(maybe rework to year 29?)

(counted from Cata, year 28)

Year 8
  • Greydon Thorne and Silverlaine Thorne visit Gadgetzan. Greydon is already being tormented by Xaraax. Charnas opens his store and meets the Thornes.
  • Reigol has a passionate encounter with a pirate. ("nearly twenty years ago" the nearly is probably important, and instead this point could refer to the encounter with Marjani)
Year 9
Year 10
Year 11
Year 13
Year 14
  • Malus starts something and is looking for the compass / Diamond Blade. (first book, chapter 24: "He had to have it (the compass), and not for as a prize or gift to the arakkoa's master. He had his own design, his own purposes. He was determined to finish what he had started 14 years ago." (here likely Malus killed the naaru, hence why in the next year Greydon moves to Lakeshire?)
Year 15
Year 16 (or December Y15)
Year 17
Year 18
19-20
Year 22
  • Greydon leaves Lakeshire on Aram's 6th birthday.
Year 24 - 25
  • Ceya gets divorced, Aram accepts his father gone, Robb moves to Ceya, Robertson is born.
Year 24
Year 26
  • Makasa is fifteen and joins the Sea King. After several weeks later, Amahle, being 17, (and the other two brothers) is killed and Greydon rescues Makasa.
  • Aram receives a sweater from his mother on his 11th birthday.
Year 27,5
  • Greydon visits Gadgetzan for the last time (before September). Marin Noggenfogger is already a baron. (He was first seen as baron in the Cataclysm (Year 28).)
  • Aram receives a sketchbook on his 12th birthday.
  • Months later from his Gadgetzan trip, about one month after Aram's birthday, Greydon returns to Lakeshire to get Aram.
  • The next 6 months, Aram is on the Wavestrider.
Year 28

It is late summer nearing autumn.

  • Aram is 12, Makasa is 17.
  • After six months aboard the Wavestrider, Jonas Cobb, being 11 months away to fulfill his contract, betrays the Wavestrider to the Hidden who destroy the ship. Keelhaul Watt dies.
  • Almost a month later, Thalyss Greyoak dies protecting Aram and is buried near Skypeak.
  • New Thalanaar is being besieged for months now.
  • Reigol has been associated with the Hidden for months now.
  • When the travelers fly to Stonetalon Mountains, Greydon is held prisoner for nearly two months.
  • When the Cloudkicker landed in SM, Aram is still 12 and Makasa 17.
  • Battlescar Valley is still locked in the Alliance-Horde battle.
  • Ashenvale "had been hit hard recently by forces from the Barrens."
  • Area near Northwatch Base is filled with Horde.
  • More than a week is spent in the Overlook.
  • It took two days to get from the Overlook to the Northwatch Base.
  • It is several days that Aram is captured and tortured in the citadel.
  • Makasa is in Lakeshire, in 3 days she found the final shards. 6/7 days passed when Makasa sent the messages for help to Kalimdor. + One day to get to the Dark Portal.
  • Malus is killed by Makasa. Before parting, each of their party is given a shard of the Diamond Blade.
  • A month after the Hidden citadel battle, Aram in Lakeshire received a letter from King Wrynn.
29
  • It has been "almost a year" since Malus died in the Hidden citadel. Aram and the Seven friends are reunited at the Forever Tree. They promised to meet here next year before boarding the Dryad.

Unsorted
  • "years ago", Throgg joined the Shattered Hand.
  • Murky being away from the village a month or two months, before he found Aram and Makasa?
  • "Many seasons pass" since the Woodpaws moved to when Hackle banished.

Note - Reigol and a pirate (likely Marjani met each other after he became a Forsaken. (the passage near "some eight or nine years ago"))

Notes

Aram's dates
  • It's late summer (let's say late September), and Aram has spent 9 months (one month after his birday, 6 on the sea, 8th is Feralas, 9th is 1k Needles/Tanaris) of his twelfth year by the end of the second book which means his birthday is in or around December (thus it would be December of Year 15).
  • Due to vague "late summer nearing autumn", six months on the Waverider and Greydon's 2-month imprisonment (which would be Aram's journey in Feralas-1k Needles, Tanaris, and the flight to Stonetalon), Aram's birth may be very late year 15 (december) or very early in year 16 (January).
  • From when Aram lands in the SM to when Makasa killed Malus, approximately 1 month lasts. (october)
  • Then one month after the citadel battle, gift from Stormwind. (which should be November)
  • Then "almost a year since Malus had fallen" there is the Friends reunion.
Misc
  • Based on the 5-year contract and Jonas being 11 months away, Greydon would start the crew in or around June.
  • Since the hyenas were with the ogres in Dire Maul since Vanilla, was the rule of Greasefang and Claw before WoW?
  • Thalanaar's siege - It has been besieged for months by the time of Aramar's visit.
    • the siege isn't renewed in MoP, instead it is the same from Cataclysm.
Others
  • The youngsters saw Bloodsail ships in the Shimmering Deep when they were heading to the exit of the 1k Needles. They were described with red-as-blood sails.
    • Roughly at that spot it could be Southsea Holdfast and its ships. In the game, all pirate ships tend to have the same sails, and red color is present as well.
  • Why the Shattered Hand worked with the Hidden is unexplained. So is the timeline for the Mahrook clan.
Shattered Hand, Mahrook
  • The exact time period of the attacks is not known. The Traveler series says that Throgg joined the SH "years ago" and when Throgg was young that the SH found him when the Alliance destroyed Mahrooks, and that "there weren't many Shattered Hand orcs left on Azeroth." The Shattered Hand first entered Azeroth during the Invasion of Draenor, leaving them stranded on Azeroth when the Dark Portal was destroyed, which coincides with the book mention.
    • The Old Horde and the Horde of Draenor were non-existent following the Invasion of Draenor, so the Mahrook and Shattered Hand fighting for the Horde should be the New Horde. What about the Alliance? Alliance of Lordaeron or the Grand Alliance?
      • However, the battle described kinda doesn't fit the current incarnations of the two factions. Unless it happened like the battlegrounds.
      • Throgg saying young, may imply the first Hordes instead of the New Horde which is fairly recent. Or is approx 10 that much to say that when he was young?
      • HC: the fights happened after the internment camp liberations / Durnholde's fall but before Medivh met Thrall and told him to gtfo of Lordaeron.
  • Shattered Hand assisted Malus in finding the compass and Greydon. Malus is searching for it since year approx 15. When exactly Malus bought Throgg is also unknown.
Order of the Seven Suns
  • How and when exactly did the naaru find Azeroth and "lend its shield" to Azeroth? How and when the order came to be? Who were the other five members and what happened to them?
  • Where were they based, since Greydon has his quarters?
  • Where exactly was Xaraax when Silverlaine went to attack him?
    • Azeroth?
      • Could Xaraax be sent by Kil'jaden, similar to the dreadlords that guarded the Lich King, which is Year 8, and which is also chronologically the first mention of Xaraax.
    • Outland?
      • The order had a means of getting to another world?
  • What exactly is the Darkstorm, and how did it come to be? How did the Legion and the naaru find out about it? Was it summoned / created by Xaraax or found by him? Is it supposed to be a magical force formed from the Void?
  • Three shards are buried in Redridge.
    • Greydon possibly hid them when he returned to get Aram. He stayed at the inn during that time.

TSB

  • Boughmans
    • A family name in Lakeshire?
  • Ashenvale "had been hit hard recently by forces from the Barrens"??? The Cataclysm's Ashenvale war (Wolfheart & in-game questing) came from Azshara.
    • Maybe refers to the adventurers coming from the Barrens quests to Ashenvale.
  • Thragmo
  • Ducks
  • Aphids
  • Grasshopper
  • There's a war between the Alliance and Horde going on.
  • Desamir Ferrar, Joe Barker, Yakomo Hide, Orley Post, Duan Phen, Durgan One-God, Mary Brown are not mentioned by name.
    • It's probably they are meant to be dead.
  • Mueh'zala is not mentioned at all.
  • Gordok's Elite and the ogres (except for Karrga) go unmentioned.
  • The previous books hinted at Malus' own plans, different than Xaraax's. The book never touches this plot, and instead, Malus goes along with the Darkstorm.
    • Maybe it was the personal vendetta against his brother.
  • Why the name, Malus?
  • The idea of the blade's magical crystal shards scattered all over Azeroth is like that story of Warcraft III WoW map.
  • The naaru identity (name) albeit it being the Voice, is unknown.

Inconistencies and mistakes

Timeline
  • It says that recently, Fort Triumph and Theramore have received a swell of Alliance troops and that Silverlaine could be there. However, as it is hinted by the timeline and mentions of the pandaren items (in a sailor shanty) and Pandaria, it is set during the events of MoP, which have Fort Triumph and Theramore destroyed, not active.
    • Like in the second book, Theramore is depicted as Theramore Isle, instead of the Ruins version.
    • Maaaybe Iyneath didn't know about the two being destroyed (which is very unlikely considering what he says next), and the swell of troops was actually the events of the Attack on Theramore Isle.
    • Maaaybe the pandaren items were commonsight or actually 'rare', and the Pandaria mention means that only Greydon knew about (and had a map of) Pandaria while the Alliance and Horde were not aware of it prior to its discovery. Somehow...
      • If the Triumph and Theramore mentions are not a mistake, then the timeline could be moved to minus one year, to fit the appearance of Baron Marin Noggenfogger. Troop swell could be the Cataclysm wars.
        • However, it already creates the Ironpatch inconsistency.
      • This would also mean that the Battlescar and Ashenvale battles refer to the Cata battles. The Grimtotem-New Thalanaar siege is the same as the one in Cata as well instead of repeating the same siege during MoP.
  • The Krom'gar is active in the book. After the Stonetalon questline is finished, the Krom'gar is disbanded.
    • This could mean that timeline-wise, the story takes place at the start of the Cataclysm (minus 2 years). It would fit even better into the Cataclysm-era mentions. It would also fit the Reigol mention of "some eight or nine years".
      • However this is not possible since Ironpatch was killed when Makasa was 15, and he was alive in Cata and gives new quests, and she is now 17.
        • It could be speculated that he somehow survived the book death to become Cata quest giver.
      • It is not possible due to the story of Freewind Post. (or the Thousand Needles questline happened very early in Cata so that the Traveler story could take place a bit later - to fit the "Thalanaar being besieged for months" mention)
      • Marin could become Baron very early in Cata or in late WotLK so that Traveler events could happen.
      • This could also explain Ukorz - he first appeared in the book and then the in-game raid would happen afterward.
  • Gazlowe asks Galena Stormspear if she wants to fix the Cataclysm (ch. 22). This could technically mean that the Cataclysm era is in process and not over.
  • MEGA - Annual Fizzle and Pozzik's Speedbarge Boat Race
    • TSP doesn't say that the annual race is the first one. Considering this, then it makes no sense for the annual race to happen in the first year of Cata since Thousand Needles was flooded with the Cataclysm.
      • Is it the second year of Cata (Y29)? Problems with Krom'gar being active, but it could resolve the Thalalanaar siege and give time for Freewind Post progress to take place.
      • The overall timeline in Cata zones is different and not linear as experienced during questing?
Final deduction / speculation
  • Since there are more hints that the story happens during Cata (despite the Ironpatch inconsistency), it could be speculated that Greydon had a map of Pandaria (and knew about its location) years before the mists parted due to his past with the Order of the Seven Suns or he learned about it when he was searching for the Diamond Blade shards that had been blasted all over Azeroth, so it is logical that he needed the knowledge of every continent there is on Azeroth, even those concealed ones. Or the Pandaria's location is common among sailors.
  • No matter which year is put (28/29/30), each has a detail that is in conflict with overall timeline.
Speculation

HISHB or rant

Timeline
  • The time setting should be clear, having no clue (or contradicting ones) when exactly the story takes place is stupid.
  • Northwatch Expedition Base Camp should not be completely empty.
  • There was enough going on in Cataclysm in the game and in other literature, the story should have happened during MoP, when the focus was mostly on Pandaria, before returning to Kalimdor and EK in the final patches.
    • The Grimtotem should not be attacking New Thalanaar.
    • The black dragonflight should not be in the Charred Vale.
    • Battlescar Valley should not be locked in A-H battle.
    • And Theramore / Southern Barrens would be torn and dangerous, making it harder for Aram to learn about Silverlaine.
  • Alternatively, it should happen in WoD to give Azeroth more to going on while the story is on Draenor. More to do for Varian before his death.
    • WoD's update of Razorfen Downs would be caused by the events of the second book.
  • When retelling the history of Silverailne and the naaru
    • the Third War and Outland invasions should have been briefly referenced considering how threatening the Darkstorm is.
    • Where exactly was the Order of the Seven Suns stationed? (and where was the naaru?)
    • Where exactly did Silverlaine fight Xaraax if Outland was inaccessible till TBC?
    • The timeline for this should have been detailed. When exactly the betrayal happened?
  • Have a proper meeting with the rest of Makasa's army and friends with Greydon after the citadel battle instead of cutting right before it, as well as a send off for the minor characters (Woodpaw gnolls, Everstill murlocs, the helf mage).
  • The cave that Telagos should have been in is the same place where Orastrasz guarded the Dragon Soul, and it s. Since it was empty since the Second War and due to the former draconic presence, Telagos chose the location, and Telagos should cave a line about it, in order to make threads between Warcraft literature
  • The dead & missing Wavestrider crew should have been referenced.
