Greedy Motivation

Treasure Goblins are small, mischievous creatures that can spawn throughout the Broken Isles as well as at the end of any Broken Isles dungeon during the course of the Diablo's 20th Anniversary world event. If attacked, they will attempt to run away, and if not killed in time they will open an Escape Portal and despawn. If they are successfully killed, they will drop various items. During the Diablo 20th Aniversary Event, they also caused another portal labeled "The Secret Cow Level" to open nearby. The latter can be used to teleport to a phased version of the Yorgen Farmstead in Duskwood inhabited by Diabolic Bovines, Diabolic Tauren and the Cow King.

They also spawned during the A Greedy Emissary event in Orgrimmar, Stormwind and the Dragon Isles zones. First the Demon Portal will spawn and will last for 5 minutes, after which the goblin will spawn and appear on the map as the Maldraxxi abomination icon maldraxxi abomination icon.

Loot

Diablo's 20th Anniversary
A Greedy Emissary

The goblin will always drop 40-50g.

While all items listed have the same drop rates for each kill, the following items only have a higher drop rate for the first kill of the day with any subsequent kills or kills on alts having a reduced drop rate:[1]

Trivia

  • Just like the companion pet of the same name, the Treasure Goblin is a reference to the creatures of the same name that were introduced with Diablo III. Diablo III's Treasure Goblins are creatures rarely found throughout the world that are initially stationary, but will start to run away when aggroed and drop increasingly better loot with each hit. If they go several seconds without being attacked, the Treasure Goblin will escape through a portal and disappear. It was later revealed that Treasure Goblins serve a demon lord known as Greed and that their escape portals actually lead to Greed's domain.

World of Warcraft Pays Homage to Diablo with the Greedy Emissary Event. “The Tyrael's Charger mount and the Horadric Haversack 36-slot bag each have a significantly higher chance of dropping on the first Treasure Goblin kill of the day on any character on an account. Subsequent kills or kills on alts have reduced chances for these items. All other items have the same drop rate for each kill.”
