The Ruins of Eldarath are all that remains an ancient night elven city located in central Azshara.

Before the Great Sundering, Eldarath was a flourishing city—a mighty stronghold, even. It is believed that many ancient and powerful Highborne artifacts may be found among its ruins.[1] Pandaren once gifted a chest to the Highborne, who kept it in Eldarath. 10,000 years later, it was found by Li Li Stormstout.[2] Some of the most powerful mages of the Highborne created runes and tablets citing rules of the arcane and insights into their findings. They would leave these for all to ponder in public places. Multiple such tablets can be found in the Ruins of Eldarath.[3]

History

War of the Ancients

During the War of the Ancients, a battle was fought here between the Kaldorei Resistance and Burning Legion. Tichondrius was fought by Jarod Shadowsong and Huln Highmountain.[4] The Great Sundering caused most of the city to crumble into the Bay of Storms below.

A cluster of ruins clings to the eastern cliffs, long shunned by night elves. Ferocious bands of naga appear to have claimed Eldarath for their own. The powerful warlord Krellian controls the remaining ruins from the Temple of Zin-Malor. The Explorer's League became interested in Eldarath and adventurers of the Alliance were sent here to discover rubbings of the ancient runes.

The presence of Azuregos, the blue dragon, seems to suggest that items of extreme significance—perhaps the fabled Vials of Eternity themselves—can be found in the wilderness near these ruins.[1]

After the Cataclysm, it has turned into a full-blown war zone between its naga inhabitants and the goblins of the Bilgewater Cartel, who want to turn it into beach front property. The area is now led by Lord Kassarus.

Legion

During the Burning Legion's invasion, the ruins fell under the Legion's control, seeking to use it as a staging ground for a new invasion. Some of the naga have been eliminated by the demons. After the Horde disposed of the demons, the naga returned to reclaim and patrol their ruined land once again.[5]

Before the Sundering, Eldarath was one of the most beautiful cities of the night elves. Now in ruins, the naga have reclaimed it, and the powerful warlord Krellian controls them from the shattered remains of Elune's temple. About half of the ruins of the city are deep underwater.[6]
