered as "evil" when he clearly isn't. Everything he ever did was a lesser evil for a greater good, he even made self sacrifices for the greater good. In Illidan's initial appearance in Warcraft III, he is freed from ten thousand years of imprisonment to help his people. You might think that had driven him mad, but he does succeed in saving his people (at the cost of becoming part demon). For this heroic act of self sacrifice, he is exiled by his own brother, Furion. Then he is hired by the demon lord Kil'jaeden to destroy the Lich King before he regains his power. Illidan is stopped by Malfurion, who was misled about the former's intentions. When Furion finds out that Maiev, Illidan's jailor, had betrayed him and lied about the death of his lover, Illidan and his brother work together to save said lover.

Afterward, Illidan tries one last time to stop the Lich King, but is defeated at the end of Warcraft III's expansion. Thus Illidan had been, at worst, a Well-Intentioned Extremist who rarely did anything not in his people's interest (even the original reason for his imprisonment was for keeping part of the Well of Eternity, which he felt was too useful to completely destroy, even if it is what brought the demons). Even in the War of the Ancients Trilogy Illidan, while portrayed as significantly more power-hungry, still wishes to save his people. Come World of Warcraft however, Illidan is brooding on Outland as a Designated Villain with Informed Insanity.

He is treated as if he was always a villain, carries the title "the Betrayer" (which he, in fact, mocked in the intro to the Frozen Throne, but it seems the writer's forgot that he was right), and most of the expansion revolves around fighting him and his minions, despite the fact that it is supposed to be about defeating the Burning Legion's Burning Crusade, whom he betrayed and is now using their weapons against them. To put salt in the wound, Maiev helps you defeat him, who was not only said to have died in multiple sources, but was the true traitor in Illidan's story, having left the night elven leader's lover for dead and allowing the Lich King to survive just for a chance to imprison somebody who was saving the world.

I understand that he is an extremely complex character and why one wouldn't want to classify him as "good" (despite my own personal opinion that he is a good person), but I don't understand why he would be called "evil" instead of "neutral".TeMpLaR (talk) 01:23, May 17, 2010 (UTC)

The entire 10.x.x.x is a non-routable IP that can be used anywhere. It not only shouldn't be seen by any website, ever, there's no way it should ever get in a block list, for the same reason.[[1]]

I talked to Wikia about it. Apparently, they have a server (or a router, perhaps?) that is misbehaving, passing one of their internal IP addresses along, and are tracking it down. It's Wikia wide. But even given the possibility of Bladefist Bay (wherever that is) having both, it doesn't change the point that both boats and zeppelins are "means to get to places far away". License and categories auto - option

Have you by the way noticed that,...lets say, you have a file, if you put category mob on it, that it doesn't show up in the same order as if had been licenced with that license template thing.

And another thing, like the pet option in a npcbox adds a category, would it be hard do you think to make it do the same with e.g. the race? There's too many different races that same categories and many different variations for the same race... it would just be too much.

Yeah i noticed a few mistakes that should be correct some of those where mine and some stuff it needs to be added:

Add this to the native to azeroth inside the Aqir part: -[[Qiraji]] [[[Qiraji emperor|Emperor]]{{·}} [[Qiraji prophet|Prophet]]] , add missing kinds

Cut the furbolg section and glued it in front of the faceless section, it's not by alphabetic order

Substitute the dwarf code with this: -[[Earthen]] [[[Frostborn]]{{·}} [[Iron dwarf|Iron]]]{{·}} [[Ironforge dwarf|Ironforge]] [[[Bronzebeard clan|Bronzebeard]]{{·}} [[Dark Iron clan|Dark Iron]]{{·}} [[Wildhammer clan|Wildhammer]]]{{·}} [[Skardyn]]{{·}} [[Trogg]]), i think it's wrong to call trogg a sub-race of earthen, since the dwarves are also separated(also they're adding new types of trogg in cataclysm...)

Sometimes it's the way the files are linked on a page that prevents it from being quickly seen as linked to from. If a colon (:) is placed in front the file's name for instance, it often times won't show up in the file links, but will in the Whatlinkshere page. File:Crossroadsbanner.jpg for example, the way I linked it won't show up in the file links, see for yourself... it can be a little annoying.

Blood Elf Page

Sorry about spoiling your work, but the lore was all wrong regarding M'uru. The chain of events that the article had before I edited it was:

M'uru resident in Blood Knight area in SC
Kael kidnaps him and takes him to Outland
Events of Burning Crusade up to 2.4.x
Events at Sunwell Plateau, with M'uru somehow showing up there

This, of course, is wrong. I corrected it to:

Kael travels to Outland, captures M'uru in Tempest Keep, and sends him to SC
Events of Burning Crusade, including Kael's defeat at TK, up to 2.4.x
Kael returns to SC to kidnap M'uru and take him to Isle of Quel'Danas
Events at Sunwell Plateau

I simply wikified that stuff and fixed spelling mistakes, to which you undid it all then made lore corrections, but leaving many of the spelling mistakes and removing all wikified words that I had previously fixed. The 'dragons aka drakes' thing comes from the story saying that they were fighting drakes after the aforementioned sentence calling them dragons. I'm not a dragon expert (that's my wife) but a drake is a male dragon. A wyrm is also a dragon. Drake refers to gender, wrym refers to sub-type. It's a judgement call if we want to assume Blizzard follows the definitions or not. To make matters more interesting, wyrm is English, while dragon is French.

Regarding Gul'dan

I realize that you needed to protect the page to put a stop to the editting war, but I must protest the notion that Gul'dan is somehow not affiliated with the Horde.

He was the head necromancer of Doomhammer's Horde, and while his loyalty was to himself, loyalty is not the same as political affiliation.

The article should be reverted to normal, with Gul'dan labeled as a Horde character.

Cannons and Turrets

I want to make an article about cannons and turrets, although there is a article about Cannon it excludes turrets entirely and, i want to change that article to another name, but cannons and turrets is too long, I had the thought of calling it Artillery but i feel like something missing.

The lowest would be Category:Quest givers and Category:Quest enders, as for the instances.. I'm not going to make individual categories for each place, not a huge amount have quest givers and the ones that do don't have many. So as for as instances go, Category:Instance quest givers would be the highest level.

True enough, they would, but the manual intersections we're working through aren't such bad ones to be making, because they're very useful even without SMW. The intersection of "quest givers" with "zone NPCs" is a fair bit more trivial (imo) in nature. On the other hand, it's very useful metadata for the future, so I'm of the opinion that we shouldn't remove it. To be honest, I dislike how SMW handles the data (All that syntax added unless it's in a template? Personally, just from a change of mind perspective, I'd rather use a template with certain parameters that would auto-categorize these NPC articles, that way, if we do decide later down the road (which seems to happen every other year or so), that all we'd have to do is change how the template reacts to the already entered parameters and change everything, without having to manually do the thousands upon thousands of articles. (even if a bot was setup to do the changes). But that's just me.

Unless you can actually walk up to those characters in the beta and take a screenshot of them, the only way to get that information is to datamine their models from the game files, which is what MMO-Champion did. I noticed that a template {{C-inline}} had been created and was slowly taking over the {{Cata-inline}}.

They way I figured it was that we would use {{C-inline}}(

) for the templates or even character location and we would use {{Cata-inline}}(

) in an article to show information from Cataclysm. For example the Thrall page

Aye {{c-inline}} was just created for the zone navboxes, to see new zones and not be cluttered by that huge cataclysm "icon". However, if users want to use it for other things that's fine too. It can always be put to a vote later down the road for which to use as the main icon, but once cata hits all those icons will be removed from the zone navboxes and {{c-inline}}'s purpose will be done. The template will then either be a redirect or deleted, depending on how widely used it gets for other things.

Gallery versus Images

This is regarding New Thalanaar

Someone named Kirkburn created a gallery out of one image. In a flurry of updates I removed the gallery. I didn't think it met the qualifications of a gallery; especially if there's only one image. Also this location is small enough that is doesn't merit a "gallery" of images. My changes were reverted back to a gallery by Kirkburn this morning. Could you tell me which is correct? Not trying to make fun of you, It just seems funny to us because we know Kirkburn. While it's a good idea to be bold, It's also a good rule of thumb to drop a line on the user's talk page before removing content, unless it is clearly DNP or Vandalism. I Didn't mean it like that. I was just trying to be helpful and my tip about talking before deleting content is just as valid regardless of the user rights of the person. I know if people deleting something I felt was useful with no explanation I would feel it was a waste of my time. If this weren't an open wiki people would get banned far more often. My ears are burning! Perhaps I am biased as I worked on the new gallery design, but I just think it looks better than left aligned thumbnails (when not floating in text). I'm also considering returning to New Thalanaar soon to get more pictures (the one I took was a bit random, taken in passing). The Shaper's Terrace

I was wondering if you could head over here - http://www.wowpedia.org/User_talk:Joshmaul#The_Shaper.27s_Terrace - and put in your two cents. As I've explained in the discussion there, there are two distinct areas in Cataclysm named The Shaper's Terrace in Un'Goro Crater, one to the due north and one to the due east (http://www.wowpedia.org/index.php?title=The_Shaper%27s_Terrace&redirect=no). They are not connected to one another in any way, shape, or form. In fact, it takes about a minute to fly from one to the other. I created a separate page for the one added in Cataclysm, but it has since been redirected to the page showing the original Shaper's Terrace - the way that page reads now (Cat section) there is no difference between the two areas.

Wikia Front End Cache

The few times I've seen this error Wowwiki has gone down for about 45 minutes; sometimes an hour, during which time some pages and images may load intermittently. This has been bugging me. I agree after looking at the page that the second pic isn't needed as it was really only proof it worked! LOL And I don't think that was really usefull but the first image I would like to add back as that shows you what you will get when you can't access the achivement window. Underscore vs Spaces and the Naming Policy

I don't understand how this is happening. I changed my Photoshop settings so that filenames now save with spaces intend of hyphens. But after I upload them to Wowwiki they appear with underscores. The odd thing is when you view the popup overlay the filename preserves the space. Could you tell me how to get rid of the underscore? Or is this part of the Wiki software? Coobra - Denied my edits

Hey bud, I see you denied my edits for the Eye of the storm. Can you site exactly why? This way I learn what is ok and what isn't. I do believe that the information was in the appropriate area and added value to readers. The external link I believe was also a valid link that was in line with WoW Wiki policies. If I violated anything let me know so I can improve and not let it happen again, otherwise I'd like consideration with my edits.
