The Dragonscale Expedition is the name of the joint Alliance and Horde expedition to the Dragon Isles. Explicitly not a military expedition, it set up outposts throughout the Isles as it continued to explore them. Despite their shared mission, rivalries between the Explorers' League and Reliquary endured.

History

Following the return of the Dragon Isles, Wrathion and Ebyssian went to Stormwind and Orgrimmar, respectively, to extend an invitation to the Horde and Alliance from Alexstrasza. However, the Dragon Queen would not tolerate any fighting between factions, as such the leaders of the Horde and Alliance pledged the support of the Explorers' League and the Reliquary, rather than their military. They gathered various explorers, artisans, and scholars and embarked on the voyage to the Dragon Isles. Despite not bringing any soldiers, they were permitted to bring bodyguards, who had strict orders to assist members of the Expedition regardless of faction. Some members of the expedition even brought their families with them.

They established their basecamp in the Waking Shores and began to explore and document the wonders of the Dragon Isles. Catalogers used cameras to snap pictures of interesting specimens, typically being sent out in pairs for safety. Pathfinders used their climbing equipment to scale the rugged terrain of the island to gather samples. While exploring the island, they frequently came into conflict with the Sundered Flame and the Primalists, often relying on the protection of adventurers or their bodyguards. As part of their adventurers on the Dragon Isles, the expedition reactivated an ancient waygate network and stopped the Sundered Flame from unleashing the arcane power from the Ruins of Karnthar.

When the Dragonscale Expedition discovered a mysterious sealed Titan facility in Tyrhold, they asked Watcher Koranos to help open it. He directed them to the Azure Archives Annex for answers and they found a Watcher's Log that revealed the door could be open with three stones scattered across the Dragon Isles. However, Scalecommander Sarkareth snuck into Valdrakken and stole the book. The Expedition raced against the Sundered Flame to gather the stones and were able to unlock the vault first. Inside, they learned that Keeper Tyr kept an extensive database on the Dragon Aspects and proto-dragons. They took the discs containing Tyr's research and destroyed the facility. When they returned to basecamp, they were curious as to why Tyr had such a catalog and why he went to such great lengths to keep it hidden. Later, Sarkareth infiltrated Dragonscale Basecamp by disguising himself as a researcher and stole the research.

After the Primal Incarnates opened a way into Zaralek Cavern, the Dragonscale Expedition went underground to explore as well. Rannan Korren hired Tuberros to be his guide within the cavern and went to investigate a titan facility, but they were captured by the Sundered Flame. Fortunately, they were rescued by Ebyssian, Scalecommander Emberthal, and an adventurer. They helped them access the vault to help stop Sarkareth, but opted to remain outside to avoid combat. After Sarkareth escaped, Rannan was interested in documenting the artifacts left by Neltharion and the Titans in the facility.

When Fyrakk and the Druids of the Flame laid siege to the Emerald Dream, the Dragonscale Expedition arrived to aid in driving back their assault. They then visited Amirdrassil when it bloomed on the Dragon Isles after Fyrakk's death and attended the subsequent celebratory party.

Following the decision to teleport Dalaran to Khaz Algar, the Explorers' League and the Reliquary continued their partnership and formed the Algari Expedition as a successor to the Dragonscale Expedition.

Climbing

Expedition Supply Kit

The unique ability for the Dragonscale Expedition is climbing, unlocked at Renown 6 and a short quest chain starting with  [10-70] A Climber's Calling. Once complete, players have access to a tech tree by interacting with the Expedition Supply Kit next to Pathfinder Jeb at the Dragonscale Basecamp.
